"Since the beginning of time, the sƛpúlmx (Cowlitz old name) People have lived and thrived on the abundance of the land. Fishing the rivers and streams, hunting the prairies and mountains, and picking berries near Lawetlat’la. The sƛpúlmx People came from below, from below the shadows of Volcanoes, where stúqʷpéˑsaʔ (Thunderbird) would summon fire and renewal. This is a small story about a moment in time, a story of change and rebirth." Read more of "LITTLE CROW AND THE BEAR PT. I | A CONTEMPORARY COWLITZ STORY" here: http://www.gatheringthestories.org/2018/05/17/little-crow-and-the-bear-pt-i-a-contemporary-cowlitz-story/ This is a story that came to me in a dream awhile ago. I decided to write it out and share. I am currently going to school at the Northwest Indian College, Nisqually campus, studying for my MFA (Masters of Fine Arts). I am in a class called “Language of the Ancestors”, I wrote this as a paper using the Cowlitz language as much as possible. I currently do not know how to speak these words, but I am learning, and one day hope to share this story orally, pronunciation and all. I dreamt you. frail and singing with strained tongue. Effervescent scent of none. I would love, just one more dance.

Dirt Kvlt.
We drink our fair-trade coffee while the homeless shelter from the rain in the outdoor gear we cast off. Children fear ape-men in the woods and the serial killers who wear their beast skins on the inside. We quote Chief Seattle while nuclear waste leaks into tribal waters. Between mountains and sea, we watch as snowline and sea levels rise, and atheism offers no solace in blissful ignorance. But have another espresso from whatever Starbucks alternative you patronize, recycle, & hope it’s enough.
Well said.. my sentiments exactly! Thank you.

In the mists, the veils are thin.
“He found himself wondering at times, especially in the autumn, about the wild lands, and strange visions of mountains that he had never seen came into his dreams.” ― J.R.R. Tolkien
I forgot to wish the internet Happy Equinox, so here it is, belated and wet. Today was nice, we got some of our fire wood in, and stocked up the furnaces. I am grateful to see the leaves change, the rains come, and to breathe the Autumnal decay. Grateful to have health. Be well internet.

|| Photo from @themaniniexperience || At 3 a.m. on October 25, 1906, the 275 foot long Peter Iredale was struggling toward the mouth of the Columbia River on its way to Portland. But its 25 crew and 2 stowaways weren’t destined to make it there. Heavy mists obscured the beacons of the light houses and the Columbia River light ship. It ran aground. Then heavy rain squalls and a fresh westerly gale pushed it ashore, where it lies to this day (text from oregonphotos.com) || Image selected by @ericmuhr || Join us in exploring Oregon, wherever you are, and tag your finds to #Oregonexplored || #PeterIredale #OregonCoast #Oregon || via Instagram http://ift.tt/24C33SX
