We often hear about the appalling things people do in the name of religion and community. It certainly boils our blood to see innocent people getting slaughtered merely because the so-called protectors of the religion find it justified. . Like many others, I too condemn people who have sworn in the name of God to make earth a deadly place to live. While I detest them - I often remind my conscience that no particular religion or community is to be blamed for this entire fiasco we're experiencing in every corner of the world today. . I was very proud of being an intellectual, a person who sees everything in positive light and doesn't believe in discriminating any caste, creed or sect - until the day I had an embarrassing encounter with myself. . It was like any ordinary day. My husband and I were enjoying the evening stroll within the walls of a lake centered garden - which happens to be among the major tourist attractions in the city. . Being a public holiday, we could spot a number of people - who like me, were there to escape the stressed lifestyle and enjoy some quality time with their loved ones. . I felt at peace and was completely enjoying the silence which dwelled within despite so much of hubbub. . Just then a young woman approached my husband and asked for his mobile as she wanted to make an urgent call. She had a pleasing smile and an innocent look. But my fondness for her disappeared when I saw her fully - she was wearing a burqa. For a second, the intellectual person in me turned to an intolerant and inhuman evil. Before I could reprimand my husband, he had already handed over his phone to her. . She talked for a minute, gave the phone back and thanked my husband saying, "Shukriya". . I was very restless about the phone call she made. However, my husband was calm and I noticed no sign of anxiety on his face. I couldn't bear his silence anymore and started shouting at him. I rebuked him for being so irresponsible and allowing a stranger to use his phone that too when he knew she was a Muslim. . Cont... 🔽🔽
