𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠/𝐬: none

when the batter first comes to, in a zone of nothing where no one lives, he thinks he feels warm.

something settles in his chest, deep in his body, thrumming within his soul. it doesn’t speak, and the batter knows that it cannot, but the batter knows who it is regardless – his guide, your name heavy in his head.

already, the batter knows that this force can be trusted. even when his body moves before he can make it, taking steps he isn’t taking and doing things he wouldn’t, the batter knows that everything will be fine.

a cat appears. he calls himself the judge, full of smiles and magniloquence. he greets them both, the batter and his guide, and deems them a specter and its equally ectoplasmic friend. the batter can feel humor suddenly, even though he was nothing but apathetic beforehand, and thinks that you finds it funny.

he doesn’t say anything to the judge, and doesn’t correct him either. the batter decides that he likes it, that feeling of your emotions flowing through him; he also decides that only he gets to know, and experience, this. something only for him.

the judge asks for his guide’s name, and the batter is compelled to answer. he speaks his soul’s (for what else could you be, but his soul?) name, it falling from his lips like a prayer. they cannot speak, the batter says. but they can hear and see everything.

the words come out before the batter realizes, but he finds comfort in it rather than an omen. an omniscient being has taken root within the batter, serving as his guide and his warmth, his companion in his quest of purification. what can he be, if not honored?

watanabe no tsuna had only one role, and he wanted to play it well.

all he had to do was kill ー cut down any monsters or demons that came your way, fight against the other master-servant duos and keep you safe, ensure your victory.

"i'll slay any oni i see," he'd said to you, one hand resting on his sword and the other pressed to his chest. "even if it isn't, i'll try slaying it anyway"

i want to keep you safe.

when you're someone like watanabe tsuna, someone torn by a loss of someone so dear so long ago by now and so deadset on your self-sworn role of cutting down any demon you see, you don't notice things like growing and conflicting feelings.

maybe tsuna should've noticed it sooner, with all the hints that he'd planted for himself ー how he'd so willingly swing his sword for you, point it towards monster or man; how every thought of his was filled with you, your breath, your smell, the way you move, are you injured? have you eaten?

he chalked it up to simple worry: a servant worrying for their master who, in a thing such as a holy grail war, is the only thing keeping them corperal and in the current world.

besides, he thought then, even if he did have such feelings (he didn't), what are the odds that you'd reciprocate it?

kind, beautiful you. stubborn and headstrong, you knew when to be kind and when to draw the line. you treated him with respect and kindness that you'd treat any other respectable human being (the gentle way you touched his arm, the firm way you held his calloused hands, the downright loving way you'd cup his face and scold him for being too reckless in a fight purely for your sake were probably just you being.. affectionate. you could've acted this way towards anyone else. you could've treated someone else this way, well before him

he ignores the the jab in his chest when he thinks of that, the idea of you loving someone else this way)

as soon as the war was over, chances are you'd no longer have need for him ー you'd have the holy grail, the omnipotent wish granter. you'd, quite literally, have everything you ever wanted and more just in your hands.

what other use would you have for him?

that said, there's a chance for a second part to this in the future. who knows.

him being surprsingly willing to bow to your whims, though he will make a big show of it, whining and complaining that it's a waste of his time, yet would not hesitate to jump to your aid should it be needed

him being very physical with you, private and public. a hand on your waist, an arm around your shoulders, his fingers interlocked with your own. they serve to remind him that youre here, to remind you that he loves you despite the way he acts sometimes, and to show others that gilgamesh is your lover, and he is yours

him being protective. you're the beloved of a powerful king! do you know how many people would try to take advantage of you? how many would try to hurt you? (he says this, but he also just genuinely cares, and he knows he'll never be able to live with himself if you ever got hurt on his watch, god forbid die)

he will always, always be very willing and excited to help you! you need someone to help carry your bag? he's on it! you need some food but don't have the money? don't worry, nishinoya's got you covered!

if anyone bothers you, it's better not to tell nishinoya, because he will do his best to absolutely deck them, and would probably try and bring tanaka along too

unless you explicitly tell him that you're uncomfortable with it, he will tackle you and give you hugs daily. he brightens up like a sunny day when he sees you.

contrary to popular belief, he won't confess to you so early (even kiyoko was a bit surprised). he likes you!! he really, really does. he likes you in a way that is more than the admiration he had for kiyoko. he thinks you deserve a better, proper confession than him just belting out that he loves likes you

tanaka and suga are probably gonna hype him up a lot when nishinoya finally does try to confess. if you look a little closer around you, you might find the two hiding in the bushes or behind a pole or something

nishinoya doesn't really care if he ever ends up confessing to you or not, really. he loves you, he truly does, and just being with you can be enough for him
