I feel like a failure because I’m struggling to become something and I don’t even know what it is.

How to learn language like a child: the guide for pros.
It’s all the rage — learning language like the real OGs: children. Don’t you recall how effortlessly you picked up your native language skills, with only eighteen years of solid practice needed! So if you’ve been proselytised into learning your target language as if you were a newborn child, follow these three simple steps:
1. Have absolutely zero choice but to communicate in that language. That’s right, time to erase your entire English lexicon from your head and live life as an anchorite secluded from all sources of English!
2. Be constantly surrounded by two+ native speakers who will consistently correct you. Why not try and get two foreigners to adopt you, live with them, and force them to correct every one of your mistakes? Works like a charm!
3. Finally, make sure to really hone in your listening skills. All you need to do is get in a few hundreds of thousands of hours of listening practice and hey presto, you’ve got the listening skills of a native!
If you followed these three simple steps, congratulations! You’ve now officially acquired your language like a child.
If these didn’t work out for you, that may be because we’re no longer children who have access to omnipresent sources of correction and listening, whilst also not already possessing a native language. Instead, why not attempt a tried and tested technique — practice reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills. Repeatedly. Every day. Until you eventually progress enough to be on par with natives. Change isn’t easy: it requires consistent, sustained practice.
tl;dr stop telling people to learn language like children. It’s misinformed, erroneous, and quite frankly naïve. thanks.

Marinette Dupain-Cheng stares at herself in the reflection of the elevator doors as she rides up to the top floor. She looks at her shoes and twists one of her feet to admire the craftsmanship of the jewel-encrusted ladybugs on the back of her heel. Her eyes run up, watching the little stones on the bottom of her dress dance in the light. Mesmerized by the shine, she jerks back when the doors open and people file in. She looks away, stepping towards the back of the elevator and exhaling slowly, her hand going up to her chest where her heart rests. Adrenaline is pumping through her veins.
“Hey - you’re supposed to be Ladybug, huh?” A girl younger than her murmurs, pointing to her face where the familiar mask lies.
