A doll youtuber I watch has made a video about the history of Polly Pocket, and she's describing the plots of the dvd specials, one of which features an elderly woman named Ms. Throckmorton, and my reaction was
Apparently my stepdad and I are fucking psychically linked because ?? every single time he makes chili for dinner I get a migraine. Without fail. And it became like a ha ha running joke because it happened so many times but now I’m living 3 hours away from my parents and I just texted my mom and
btw i love when dubcon is used in fiction as a way to explore characters. i love when characters don’t understand how to “properly” ask for consent because they have never had their consent respected in their lives. i love when traumatized adult characters make potentially unwise choices about what to do with their bodies because they have the autonomy to do so. i love when characters make choices that i personally wouldn’t make, but i can totally understand how they got there. i love when characters have complex, fucked up, unhealthy dynamics, but still care about each other and want to do better. i love when writers trust audience members to read between the lines instead of spoon feeding them moral lessons. i love when characters are allowed to actually fuck up and have mistakes to learn from!
5 years ago today I started posting Ride On (10/10 ch.; 39k words).
It was my second Fandom Trumps Hate fic for Anyawen, whose prompt was precise enough to inspire me and fluid enough to let me to head straight for the land of Self-Indulgently Including Everything I Ever Wanted in BBC Sherlock Plus 20 Of My Favorite Songs So There.
@anyawen, most creative and generous of humans, also beta’ed the story as it was emerging from my fevered brain, or rather, from the space between our two fevered brains.
Podfixx started making the [Podfic] Ride On around Ch. 5, or perhaps had recorded 5 chapters before mentioning it to me, aware that I’d want a @podfixx treatment on ANYTHING I ever wrote including my least successful job application letter ever. I haven’t read Ride On since I posted it, but have lost count of the times I’ve listened to the podfic, which is infinitely better.
In Praise of "Ride On" by @k2ntwo is a paean to the fic and to the podfic, and periodically I clutch it to my heart.
The Cover for Ride On by @bluebellofbakerstreet makes me squee every time I see it and I bet I'm not alone; @johix's art takes us to Caherdaniel in the midst of a very public reunion, in Ch. 4.
The comments, oh my dear gods the comments. Readers and listeners and tumblrinas have spoiled me rotten with the comments and bookmarks on Ride On. It's the story (of mine) readers have kudos'd most; their interaction with it has often restored my flagging spirits in the truly grim timeline we’re inhabiting.
I wrote two epilogues to Ride On (chapters 9 and 10), and a final epilogue (Ch. 11), set in a retirementlock decade, is in the drafts folder. Let’s just say that no one will be surprised at where it’s set.
TLDR: no fic is an island; it takes a fandom; no fic of mine is ever finished; and I don’t have words to thank those who’ve loved this story. Also: thanks for reblogging!
Daisuga so oblivious to the fact that they're a married couple that one day they're out with the rest of the team and for some reason they're short a chair, and Daichi says, "Oh, never mind, Suga can sit on my lap!" And Suga says, "Yeah, no problem!" and all their friends' eyes twitches cause they're like oh come on
This will sound full delulu but you have to admit that the behind -the-scenes story of the two actors who put danmei C-dramas on the map sounds like it was pulled straight out of a BL fantasy novel, too. Like, come on!
Two guys who met once at a variety show, one took a shine to the other but it never went beyond that. Later, they find each other as leads for a small, experimental production of A GAY STORY, something that the government already hates; the budget is two paperclips and a dream, and the author of the story is a mysterious recluse.
The two guys have a rocky start but soon after, their chemistry is SO strong on and off-camera that even some of the cast and crew believe they might actually have feelings for each other; and not only that, but they seem to have been BORN to play those characters. There's even the funny side-plot of one of them having a big fat crush on the other's *character*, so now Yibo is technically jealous of himself.
And then, then the show becomes an international success, so much so it opens the door for an entire genre. But BAM! Out of nowhere, the actor who played the misunderstood, ostracized, villainized MC finds himself misunderstood, ostracized, and villainized in a very similar way. He even made the same decision of exiling himself from the jianghu/the entertainment industry and did his darnedest to protect the other man's reputation by staying away. The other man was visibly unhappy about it but complied for both their wellbeings.
From a BL fantasy point of view it's like they were Wangxian reincarnated. Doomed to be pulled away by their obligations life after life. But Wangxian had the good ending while Yizhan got the bad one. (And I will die pissed about it bc it was the result of pure bigotry, dare I say some misogyny, and herd mentality).
I can even picture the long-ass graphic novel title: "I fell in love with my co-star in a BL drama and now my character's curse is messing up my real life"
unbelievable.
