My name is Maram, I am 25 years old from Gaza. I dreamed of a peaceful life, spending my life with my husband and my three children... but the war turned this dream into an impossible one 💔😭. I actually think he’d find my cuteness aggression really cute himself tbh like. He’s not used to being on the receiving end of this sort of attention. Of course not, he’d say, he’s ’creepy and weird and just generally rather off-putting’

and he’s certainly never been called ‘cute’ before, let alone by someone with such conviction in their tone whilst saying so! He’s not a ‘cute’ guy, he thinks. He’s a contract killer and moreover just kinda an imposing figure to begin with…

so when he wakes up to me staring at him intently, hands a little shaky with the effort of restraining myself from just squeezing his face and waking him up, he’s a little confused, to say the least.

Of course, I explain to him how I’m feeling bc that is simply the way I operate- I attempt open transparent communication whenever possible (polar opposite to his need for secrecy but we make it work 💗) and he nods slowly in understanding, his eyes still heavy with sleep but he smiles and laughs, his voice a bit more rough than usual, from having just woken up. His eyes flutter shut again, and he’s still smiling as he’s about to drift back into a light sleep.

And then I bite his forearm and he wakes up for real 😭😂

Six months ago, my husband Anas, a kind-hearted man who endured a life of poverty, was killed by a random shell while on his way to work as a taxi driver. Since that tragic day, I’ve been left to carry the unbearable weight of life alone.

I held a diploma in international secretarial studies and was about to start a job to help support my family. But the war shattered not only our home but also my hopes and dreams. We’ve been displaced six times and now live in a tent that offers no shelter from the bitter cold or the ever-looming fear.

My young children face relentless hunger that weakens their fragile bodies and a cold that knows no mercy for their small hearts. Each day, their cries for warmth and food grow louder, and each day, I feel more helpless to provide them with even the basics of life💔😭😭
