Questions for the admin(s) behind this blog: given how long ago the show aired its finale, how do you remain so devoted to this pairing, show & blog? One of my main fandoms ended and I'm worried my dedication is waning. I don't want to! :*(

While we've now wrapped up this blog, I think it's clear that we've been very fortunate in that this is truly a Once and Future Fandom; whenever and however people discover Merlin, it seems to spark something, and whether that's for life or a few years or whatever amount of time - and whether you've got a lot or a little or no creative energy to put into it at any given moment - the fandom will always be there when you need it, and that's pretty awesome. Thanks for following, and for this lovely ask! <3

Announcement After eleven and a half years and over 2500 editions, mxa_news is ceasing publication. This will be our last edition. The first edition was posted by mythicalkiss on May 23, 2010, and many dedicated people have served as editors over the years. It has been a pleasure to be a part of this community, and especially to work with the current editors, malu_3 and matchboximpala, who have been generous with their time, smart and reliable. Thank you! While the decision to end the newsletter was prompted in part by a failure to find new moderators, it was also prompted by changes in the fandom. New venues and technologies have moved much of the action away from LiveJournal. Fortunately, the love for Merlin and Arthur is still going strong after all these years, and new fanworks are being created at an impressive rate! It’s tusks like daggers, the length of a man’s forearm, and razor sharp. With wide eyes he meets Arthur’s, which are staring back at him with poorly concealed worry. Unfortunately, the old friend doesn't recognize him back. Once that he becomes the recalcitrant keeper of his manservant’s magic, the king has the opportunity to form his own opinion about it. Well, if you ask Arthur, Merlin might be the most powerful warlock to ever walk the earth, but his magic doesn’t feel all that scary. It is almost cuddly. And affectionate. And protective, bordering on clingy. On reflection, it almost seems as if Merlin’s magic is fond of him. The king vows to ask Merlin for an explanation as soon as soon as he has managed to bring his friend back from wherever he has disappeared to, and defeat the mysterious dark force plotting against Camelot. I‘m Merlin.“ And then he stuck out his hand, oblivious to the way Arthur‘s mouth dropped open Or, during the Great Purge, Balinor can convince Uther not to kill all dragons. Instead, Uther magically imprisons him and the remaining dragons at the Dragon's Keep. Now, almost twenty years later, prince Arthur regualary comes to check on him. Things change, when he brings a certain manservant with him. Had the meeting ended when he expected it to, he would've been fine, but it had run over by two hours and it didn't seem anywhere close to wrapping up. His throat was so sore he didn't dare swallow, and he tried not to speak other than when it was absolutely necessary. He could feel Merlin's worried gaze burning a hole in the side of his skull but ignored it, keeping his attention on the council before him. The potion Gaius brought him had helped for the first bit of the meeting but its effects had worn off some time ago. Arthur Pendragon is a corporate solicitor working on contracts for his father’s firm. He spends every second of his free time with Merlin. It’s never enough. When Merlin breaks down over the stress of his changing life, Arthur offers to take them on a holiday to see one of the set locations—a castle. Uther will be furious. Arthur doesn’t care. Whilst on holiday, Arthur realises that without the stress of work or school he has time to question why Merlin’s smile makes him feel like he’s stepped off of a cliff. Merlin is in agony being alone with Arthur for so long after compartmentalising their relationship for so long. They tiptoe around each other until they can’t anymore. They are just starting to get the hang of it, Merlin finds out about a magical object that has been discovered by some historian... Should they find out what it is? He could have done a million things to prevent his death before that moment. Unfortunately, a father's miscalculated bargain can still come back to haunt you—Arthur is twenty-one, has a kingdom to rule, and apparently, a magically binding marriage contract with the Prince of Escetir. Prince Merlin, who has magic, a dragon, great dislike for Arthur, and still no intention to back out of the contract. The worst part is, to a degree, Arthur understands—as a sorcerer, he wouldn't trust Uther Pendragon's son either. So he simply has to convince Merlin that he can be trusted, and the contract can be broken while they secure peace between Camelot and Escetir. It's a good plan. Right up until forces conspire against both their kingdoms, more secrets come to light, and Arthur starts coughing up flowers. Merlin, however, sees it for the first time from the eyes of a maid, a knight, a royal, a stable boy, a barkeeper etc. Surprisingly enough, Gwaine doesn’t even ask Merlin to prank Arthur. He just makes him listen. And that’s how bitter and depressed season 5 Merlin gets healed from his paranoia and self depreciation. But Merlin absolutely insisted on finding out what was going on and then on accompanying Arthur. The defiance and loyalty Merlin shows over and over again cause a warm, comforting feeling in Arthur's stomach which is quickly chased away by a dry throat and a tingling sensation running up and down his spine whenever he thinks about his manservant for too long. Arthur gets up at some point and lights up a candle. He takes a look in the mirror and can't find anything that has changed in his appearance while his emotions are a total mess.
