Jack, seeing as Abigail is now under FBI protection as well, I have a proposal. She could come stay with my wife and I. We are still in hiding as well, as you know. I don't think it would be wise to stretch FBI resources thin, especially not against Dr. Graham-Lecter.

Alright, so, Jack looks positively delirious. Driving for 12 hours straight will do that, though. Margot told him to lay down while I rushed to grab him some water from the kitchen to get some fluids in him. Applesauce is playing with Winston (or at least, trying, but Winston seems a bit weary of his new surroundings). I won't speak for Abigail, but I am so glad to see her after so long. It feels a little surreal, in all honesty. Homemade pizzas have been sliced and handed out to everyone.

Some may argue that this isn't my place (and/or unprofessional), but I feel it would be better for me (possibly us) to get our feelings out on the table instead of bottling them up.

That being said, while I do hope you have a nice time with Alana (all disrespect aside), I am incredibly jealous...

Good morning, Will!

This is a bit of a loaded question, but I’ll try to unpack it with as much brevity as I can. Under the cut because this may be long.

There are a few reasons why I jumped to move in with them. The first one is just that I’ve been really lonely. I know that you probably don’t understand this as much, as you don’t like being social and enjoy your alone time, but I hate being alone. It makes me feel secluded and paranoid, and it’s not good for my mental health. I’ve always clung to people—even ones that aren’t good for me, like Hannibal—to avoid being alone. Being by myself is genuinely one of the worst feelings in the world to me. I enjoy being independent, but being completely alone while doing that has sucked.

The second reason is that I want to feel safe. It’s been literal years at this point since I’ve had any sense of normalcy or safety. And while, by all means, I’ll still probably worry, it’ll be nice to just live with people in a house that’s decently protected, with a normal day-to-day routine, resting and recovering from what I’ve been through. I know you tried to let me feel normal, way back when everything had first happened with my dad, but Hannibal kind of got in the way of that. And after having my throat slit twice by parental figures? I need some space to heal, not just physically.

Speaking of healing, that’s the third reason. I really want to be able to get better. I’ve been in a really dark place mentally, it’s been very isolating and I’ve felt so awful for so long. I want to be able to get over that, and it’s not going to happen if I’m constantly alone with my thoughts. It’ll just get worse. I appreciate having contact with everybody again, especially you, but I also need in-person contact to maintain my mental health and stability.

The fourth reason is that I just really like Dr. Bloom! She’s nice. :)

Annnd probably the last reason is that I can’t be with you. If I could be with you, I would be. Will, you have no idea how badly I want to run away with you, to see you, to hug you and cry in your arms. But I can’t. And that’s a reality I have no chance of changing, it’s the life you’ve chosen for yourself. I don’t feel angry, or disappointed. I hope you’re happy like this, though I can’t say it didn’t hurt my feelings that you went with Hannibal after everything. But really, I do want you to be happy, so if you’re happier on the run with him, killing people, and without me, then I can live with that.

I’ve said so much here, but I hope it helps you make more sense of this. Have a good day. I’m sorry that you’re jealous—I wish I could do something more to help.

I appreciate you taking the time to answer me, Abigail. I'm sorry you have been so lonely. While I do not have personal experience, I can empathize. I'm sure you will have plenty to keep you busy with Alana and Margot (and their son).

And your need for security (and the feeling of safety) is understandable. I hope you are able to heal and that maybe one day you can stop looking over your shoulder. You deserve to lead a normal life, not one of fearful prey. I'm sorry that Hannibal and I have put you into the position more than once.

What I would give to hug you and to be the one you find security in... I'm sorry I can never be that person.

The person you want me to be doesn't exist.

Sometimes, I wish it did.

I hope your move in goes smoothly, and you settle in quickly.
