Skyward

Skyward by Brandon Sanderson My rating: 4 of 5 stars It seemed as if the coward's daughter would always live underneath her father's shadow and choices. She just wanted to be a pilot like her dad, she wanted to claim the stars. Sanderson seems to have a knack when it comes to how he writes based on the audience. This story was geared towards young adults and he did a good job of keeping it easy to read while keeping it interesting. Spensa, the main character, was defensive and eager to prove herself. She also wanted to clear her father's name, she wanted the truth. She was someone you rooted for but also rolled your eyes at. She was immature and spewed silly threatening phrases to keep everyone attacking her off balanced. As the story progressed so did Spensa. This was truly welcome, she became less one dimensional and more rounded. The array of other characters worked well, Cobb was probably my favorite amongst them. The book was put together well, end was well thought-out and setup the future of the overall story's arc. I'll make sure to pick the next book in the series once it's out. Go Set a Watchman

Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee My rating: 4 of 5 stars Childe Roland to the Dark Tower came. I found this story thought provoking and funny at times. Knowing this is a first draft of To Kill a Mockingbird made me wonder if it would be any good. I found the conversations between Jean Louise, Hank, Atticus, Jack, and Alexandria entertaining. Jean Louise's conversations with Jack and her confrontations with Alexandria where highlights. I found Jean Louise's reunion with Calpurnia to be heartbreaking. The social context grew heavy as the book progressed. The denouement was complex and satisfying, I hope to put a copy of this on my permanent shelf. Review - The Son

The Son by Jo Nesbø My rating: 3 of 5 stars I general I liked this story. Though I only gave it three stars because it felt disorganized and rushed times, the last third specifically. Maybe the translation was bad but again the last third lost steam which in turn lost me. The story didn't flow like Harry Hole one, maybe that bothered me too. Anyway, I felt some of the pieces in the story were those of revenge, the fan scene especially. However I felt like the mole reveal was somewhat telegraphed.
