Nothing But Thieves have been making waves as their single “Tripswitch” is taking off in the states, (and I’ll have to feature that video in the future), but the song and video combo for this one is absolutely solid.

Hot Chip- Dancing in the Dark

Hot Chip has put out some great videos over the years (see “Ready for the Floor” or “One Life Stand”) but this one... with it’s public access style TV mix-ins is great.  The cover ain’t half bad either.

Stone Temple Pilots- “Days of the Week”

As I continue to mourn the death of Scott Weiland, and a musical voice I listened to a LOT in my youth and teen years, I wanted to dig up one of their lesser known songs/videos.  From their 2001 album “Shangri-La Dee Da” this was the lead single, which still showed the STP sound, in a much more power pop way.  It managed to make it to the Top 5 on the Alternative and Rock charts, but now is largely forgotten.

The Crystal Method- “Murder” (feat. Scott Weiland)

Today, I woke up to the sad, but not surprising news that Scott Weiland had passed away last night.  He had been the former lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, and was touring with a new project, Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts.  He was only 48 years old.

STP had MANY, MANY great songs along their career (I’ll probably post some throughout the upcoming weeks), but I wanted to posted a song that Scott lent his voice to back in the early 2000′s.  The Crystal Method released this song “Murder” with Scott on vocals.  The song is catchy as hell, and the video... well, it’s a murderous sex doll.  How awesome is that? Rest In Peace, Scott.

Gin Blossoms- “Follow You Down”

I often find myself going through random 90′s kicks, digging through artist catalogs (much like Toad the Wet Sprocket recently).  Right now, I’m going through the Gin Blossoms, and remembered the lead single from their second album “Congratulations, I’m Sorry” which spawned just this single... then the rest of the album fell flat, sadly.

Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness- “High Dive”

I’m a little sad that this song only got the “live show montage” music video treatment, as it’s a great song.  Although if you haven’t seen Andrew/Jack’s Mannequin/Something Corporate live... you should.

Toad The Wet Sprocket- “Fly From Heaven”

Every once in a while, I fall into a listening marathon of an older band/music.  And I got on a Toad The Wet Sprocket kick.  (You’ll remember them from songs like “All I Want”, “Something’s Always Wrong” and “Good Intentions.”  This was a much lesser known single from them that still carries their typical sound/harmonies/overall kick-assedness.

X Ambassadors- “Unsteady”

Hailing from my college town, Ithaca, NY, X Ambassadors exploded onto the scene with that song from the Jeep commercial, which went on to spend 11 weeks at #1 on the Alt Chart, and 2 weeks at #1 at Hot AC.  Impressive for a band right out of the gate.  The music video and the parallels are perfect for this one, their latest, called “Unsteady”

Twenty One Pilots- “Stressed Out”

Since I’ve last regularly updated this thing, Twenty One Pilots released (what I think) the album of the year 2015 with “Blurryface” and are now getting noticed at pop radio.  Fittingly so, it’s their song that is essentially a Millennial’s anthem that is taking off.

Trip Shakespeare- “Bachelorette”

Recognize that voice?  You might.  It’s Dan Wilson, former lead singer of Semisonic. (You remember “Closing Time.”  Of course you do.) Well, before forming Semisonic, he was the frontman of this band, Trip Shakespeare.  They were signed, but never made a real splash on the Alternative scene, other than being a cult favorite.  This song came from their final album, 1991′s “Lulu”.

Night Riots- “Back To Your Love”

What??? This blog is active again????  Yeah.  Why not... it’s been a long while, but there’s a shitload of good music out there.  So I’ll, once again, try to be somewhat regular about updating it.

So let’s come back with the band Night Riots.  They’ve made a small splash at Alternative with their two EPs, “Young Lore” and most recently “Howl,” which spawned the Top 30 hit “Contagious.”

I found this song of theirs browsing YouTube and instantly fell in love.  The simplistic video and back and forth between the lead singer and the mannequin/girl is great... plus keep an eye in the background for quick glimpses of the mannequin when they’re focusing on the singer.

Foo Fighters- "Walk"

Sorry for lack of updates recently.  I was hobbled by a broken foot.  So with nothing else to do but work... I did.  For a month I worked a shitload of overtime and slept.  That was basically it.  But the boot and crutches are gone today, and I literally feel like I'm learning to walk again.  So this song seemed fitting.
