The Charlatans - The Charlatans (1994)

Far too groove and jangle oriented to battle the Britpop superstardom of Oasis, Blur and Pulp, The Charlatans carved their own path with a succession of stellar releases in the 1990s. The self-titled release from 1994 only received a compact disc releases in the US and the double LP version in the UK goes for a pretty penny. A reissue is definitely due.

Rosanne Cash - Interiors (1990)

Alt-country may be attributed in the 1990s to Uncle Tupelo, but plenty of artists and albums paved the way, including Rosanne Cash’s 1990 album Interiors, which was only released on vinyl in the UK and is long overdue for a US reissue.

Le Tigre - This Island (2004)

The last full-length released by Kathleen Hanna’s post Bikini Kill band divided fans and critics, but manages to ride the line between dancy accessibility and jagged guitars licks. The original press is on the pricey side, here’s hoping a reissue is in the works soon.

Van Hunt - Van Hunt (2004)

A neo/retro soul and funk sound in the vein of D’Angelo or Maxwell, sadly this was caught up in the early ‘00s disregard of vinyl releases, so it was only released on compact disc. Hopefully that oversight will be rectified on the 15th anniversary rather than the 20th.

Electronic - Twisted Tenderness (1999)

Next year will mark the 20th anniversary of the third and final collaboration between New Order’s Bernard Sumner and The Smith’s Johnny Marr, known as Electronic. Hopefully, they will finally put out a vinyl version.

Esthero - Breath From Another (1998)

The debut studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Esthero is a mix of mellow bass lines, jazzy trumpets, Spanish guitar and hip-hop lumped in with the trip-hop of Portishead. Though the album did receive a limited vinyl run upon initial release, twenty years later it is hard to come buy and pricey when available. Hopefully a 20th anniversary repress is in the work.

Elefant - Sunlight Makes Me Paranoid (2003)

Another early 2000s band that got lumped in with the likes of Interpol and Franz Ferdinand but didn’t quite get the same attention. Too bad, because this is an above par album that unfortunately only received a compact disc release. Definitely deserving of a vinyl version.

Thanks to a bunch of eagle-eyed folks we awoke to the news that SRCvinyl has scheduled a reissue of Veruca Salt’s sophomore album Eight Arms to Hold You from 1997.

After a long vacation, we’re back with news: Letters to Cleo, who put out the excellent Back To Nebraska EP last year, have finally issued their stellar 1990s output on vinyl - 1993′s Aurora Gory Alice, 1995′s Wholesale Meats And Fish and 1997′s Go! All of these were cd/cassette only back in the 90s, and the band celebrated with a three-night stand, supported by the Blake Babies, at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston a few weeks back. Each album is available individually, as well as in a bundle with a tote.

Mother Love Bone - Mother Love Bone (1992)

Combining the original 1990 album Apple with bonus tracks, this compilation of Mother Love Bone songs is the best starting point for the band and Andrew Wood. Always reliable Music On Vinyl finally issued a 2xLP vinyl version back in 2013, but only in the UK and is no longer in print.

Animal Bag - Animal Bag (1992)

Another interesting suggestion from Eric P: “overlooked, forgotten, ignored… Animal Bag had one solid album.. a really good EP and then poof… gone..They mixed hard rock, roots rock and a hint of southern rock in parts that would have put them in good company next to bands like The Black Crows without being just another blues based band from the south. They have an interesting story as well. Never heard of them? You did if you ever watched the pilot episode of My So Called Life? I for one would pay for a nice reissue with both their album and the Offerings EP.”

Jump, Little Children - Magazine (1998)

Original released only on compact disc, in 2017 the band released a limited vinyl version locally to the North Carolina area on Record Store Day. Good luck find a copy, as it’s rumored to be only a few hundred and no one seems ready to part with their copy. Hopefully the band will make another round available.

Heatmiser - Mic City Sons (1996)

The original vinyl pressing of Heatmiser’s excellent third album on Cavity Search is hard to come by, and while their was a repress in 2011, it was via a less than quality outfit that should be avoided whenever possible. A proper press would be well worth it for this overlooked gem.

The Psyclone Rangers - Feel Nice (1993)

Another suggestion from Eric P: “The Psyclone Rangers at their best were a noisy distorted power pop band with a bit of punk i their sound and pop culture references all over their songs.

over looked, solid and forgotten.

Christie Indecision is one of those pop gems from the 90s people don’t know.”

Feel Nice received a vinyl pressing only in the UK, and it’s not easy to track down.

The Frames (D.C.) - Fitzcarraldo (1995)

Originally not released on vinyl, Music On Vinyl put out a version a few years back in the UK, but that is already out of print. In addition a reissue of the vinyl version, would be nice to get an expanded vinyl and/or compact disc collection that includes various b-sides from the three singles released.
