He just stares, not bothering to give a response before walking away.

The Hunter and the Scout
forgottenangelic:
As Angel listened to Cai’s explanation, a small, mischievous grin spread across her tanned features. “Oh, so I get it now.” She said in a teasing tone. “You’re the Queen’s lap dog.” A laugh erupted from her chest as she said so, and she raised her eyebrows at the poor Scout.
“Tell me, how did you get such a cushy job? You’ve got to be close to the Queen. Were you friends before? Do you like her?” The blonde wiggled her eyebrows a few times for emphasis, seeing if she could get the other Alv to blush.
Angel knew that perhaps she was pushing a few more buttons than she probably should, but what could she do? It was in her nature to be a troublemaker. It ran in her blood!
He rolled his eyes, mild irritation reflecting on his face as a frown pulled down at his lips. Apparently he wasn’t in the mood to provide her an amusing reaction, quite a shame really. It would have been a sceptical to see the Alv with a red face.

He says simply, crimson eyes shifting away his attention to the worn out path they were traversing. It certainly would be interesting once they got to town, considering the mouth Angel seemed to have.

//I FRICKEN LEFT THIS BLOG FOR HOW MANY MONTHS???? I DONT KNOW BUT IT’S A LOT AND I FEEL SO BAD
Lockwood took a moment to read what Cai had wrote carefully, grin plastered onto his face all the while. Looking up from the paper, he said, “It’s a pleasure to meet you as well, Cai. Don’t worry about not telling me before, it’s not a big deal.”
Lockwood handed back the notebook and pencil. He felt a little bad for the guy. Obviously he’d met some mean people before meeting him. Lockwood was now determined to be a good host for him (although it came pretty naturally to him).
“It’s no trouble for me! This won’t be the first time I picked someone off the street and welcomed them into my home. Before, it was a girl named Angel. Blonde, short, a tad bit forgetful, but I could hardly blame her there. Amnesiac, she was. We still keep in touch actually.”
Lockwood rambled on as they walked, only trying to make a little small talk now that their language barrier had been crossed. The gears in his mind hadn’t quite made the connection between this stranger and Angel yet.
Cai blinked as he processed what was said. Angel...?
Wait she had been here?! When? Why? Well, that last question wasn’t really one he needed to ask considering that she probably didn’t even know where she was but it was still surprising for the Alv.
He jotted down his response.
Angel? I believe you took care of one of my friends. I met her awhile back, she didn’t have any memories to speak of. Of course we both got lost on different occasions hah.

A raindrop plopped down on the kitten nose, startling her. She shook her head and looked up. She couldn’t really see the sky through the trees, but she could tell the sky was darkening. It wasn’t long before there were more raindrops. Dorothy let a mewl of protest against the cold rain, and tried to find shelter within her owner’s jacket once more.
Rekker had looked up as well. As soon as the rain had started picking up, he reached back and flipped his hood over his head. Dorothy snuggled close to his neck to take cover under the hood as well. “Mm..” he hummed in response to Cai’s statement.
Rekker turned his gaze back to the other one in front of him. The rain wasn’t too heavy now, but it was likely to suddenly start a downpour, as it often did. Distant thunder could also be heard. “You wouldn’t happen to have an umbrella on you, would you? If not, you’re probably going to get drenched here soon.”
> Uɴғᴏʀᴛᴜɴᴀᴛᴇʟʏ, I ᴅᴏ ɴᴏᴛ.
He let out a small sigh, what an unlucky day huh? First he had gotten lost in a forest he didn’t recognize, then he was going to get rained on. He could only hope that the rain wouldn’t get to bad, but the echoing of thunder seemed to support the opposite.
He glanced at the other, pausing for a moment as if debating his next actions. He could ask them for directions, but what reaction would he get out of it? Would he simply be brushed off or would he actually get some help?
There was only one way to find out.

Lockwood understood immediately what the stranger was trying to tell him. “You’re mute.” He observed. That definitely explained a lot. Lucky for him, the stranger didn’t seem too offended. With Lockwood’s normal luck he might have gotten punched in the face. Funny how often that happened, despite his winning personality.
“That makes sense. I don’t know sign language, unfortunately.” Lockwood admitted, looking at Cai apologetically. “My name is Anthony Lockwood. I’d like to have something to call you… oh! I’ve got it!.” He exclaimed. Digging around in some recess of his long coat he produced a small notebook and pencil.
“Could you use this to communicate?”
His ears twitch slightly as he’s offered the notebook and pencil, giving Lockwood a grateful look before jotting something down.
My name is Cai, it’s very nice to meet you. Sorry that I didn’t point out that I couldn’t speak before hand, I was being a tad cautious considering I’ve never been around here before. Not many people take to kindly to mutes I find. Regardless though, thank you for being so generous and helping me. It means a lot.
He showed the other the slip of paper, thankful that he could at least communicate this way. It felt more comforting than using his power, even if it seemed impractical.

Rekker didn’t answer right away, instead choosing to aid his animal companion in her escape from his hoodie.
The kitten wiggled her way out of Rekker’s jacket and up onto the angel’s shoulder. She was a fluffy little thing. That, coupled with her little body and big eyes, only made her that much cuter. At least to Rekker. He reached up to scratch under her chin, earning a happy purr. It was obvious she was his baby.
It was also quite certain the angel was rather embarrassed by this situation. He fluffed his feathers, opening his wings once more, but not so much as the first time. It was more so to at least salvage some of his original reputation.
“Her name is Dorothy,” he replied, still petting the kitten. She would paw at his hand when he attempted to pull away. She was quite spoiled.
Cai nodded, watching the two with a relaxed attitude. He still knew that he was in a dangerous situation, but it was clear that he didn’t want there to be more tension than needed. He wasn’t looking for a fight, and now it seemed that the two were calm enough for that not to happen.
Well, perhaps. One could never be sure after all, a situation could turn calm into deadly in mere seconds.
Cai was about to say something in response when a drop of rain fell on his nose, making his ears twitch slightly. He looked up, crimson gaze staring into the sky as the rain seemed to pick up.

Angel was still bitter about the dress, but she made her way to the center of the room anyway, her cheeks and ears stained pink from embarrassment. “Yeah, yeah. I have to learn how to dance, I get that, but why do I have to wear this dress? Why can’t I just learn in my uniform like you?” She finally reached his side, refusing to look at him. “I’m half expecting a hoard of guards with image stones to pop out of the furniture.”
With a sigh, Angel’s face darkened one more shade and she took Cai’s hand in hers. “I guess… but don’t get mad if I’m no good at it, alright? I’ve never learned how to do this.”
He wasn’t aware of why she was forced into a dress, though he had a sinking suspicion that the queen may have had a hand in it...

He didn’t sound too sure of that reasoning to be honest, he was just guessing at this point. Though regardless, that was besides the point.
He pulled her close, resting one hand on her waist while still holding her other. He seemed to be used to this, and didn’t pay much mind to her flushed face.

He didn’t seem to be caught off guard with her question, face remaining it’s normally calm and collected expression. Though, he was still nervous and on edge, instinct pulling at his stomach. As she got closer his unease only increased, this encounter surely was going to be a test of his discipline.

“Hehe, things like this are normally my fault dearie~” She said. “Who else could cause such wonderful chaos! It’s what I do. Walk in, talk to a few people, and before you know it, the whole town is in ruins.”
She tapped her finger on her chin. “While I’m thinking about it, why don’t you tell me about this lovely little world, hm? This is my first stop you see. I’m still fairly ignorant of this place and it’s people.
He had to be cautious with this conversation, he couldn’t go revealing too much to her. It looked like her goal was just to cause chaos and destruction, so he needed to make sure he didn’t give her ways to do so. He couldn’t reveal their weaknesses.
He shifted slightly, eyes staring at her calmly. It was getting increasingly hard to look straight at her, as his unease slowly grew more and more as the seconds went by. He didn’t know how much longer he could hold out without cracking his facade, but it wasn’t like he had any other option.

“Wonderful!” Lockwood said, flashing one of his charming grins at the stranger. Gesturing with a wave of his arm, he said, “Just down this way, won’t take long at all.” And it couldn’t come any sooner. Ghost lamps and lavender would keep most of the Visitors at bay, but you could never be too cautious.
“I’d ask you name, but you don’t seem like the talkative type.” Lockwood said, trying his best to make a little conversation and maybe even get this stranger to say something. Unless… the stranger was mute. That would be awkward. Hopefully this stranger has a little sense of humor.
Cai smiled in amusement, eyes calm and understanding while he matched his pace with the other. He seemed to relax quite a bit, but there was still the problem with conversation. How does one mention that they can’t speak without a piece of paper?
He thought about it for a moment before pointing to his neck and shaking his head, hoping the message of ‘i can’t speak’ would come across with out issue. There was always the option of using his power, but he didn’t want to startle the stranger or scare him off. He kind of needed help at this very moment, and didn’t want to lose that...
The Hunter and the Scout
Angel slowed down with Cai, peering into his hand to spot the sparkling gems she’d seen so often. She tried to put everything he said to memory. Most of it was math, which was unfortunate for Angel, but all in all, it wasn’t hard to understand.
“Yeah, okay, I think I get it.” She said, nodding. “But… I think you’re still going to have to help me if we end up buying something. My memory is still a little spotty… plus, that’s a lot of math. I’m not very good with numbers.” Did she even know how to read? She hoped so, or else she’d look even more foolish than she already did.
“So you work for the queen, right? You’re like, a scout thing. What do you do, anyway? You don’t have to worry about telling me top secret stuff, I promise I won’t tell anyone. Not that there’s anyone to tell, honestly. I’m just curious.”

He began to put the gems away, calmly keeping his eyes on the road ahead of them. They would be arriving in town soon, though they still had a bit of time to discuss more personal information.
Not that what he said could be heard by others, it was just Angel that could be overheard.

Luckily for him she was a fair, strong leader. The things she wanted done weren’t outrageously impossible and never served to boost her ego. It was always for the betterment of Aelham and it’s people, which Cai respected greatly.
