Well, the My Favorite Monster project was fun, but it turns out I have neither the time nor the inclination to maintain a second Tumblr. I'm not going to kill it, but this will probably be the last post. Thanks for those who participated and I hope everyone enjoyed this menagerie of monsters.
And as a special treat, we're going to close with a monster from one of my very favorite people, Stephanie Perkins, author of Anna and the French Kiss, and Lola and the Boy Next Door.

My favorite cryptid of all is the Loch Ness Monster's less famous relative—the Mokèlé-mbèmbé ("one who stops the flow of rivers") of the Congo River basin. It's been described in many ways, but frequently as a massive, long-necked, grey-brown animal that lives in the deepest areas of lakes and river bends. Reports suggest that it's between fifteen and thirty-five feet long. Some say it may be an elephant, rhinoceros, hippopotamus, or monitor lizard. Others—far more intriguingly—describe it as a sauropod.

Of course, like all cryptids, there is no scientific evidence of the Mokèlé-mbèmbé. And it's exceedingly doubtful that there's dinosaur hiding in the heart of Africa. But . . . that will never stop me from hoping it's there.

When Steph sent me this post, I couldn't help but think of that 80's movie with Sean Young, Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend. Anyone else remember that one? Such awesome animatronics.
