55: Billie Holiday - Songs for Distingué Lovers

This was played to soothe my sick girls. Billie Holiday was suggested a long time ago by Stuart McArthur. We have quite a few Billie Holiday original LP's so this felt like a non-education however this little one has escaped me up til now... worth a listen. It is very smooth and as with all Billie Holiday, her voice just rolls you around. Wonderful.

54: Miles Davis - Nefertiti

Just because... because because.

We both thought this was excellent. We had some dancing- some dancing on dad's feet, played some xylophone very energetically , did some lounging and some peering out of the windows at the trees and birds. Quite something this album. The title track is excellent and begins the whole album with its unusual construction with the horn providing most of the rhythm for the track and the other instruments falling in around it. Very good record. I have subsequently found out that Miles Davis did not compose any of the tracks, these were composed by Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter.

53: Steve Reich - Music for 18 Musicians

Just because its snowing dark and calm and I think we should hear the melodic pulsing Steve today. Can't remember the last time I listened to a whole album of his.

Stunning. Totally absorbing. We waved around on the floor and spun around through a lot of this. I felt slightly mesmerised by it. I can't remember it doing this to me before.

51: Cameo - Word Up!

What a funky little 80's number this was. The title track is a classic and doesn't disappoint. We both had a little dance around the house to this. The rest felt a little dated but I kind of liked that. It felt like it was from another planet from the music that is produced now with such different production values that it feels remarkably fresh (although still dated) to listen to it. Lempi kind of drifted after a few songs but that is ok.

50: Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left

Suggested by Edwin Rostron who is simultaneously listening many miles away from where we are.

This was perfect dreary saturday afternoon listening- not that the music was dreary, the weather was and this kind of suited it. What a haunting voice, smooth as silk and as Edwin pointed out- this music is as infectious as it is bleak. Lempi didn't quite know about it but I think it did her no harm. She was mainly rolling around the floor.

We liked this. It had a strange sense of rhythm and his voice is amazing.

48: Patti Smith - Horses

Simply Divine. I adore this album in every way. We had a beautiful tea party for the teddy bears which was a great afternoon. Lempi kind of liked the music and had a little sing along to Gloria. I think she will grow to love this album.

47: Captain Beefheart - Safe As Milk

Great album. We had a great dance around and then I think The Captain took us weird... we ended up sliding around on the floor (our lovely parquet floor in the new flat) with Lempi lying on top of me and singing away. We also had a very good jam session with the maracas and xylophone and using the teacups as drums. Good stuff.

Bloomin marvellous. Dancing and singing and rolling around on the floor was enjoyed by both of us. Damned fine record this. Possibly my favourite yet.
