Almost everyone knew Ivy’s story, which was why she had no friends and lucky for her she preferred it that way. Yet, having one person who didn’t know the truth made her feel off. “Uh…” She began as she followed suit. “I sort of in a way have no choice.” She admitted with a shrug. “I’d gotten into some trouble…so it was finish school, or… jail.” She rolled her eyes. “Juvie wasn’t fun.” She admitted. “I was younger than most of the people there so I got jumped a lot… so, looking back at least I can defend myself now.”

“Oh? Sounds like there’s a fun story there.” Tobias grinned as he continued to walk alongside the girl. She looked like the type who didn’t follow the rules, just like him. Shame she wouldn’t be around much longer. No more rule-breaking for her. What a shame. “Promise you’ll share with me sometime? I really do enjoy stories, especially ones that involve breaking the rules.” He pouted briefly before laughing. “Man, wish my life was that eventful. My parents control my life. Won’t let me out of their sight. It really sucks. They want me to follow in their footsteps, but I would rather go down my own path.”

“Oh god!” She threw her hands to her face dramatically, leaving the wide grin on her lips. “Do I really sound like that? N- no… I was not a fan…. however; if I did per say have some spare time and I did read those books… I would really have been team COLDHEAT…. you know? Where Jacob and Edward have a drunken bonding night where they realize Bella was just a huge jerk and they hook up themselves.” She said confidently before bursting out in laughter. “Okay okay but… in all seriousness- are you…. um actually cold? Or is that a myth?” She asked curiously. “I’m studying to become a veterinarian…”

Calvin’s mouth opened closed multiple times as he attempted to formulate a response to her revelation, but when no words came to mind he gave up and stared. “Huh...” He rubbed his arm slightly, feeling just a tiny bit awkward. Thankfully before he had to give a proper response, she moved passed the topic towards a new one. Cold? Was he? He honestly didn’t know as it was something that never came up. Besides, he mostly interacted with other vampires which meant he never had humans touch him. “I’m not sure.” He started, then lifted up his hand to gently touch her cheek before tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “What do you think?”

“I mean… all of it. You know? It’s just so cool. Here I’ve been burrying my head into text books and studying my whole life and amongst us have been vampires… real life vampires… it’s still so insane to me. Like, it’s just so normal but believe it or not I was a huge Van helsing fan and the whole time it’s practically real… I just-” She stopped to take a deep breath. “Sorry… i’m not that intereting.”

“Ah, so you must be one of those infamous fangirls I’ve heard so much about.” Calvin grinned, lightly teasing the girl. “Let me guess... You were Team Edward back during that craze. Though, before you answer, I must warn you. I’m nothing like him.” He continued, laughing as he spoke. When was the last time he laughed this much? “I think you’re interesting. You mentioned textbooks. What are you studying?”

“Hmm.” She licked her lips before popping a piece of minty fresh gum onto her tongue. “I hardly ever go to class.” She stated matter of factly. “I don’t really see the point you know? I still get good grades, my teachers still collect their pensions, and they don’t hafta’ worry about me disruptin’ ya’ know?” She said with a shrug of her shoulders. There was something about him that actually made her talk to him, she couldn’t stand practically the entire student body and yet here she was talking to him more than she’d talk to others in the last four years. “I have history next. I actually have to show today. Got a test. Normally, who gives- right? But here’s to another A test that wont be on the fridge.”

“If you hate school that much then quit?” Tobias thought out loud. “I mean, can’t you just drop out at the age of sixteen? Why bother coming to this hell hole? I mean, I wouldn’t be here if possible, but my damn parents make me come.” He shrugged. “But to each their own.” He added, his head cocking to one side. “Oh good, we have that class together then. Must be my lucky day because I wasn’t quite ready to say goodbye.” He started walking towards the history classroom, figuring she would follow him.

Olivia couldn’t help but curve her lips into a slight smile. How was it that he was able to comfort her so easily? “Don’t worry, i’ll protect you.” She teased, a soft harmonious laugh escaping her lips. “And as for my brothers… I think they too can handle their own.” For a moment the thought of Killian and Grayson face to face made her uneasy but they’d be busy, maybe Killian wouldn’t even notice.

“I don’t know whether to be proud or embarrassed about having such a beautiful protector.” Grayson chuckled, turning to head in the direction of the club. Thankfully, they didn’t have to move far since they were still in her brother’s office. He looked around briefly, making notes of certain things. It wasn’t often that he had the opportunity to look in his opponent's business. He would need to come here later...alone. Opening the office door, Grayson led the blonde towards the dance floor. They both earned some free time.

She took another bite of her apple as he extended out his hand. Who was this guy? Handshakes? Really? She wondered, arching a brow and raising her chin for a moment. “Sup.” She said tossing the apple core behind her, and sucking two of her fingers to take away the stickyness. “Ivy.” She said, still not giving him a handshake. What would people think if she was just giving handshakes, not that she cared what they would think but she herself wasn’t one for formalities. “Are you new?” She asked.

His eyes followed the apple core as it landed on the ground. It would only take a matter of seconds before an army of ants swarmed it in order to take it to their queen. Yet, no one else seemed to care. Humans didn’t pay attention to the small things happening around them. Their lives were too fleeting, forcing them to only focus on the here and now. However, when one has lived as long as Tobias had, you grew to enjoy the little things in life. Once the first ant appeared, Tobias faced the blonde again. Was that really how she spoke? Well, no matter. “Yeah.” He answered, his eyes staying focused on hers. “But it feels like I’ve been here for a while. Only been here a week, yet... I’ve met everyone. Everyone but you that is. Wonder why that is.”

“I bruised your heart? Sir, aren’t you like 16? I don’t mean to be rude but you’re obviously still in high school. Shouldn’t I be talking to your parents about a house for you?” She asked, honestly. “And before you make these threats…” She leaned in, speaking softly. “You’re cute- I’m actually my own boss.”

“You really are stupid,” Tobias complained loudly, not caring whether he was drawing unwanted attention towards them. “Allow me to formally introduce myself.” He leaned closer, a bitter grin forming on his lips. “My name is Tobias Levesque.” If the brunette had at least an ounce of intelligence in her brain, then the name would scare her enough to pay attention. “Now that that’s been taken care of... How about you find that house for me, or I will make it my life mission to make your life your own version of personal hell.”

She blinked a few times, surprised herself that she had gotten it right. “Wow…” She said, a wider grin growing on her face. “That’s actually really cool… what happened to him? Your best friend? He- he around? Is he here?” She asked, looking around for anyone she could guess looks like a vampire. Then again, the male before her didn’t really look like a vampire himself. 

“Cool? Huh...” Calvin replied, taken aback by her response. She was odd. Or at least an odd human. Normally humans did not feel this comfortable around vampires, yet, here they were having a casual conversation about his demise. He figured she would run for the hills, but instead he got a “Cool.” What did that even mean? Maybe she was struggling to find the correct words she needed to express her true thoughts. Or maybe she was just being nice. Feared the possibility of him hurting her if she responded differently. Or... most likely, he was totally overreacting.  “Sometimes he’s around. Comes and goes. We’re still friends though, he actually my only friend to be honest.” Calvin shrugged. Being a vampire was tough. Especially in the relationship department. Hence why he avoided them. “You know... We keep talking about me. I think it’s your turn.”

“Oh…” She looked down at her interlaced hands. She wasn’t sure how to feel but she did feel comfort. She knew something like this probably wouldn’t work. He literally existed solely to kill vampires and she was…an original vampire. However; this was comforting right here and now. “You want to go tonight? Show you what the other side does for fun.”

“Hey, stop that.” Grayson whispered when he noticed her expression. He wished there was more to say, but he was at a complete loss. This entire thing between them was new. Relationships weren’t something he normally pursued. In fact, he avoided them. “Is that a smart idea?” He chuckled, intrigued by the idea. “I would hate to be put in a difficult position of possibly hurting your brothers.”

Why did Killian never mention any hunters to her? Did he even know of any? She figured they would be on the top of any hunters lists. Clearing her throat for no reason, she forced a smile onto her lips. “Nobody can figure him out, he’s Tobias.” She added a soft chuckle. “How’d you meet him?”

“Ah, yes. I should have known how simple that was. Tobias is just Tobias. Makes perfect sense.” Grayson chuckled, linking her hands in his. It was a comforting feeling to just hold her hand. When did he become such a sap? “Oh, I’ve made regular visits to the nightclub. People call the station on that place frequently and I’m the only one brave enough to go.” He shrugged. “Can’t say that I’ve actually shared a conversation with them, but I’ve seen them plenty of times.”

Her hands were quick to brush away anything that had gotten on her. As selfish as it seemed, the most important thing to her was that she hadn’t bled. With the wrong person, blood exposed like that could go terribly wrong for her. She wasn’t always a careful person, but she was always aware. “Your hair?” She breathed out, trying to steady any huffing she had been doing. She couldn’t help but look at his hair, not entirely getting it or if he was serious but she figured she was missing some kind of point. Paranoid, that was a family trait at this point or more like shifter’s trait. Her father’s paranoia was always the worst, it was what caused the distance between the two of them. Even if he had good reason, eventually a crazy person is just that, crazy. It seemed the only person in her life that had a somewhat sane mind like she had was her brother. Either way, she learned to be calculated because of it, from the standoffish facade of an attitude she usually carried, to knowing when say something and when to not. “Why do you have a bat with nails in it?”

“Huh?” Tobias was thrown by the question. He had asked her to provide her name, yet she was asking him questions. How rude. “Oh, this thing? Yeah, it’s my lucky bat. One time I decided to take a walk in the woods and got jumped by this grizzly bear. Or was it a giant? Maybe it was a woman who wasn’t paying attention to where she was going... Funny how I can never remember these things.” He looked around and pulled the bat from his bag. “I fear for my life now, and this is the only thing that can remotely bring me peace. So, can I get that name now?”

“And what if I don’t?” He challenged, although Killian was no longer expecting a real response. He cared about Tobias whether he wanted to believe it or not but showing it would always be a different story. As a human, Killian was the softer brother between himself and Gideon. Part of the reason was because upstaging the eldest Levesque only caused problems in the end so Killian enjoyed busying himself with pointless games that Olivia or Tobias had wanted to play as kids. Their mother going mad and killing them all had hardened him but losing Gideon ruined him entirely. His little brother’s comment had Killian simply looking over at him, unfazed by what he guessed what was meant to be a shot to his ego. “Then take the bucket you consider dinner and go, no reason to waste your time here.”

“You know, why do I even bother visiting you?” Tobias pouted, tossing his bucket of chicken into the crowd. Naturally, it created a mob of angry vampires, but what were they going to do about it? He could kill them all without hesitation and not regret a single moment. But, something told him that Killian would not be very happy about that. Damn, it had been too long since he enjoyed a good massacre. “You and Olivia still treat me like I’m a child. News flash, I’m a grown-ass man, actually I’m ancient. Think I might be getting a few grays.” He blew out air, his cheeks puffing out slightly. “You know what, I’m feeling a little bored. Think I’m going to go and do something that’s probably going to be a huge mistake. But I don’t give a damn.”

Lunch time. The 45 minutes that Ivy actually showed her face in the hallway. Not that she was really hiding all the other periods, but she didn’t care for school enough to roam the halls or go to class. In truth, her upbringing was the reason that she was the way she was and where her head was at most days. Honestly, Ivy kind of always thought she wouldn’t make it to old age anyways. She couldn’t pinpoint why exactly but with an alcoholic mom, and a opioid addict dad she was either genetically inclined to follow their footsteps or just end up in the system on way or another. Usually, she remained in the theater but today she stepped out of her comfort zone. She found herself sitting outside in the quad, her feet on the bench as she sat on the table top. Her eyes came into view with whom she suspected was a new student on account of she hadn’t seen him before but then again, she hardly made it to class anyways. If anything people probably thought her to be the new student. She looked at him a moment longer than most, taking a bite into her apple before looking back out into the distance. She considered leaving school before lunch anyway but she was already halfway there, might as well finished today and possibly skipped out tomorrow. It wasn’t like her parents would answer the office’s phone call anyways. After a moment she couldn’t help but feel eyes on her, she looked up to see the guy still looking in her direction. “What’s up?”

One of Tobias’ favorite things to do was sit in the quad and watch all the students. It brought sweet satisfaction. Watching them wander aimlessly around, beliving their entire world centered around high school. Their pathetic brains unable to see beyond the four years they spent in this terrible prison. What was even more amazing was how easily they flocked to him. They trusted him. Fought to be his friend. Girls, hell even guys, want him to love them. Life was great. There was little Tobias enjoyed more than playing tricks on others. To have that sort of power over others was intoxicating. To kill them. Words could not even come close to that feeling. It didn’t take him long to notice the blonde staring in his direction. She was cute. In an odd sort of way. She would make the most excellent playtoy. “Hi.” The vampire leaned forward, taking in her scent. Yeah, she was definitely his type. She would be fun. It was like Christmas morning and he was a giddy five-year-old who just opened the newest toy. “I don’t think we’ve met. I’m Tobias.”

“Mountains, the sun, glass everywhere… got it.” She played along. “You know what? I actually know just the place! There’s a long yellow road that leads to it, grass everywhere- fully furnished- even comes with a little grey dog and sparkly read shoes. Oz they call it.” She said sarcastically. “Listen, kid. Can you even afford a cardboard box? Let alone a whole house? Where are your parents anyways? Did Scott set you up to prank me? That little- all because I ordered him a thai milk tea instead of a thai iced tea. Jesus… look I am far too busy to have my time wasted.”

“Ouch, I think you might have bruised my heart.” Tobias grinned, in an effort to hide his frustration. How dare she simply accused him of not having the necessary funds to accommodate her time. “Because I’m feeling generous I’ll give you another chance to repair this already fragile relationship and make it up to me.” He paused, looking at her with a raised brow, Almost daring her to turn him down. “So, what’s it going to be? Find me my dream house, or I call your boss and ruin your life.”

“Whores? That isn’t very feminist of you.” He joked, although his expression didn’t seem to match it. Nodding his head as she spoke, he waited till she was done to say anything else. “So keep it from happening.” He said it in a way that made it seem like it was such a simple act. An easy thing to achieve in the most obvious way. With eyes always on the supernatural, some people thought it was better to keep in line. Those people certainly didn’t consist of Killian. If anything, he showed to prove he would always be what he was, without any shame in it. If you were deemed as a monster of the world, then you may as well lean into it, no? “What’s the latest claim? Let’s handle that now.”

“Who said anything about me being a feminist? I think you might be confusing with one of those silly other blondes who follow your every move.” Theo’s words rushed out in a frenzy. Why was he so difficult? Why couldn’t he run a respectable business that did not risk the lives of others? “Well-” She started, frazzled not expecting him to actually be interested. Their typical dance was that she kept him out of trouble, and he pretended to appreciate it. “There’s a woman suing the club.” Her eyes quickly rescanned the notes she had taken even though she already had the words memorized. “Claims she was attacked by one of your clients outside in the alley without consent. This could be a difficult one for me to just pay off. She’s anti-vampire and wants the city to get rid of you and your kind. Happens to be best friends with Judge Sharpe which happens to hold a personal vendetta against you as well. Good thing you pay me well.”

“I mean… if your taste in homes is as bad as your taste in coffee… you should just trust my judgment and let me take the reigns on this one. I’ll collect a few homes and in the end you get the final pic. My services aren’t cheap because I actually know what i’m doing. Havelock is the ‘in’ right now and the market is booming. So, what’s it going to be?”

“So is this the part where I tell you how big of a house I want?” Tobias clapped his hands together and leaned forward towards the realtor. He always had great plans of buying a huge house to share with his siblings, and now was that time. “Has to be open. I’m talking fucking windows everywhere. I want to see the sun even when it’s down. Could I get one of those window door things, you know the entire back wall be glass that opens? Oh, man. Let me tell you. It has to be big. Tons of space and have a massive garage. Mountains. Yeah, I want mountains. Just everything.”

“Mhm…” She knew her brother was hiding something but she figured if she pressed him on it, it would somehow lead into him pressing her. So, she simply let it go. “Uh, nothing really. Work… just working a lot. If anything’s changed its that there is a lot more alcoholics in this small town- sounds like a country song, doesn’t it? ‘Alcoholics in this small town.’“

“Right.” Seth looked at his sister in confusion, was she always this odd? Surely not, or was it because he had never paid her much attention before his imprisonment? Brushing the thought away, Seth crossed his arms and leaned against the frame of the door. “You trying to say something?”
