isolation
Ego Maniac was released 18 Oct 2019,
I wrote a few words how the record makes me feel.
The songs are filled with such a triumphant fragility, breaking down boundaries to create something so majestically powerful that even my ears are sobbing. Alex has a magical ability to express the inarticulable space in between emotional responses, morphing buried pain into hope, creating a blissful melancholy and a comforting life jacket.
I’m enamored by the tender and self effacing lyrics. Literally hanging on the next word to understand the narrative of this searing record a little more. Each play holds the listener a little tighter and wraps them in a glacial beauty of lyrics. These songs convey a homage to the self-reliant will power and indomitable strength Alex has.
I love how simple Alex has kept the production. Its allowed an immediacy and intimacy that feels like I’m listening to Alex perform in the room as I put on my headphones. I’m so greatful to experience and treasure another album sooner than we deserved. Thank you Alex for this compelling, adventurous and dynamic record of sonic intrigue. I can’t wait to listen a 1000 more times and discover all the intricacies that are hidden within the songs.
My favourite line so far is “the road that I’m on will have to be enough” it really moved me and reminded me of the Wabi-Sabi proverb.

Paranoia is killing me, how long have I really got, till my best is not enough. Today I am living for the little victories

Follow You, a song by Alex Vargas on Spotify
Follow You, released today, features on Alex Vargas’s upcoming album; Cohere (Mar 31st 2017). This tender and affecting piece carries such a strong emotional tug that throws out the genre manual and leaves every cell, body and soul craving a second, third and fourth listen. Alex Vargas’s emotional depth and uninhibited artistry allows the listener to hear the song as it plays out like a film in their mind that evokes haunting images on its own. Personally, I interpret the song as feeling lost after making some bad decisions “I know the price of what I've done” but you have that one person you can confide in who will always rescue you and set you straight even if you might take them for granted: “You try your best to speak to me But I reply so cowardly.” I may be completely wrong with the interpretation but the music’s immense range and expressiveness allow you to sit in the songs and paint them with your own colors. Alex Vargas always manages to convey the truth in a way you feel like it was the words you were always searching for, simple, concise but utterly piercing and connecting. Every lyric makes you rethink and revaluate your actions. Follow You is so raw, passionate and confidently therapeutic. Vargas always manages to find new ways to shape emotions that everyone can relate to through his tough, honest, uncompromising beauty of songwriting. If Follow You is anything to go by, Cohere will be an enlightening experience.
Deep in Thought - by: Ian Hainsworth
Organised chaos treated like freedom
I still spell your name in the city lights, I still hear your joy in my dreams It's only when I wake from the place I escape, That I start to sew back the seams, And though I’m not broken, I will never be the same, and although I'm healing, I will always hold a piece of you behind my eyes
There are colours inside of him too beautiful to name
