Just a power girl living in an eagles world. Also quite fond of lions, giants, suns and the crows. Will talk about AFLW with occasional forays into WAFL and SANFL. I respect Victorian teams, the swans and dockers but I ain't spending any time on them. Xennial been on tumblr a very long time, figured I'd make a separate place to talk footy. Might end up a cricket blog during summer.
This morning I shirked my responsibilities in favour of writing footy fic, something Iāve never written before. Itās under a cut because itās long and Iām still kinda embarrassed to be writing rpf. Not yaoi technically but could be read as such.
Apologies to real life ppl.

Stay, a look inside the Georgiades/Butters household this week
It was the walking wounded as the pear limped back into Alberton after their defeat by the Saints. Lachie had been cleared of any internal injuries after a heavy knock to the ribs, Jack was having calf trouble again. Both would be assessed later in the week. And to top it all off, it looked like the Hornet was getting a week for rough conduct. They just couldnāt catch a break!
Mitch, under concussion protocols, was home alone while Zak was in hospital waiting for surgery on his ankle.
The house was too quiet. Zak was loud and messy, he never cleaned up after himself. But he cooked a mean breakfast. And Mitch had gotten used to having him around. Truth be told, heāll miss him when he goes.
Mitch could do with a mean breakfast right now. Heād make himself a smoothie but his head hurt like hell from the concussion. The noise of the nutri bullet would only make it worse.
Cocopops it was then. The team dietician would tell him off about it. He added a chopped up banana. That would keep her happy.
Playing a video game wasnāt a great idea with a sore head. Watching telly was out too.
He sat out on the balcony and let the Adelaide sunshine wash over him. It was a warm day. If he closed his eyes he could almost pretend he was back home in Perth.
His phone bleeped. Another text from his mum checking that he was alright. Heād reply later.
His phone bleeped again. āBoredā, from Zak. Mitch smiled fondly, his housemate would be on the good painkillers.
His thoughts moved to the hot topic of Zakās contract. Heād stopped buying The Advertiser. Heād stopped looking at the socials, every time he opened an app there was some speculation about āthe AFLās hottest free agentā. Zak was still being so secretive about it. Mitch had tried talking to him.
āMy dad played for the bulldogsā, heād said and Zak had just raised an eyebrow at him in response.
āIt was kinda fun playing against each other,ā heād said in February, after the State of Origin. āGuess weāll have to get used to itā¦ā Again, no response.
āSame,ā Mitch replied to Zakās text and went back inside, took two Panadol (after gaining the club doctorās approval, of course) and went back to bed. Hopefully his head would feel better when he got up again.
***
Mitch woke up to the sound of someone banging about in the kitchen, and the smell of bacon. He didnāt know how long heād been asleep. His head still felt fuzzy and the drool had crusted on his pillow beneath him. Must have been hours.
He stumbled out to find Zak hobbling about on crutches, surgery done, and the kitchen looking like a bomb had hit it.
āMorning, sunshine!ā Zak chirped cheerily as he distributed scrambled eggs, thick-cut bacon, buttered mushrooms and fried tomatoes onto two plates.
Mitch was about to suggest a bit more protein to keep their dietician off their backs when Zak produced another pot from the stove top and added baked beans to their breakfast. Which was good for the protein but not so great for Mitchās nose, Zak could fart like nothing Mitch had ever experienced in his life.
āThanks,ā Mitch said and opened the fridge to pour out two glasses of orange juice.
They sat at the breakfast counter in comfortable silence as they ate.
It was cosy.
Why did it have to end?
āI was thinking of getting a cat,ā Zak mused, breaking the silence.
Was this Zak's way of telling Mitch he was going to Geelong?
āThereāll be plenty of room for a cat to roam on your farm,ā Mitch replied grumpily. Why couldnāt Zak just tell him his plans?
āWhat farm?ā
āYour farm in Geelong!ā
āI donāt have a farm in Geelong,ā Zak looked genuinely confused. āWhat are you on about?ā
āCat!ā Mitch grouched, gesturing wildly. āGeelong! Youāre going to Geelong, just say it! I canāt take this cryptic bullshit anymore!ā
His head hurt again.
Zak put down his fork. āIām not going to Geelong, you wanker! Iām staying here at Port and I was hoping my landlord would agree to letting me get a cat.ā
āLandlord?ā Mitch blinked. Oooh right. He was Zakās landlord, technically.
āSo can I?ā Zak asked excitedly, tapping his uninjured foot. He did this sometimes. It was kinda cute if Mitch was being honest. āGet a cat?ā
Mitch laughed. āYouāll have to pay a pet bond.ā
āNo problem,ā Zak mock saluted.
āAnd Iām upping your rent.ā
āFine,ā Zak grumbled, picking up his fork to continue with his breakfast.
Suddenly Mitchās head didnāt feel as sore as before.
He finished his breakfast and had a shower. Heād clean up the kitchen later, it was only fair, Zak had made breakfast. He took a short walk to the deli, the one that sold The West Australian. He had to keep up on his Eagles news, he might end up playing for them if he moved back home. One day.
But not yet. The Power were battered and bruised at the moment. They were likely to get smashed by top of the ladder Dockers this week, even if they did have the home ground advantage. They didnāt even have a captain, currently.
Dockers vs Swans (as a supporter of neither team, what the hell was that??)
Magpies vs North (a very close, exciting game!)
Saints vs Port (injuries georg is an outlier and should not have been counted!! š¤)
Giants vs Cats (Oh wow!! š±)
Blues vs Hawks (thereās always someone in the Auskick parent chat asking if the session will be cancelled due to the rain and the response is always: no!! itās a winter sport!!)
Crows vs Suns (very boring to watch)
Bulldogs vs Eagles (š. Eagles played well, I thought, but 16 behinds donāt win games)
Demons vs Tigers (didnāt watch. Inevitable result)
Lions vs Bombers. (Props to Essendon for lifting their game in the last quarter)
8/9 which is fine because I like the giants.
Shout out to Collingwood, North Melbourne, Port Adelaide, Hawthorn, Adelaide, Western Bulldogs, Richmond and Brisbane for wearing an indigenous guernsey to celebrate NAIDOC Week! (Is there some kind of rule about this? How come only some teams did it?)
36yo Adelaide Crows veteran, Taylor āTexā Walker, kicked 5.4 against Gold Coast Suns last night. He has now kicked 699 goals since his AFL debut in 2009.
Will the Crows rest him next week against the Sydney Swans at the SCG so he can kick his 700th goal in front of a home crowd in round 20, or is he vital to the Crows game plan against second of the ladder?
