For all the trouble we went through to buy the drone, bring it through SG customs...and all of a sudden, it's confiscated by Indon immigrations. And the thing is, I even hid it from view. Eagle eyed. And stupid new law. I have to get a permit all the way from Jakarta and it takes 14-days! Ridiculous!

So much luggage just for a month! We should be pro packers, and really only bring very little things since we are seasoned travelers. Wait, let's correct that, we are not just seasoned travelers, we are seasoned expatriates! Moving through so many continents in so little time!

Blerrghh! How did this happen again?!!! And I have only used this bag once! In fact, this is the reimbursed bag from the damage on my Etihad trip to Europe. Well, what's meant to be is meant to be. Because of this issue, I stayed longer at the airport and decided to just wait for the hubby.

Cloud game strong! Dec 30th, SIN-DPS. I paid $192 for this One-way budget airline flight, which is a lot more than my recent Bali trip on full-services KLM, which i paid only $149/return!

Ideas are the easy part...successful implementation is where the hard work is in.

I came from a place called Singapore where healthcare is a seamless experience: You fall sick, you see a doctor. Immediately. 

Here in Boston, I have to make an appointment, talk to a nurse practitioner first. And I have to pick up my medication in a separate location. If it's something that requires a specialist, an appointment can take months. Once again, in Singapore, I can see a specialist almost immediately, if not on the same day, within the next few days.  And pick up my medication at the same spot. The state of healthcare here in the US needs a do-over. ASAP.

In this presentation, Gerry Greaney and Molly McMahon talks about a design thinking approach in transforming the delivery and experience of healthcare at Mayo Clinic. They noted a positive shift in culture, as the doctors and staff begin to value design research and processes in the delivery of healthcare. What started out as a two-employee internal innovation practice has since grown to over fifty designers and innovators in a few years. According to them, successful implementation depends on engaging diverse stakeholders, collaboration, and open experimentation to build a foundation for implementing new ideas. One of the ways they do this is by holding open design challenges within the community, which can bring forth new ideas and new champion.

I applaud Mayo's bold move, and would encourage their processes to be replicated and transferred to all the hospitals around the US. Maybe they could learn a thing or two from the healthcare system in Singapore (shameless plug).

Jessica brought the audience through a journey- from her playful youth being obsessed with computer games to the present, as a designer, still toying around with unusual concepts and pushing the creative envelope. She sprinkled her talk with various inspirational quotes and hard numbers, arguing what a vital role "play" has in everything we do. Jessica also states that, too much creative freedom, can actually hinder the design process. She counters that creative freedom, by setting constraints, like only working in black and white or with only specific shapes to balance the process.

Amen. Design Gospel from the rising star.

Colin Raney, Associate Partner at IDEO opened up Day 2 of the Speakers Series of HarvardxDesign at Harvard Business School. He specializes in designing and developing new business ventures and growth opportunities. These efforts helped to pioneer a new discipline within IDEO known as Business Design.

I am a huge fan of Jetblue. If I could, I would only fly Singapore Airlines internationally and for domestic flights, Jetblue or Virgin. So it was great to hear Colin use Jetblue as an example to discuss how designing services, systems, and experiences often has implication for designing business models. 

The experience at Jetblue is just seamless. From the moment you are dropped off at the airport, there's the amazing baggage service outside the terminal, to the dedicated terminal area (in New York especially) to the humorous and personal announcements made during boarding. On a Jetblue flight from Miami, people were boarded according to their 'type of pants". I kid you not. Those whore jeans were boarded right after their extra-leg room passengers, followed by bermuda shorts, etc. Unfortunately, I was one of the last to be called up because I was wearing this comfy Juice Couture pajama-pants and the announcer had no idea how to describe them.
