You know, Wishbone really was brilliant for how it presented literature to kids. It seems insane to try to adapt a classic work of literature and do a modern-day storyline all in one 25-minute episode. But those kid-friendly, well-produced, shockingly high-budget adaptations wouldn't be enough on their own.

While other shows promote reading, Wishbone is trying to get kids invested in literature, and the way to make kids care about old novels is to show them that these stories and characters resonate with normal life. They're relevant to things that happen today. Old books aren't just something that can increase your reading skill or teach you new information--they can matter in your daily life, help you make sense of the world, see that people have been dealing with the same problems across history. You've got to have both storylines to show that, and I don't know how they pulled it off, but I'm kind of in awe that they did.
