@my-sheath
shirou emiya
Two ships floated on the ocean.
One ship had three hundred people. The other had two hundred people. There were five hundred crew members and passengers in total, as well as Emiya Kiritsugu. For the sake of argument, these five hundred and one are set up as the last survivors of the human race.
Now, Emiya Kiritsugu shall take charge of this role-play, and address the following propositions.
Critically-large holes have opened up in the bilges of both ships at the same time. Only Kiritsugu possesses the skill to repair the ships. In the time it takes to repair one ship, the other will sink. Now then, which ship will you fix?
"...The one with three hundred aboard, of course."
After you make that decision, the two hundred aboard the other ship capture you and make this demand. "Fix this ship first". Now then, what will you do?
"I..."
Before he could speak his reply, the Calico sub-machine gun appeared in Kiritsugu's hand.
Flames savagely spouted from its muzzle, as though the machine could act automatically; Kiritsugu watched over it, dumbfounded.
A single bullet spat out perforated four people, and in an instant, all two hundred people were massacred.
- Correct. That is what's expected from Emiya Kiritsugu.
Kiritsugu watched in a daze as the ship with a mountain of stacked corpses sunk. He got the feeling that every one of the corpses scattered on the deck had faces that he recognized.
Now then, the surviving three hundred people abandon the damaged ship, split onto two new ships, and continue their voyage. This time, one ship has two hundred people, the other has one hundred people. And yet once again, holes open up in the bilges of both ships at the same time.
"Hold it..."
The one hundred aboard the smaller ship abduct you, and coerce you to fix this ship first. Now then, what will you do?
"But... that's..."
With the flash of a naked sword, a bomb burst, and one hundred people disappeared into watery graves. That was the way of Emiya Kiritsugu. As according to what he in the past had built up, he had accomplished the slaughter.
- Correct.
"That's... that's ridiculous!"
What had been correct about this?
Two hundred people survived. Three hundred people died for them - that was the complete opposite of the scales' balance needle.
No, the calculation was not incorrect. You certainly chose the path to save the many and sacrifice the few. Now then, on to the next quest.
Trace, on.

Swords from nails are cute: for how-to reference, here’s a video.
And here are some more ex-nails.
This looks like something Terry would have given the Nac mac Feegle. (NB, must glow blue in the presence of lawyers…)
If you want something bigger, there are plenty of photos of handsome knives made from old US railroad spikes…
This one is so well-finished that it looks incomplete without a proper grip; of course a grip would conceal its origin. YMMV. Swings and roundabouts..
Not just knives…
There are even swords (with extra metal added, of course).
There’s an attractive Middle Earth Elvish look to these.
Man that first one is like swords for mice
Damn, I can now make my own swords
@lycaanroc
I feel like those metal handled swords would hurt the users hands
You wrap them.
@mojave-red
I would literally die for Shirou Emiya.
Oh, wait. Already did. Then, I am happy I did and would do it again
Saber has appeared in so many different forms in spin-offs over the past 10 years, she's become a sort of poster girl for TYPE-MOON. From your point of view, Urobuchi, how do you view Saber?
Uro: Honestly, Saber doesn't look much like a heroine to me. I can still see traces of the male version of Saber that appeared in the early version of Fate (*7). Because of that mental image, Saber's relationship with Shirou doesn't seem like a realistic relationship between a male and a female, but a complicated relationship with a boy who became a girl.
Nasu: Typical Urobuchi... I really can't pull the wool over your eyes... I intended to take that to the grave with me, but I guess this 10-year anniversary is a good place to talk about it. Just like Urobuchi-san said, it's difficult to call the relationship between Shirou and Saber a relationship between a man and a woman. Saber has fought for a long time as the ruler of Britain, but then turned into a girl all of a sudden and fell in love with Shirou. It's pretty ridiculous when you think about it. But I really wanted to push it towards that sort of boy-meets-girl story. So as a last resort, I had Shirou continually say things to her like "But you're a girl," and "Girls aren't supposed to fight," in order to remind the users that "she is really a girl." It's like the author's actually the one trying to convince Saber that she's a girl... I feel like I could have written it a lot better now, but that was the best I could do at the time.
Uro: It isn't a relationship fueled by instinct like the relationship between a man and a woman, but a romance of logic between two people who need each other from the heart. I think the Saber route could have been told as a story through the ancient Greek views on love. That's what makes Saber's story so refreshing, and why she's become such a popular character. On the other hand, I think the true heroine of Fate/stay night is Rin. In the Rin route, an equal relationship with a woman who's become stronger than men is depicted. Rin and Shirou mend each other's weaknesses with their own unique strengths, and I think it makes for a very nice relationship.
Nasu: It's true that Rin is different from Saber. Rin is written as a completely different gender. She also has a sort of pride in the fact that she's a beautiful girl. With a girl like that by his side, even an unsociable person like Shirou loses his presence of mind.
Uro: There's yet another different type of love depicted in the Sakura route. It really expresses the dark sides that all women have, but how men can accept that and love women regardless. Something akin to the "dignity of men" comes across.
Nasu: "Romance" is something where a couple blindly pursue each other's ideals. "Love," on the other hand, is something where two people accept each other, including the painful reality that comes with it. There are no ideals to be found there. It's just about coming to terms with reality. They don't even have time to dream... but you can't just keep pushing harsh realities over the hopes and dreams of young people. Let's talk about something more fun!
Anyways. I need to be studying for my final tomorrow, and here I am, getting emotional about that DUMB KID...
Stop troubling those around you, you silly little one...
You need to be alive and strong in order to help other people, Shirou--
You’ll be even further from your dream if you don’t protect yourself--
Artoria wasn’t born as a human, which is cruel in its own way, and I will talk about another time.
But, Shirou was. He was warped through events to believe he was a tool for the whole world’s happiness and well-being, and was consensual about such a thing, even though he shouldn’t have been. I sincerely believe he should not continue with such a life... I believe this so much for him. I believe this not because he is “wrong” or something disrespectful such as that, but because he simply does not have the power to save the entire world. He needs to save people around him, not blindly to any living creature, because otherwise, he will self-destruct and not be able to do anything. He needs to rule the world around him, as Rin said, not the whole world.
At the end of Fate route, he continues with an even more glorious image in his mind of living for the world because of his experience with Saber, who, until the v very end, lived as a king and not as his partner. (In fact, if we believe that Arthur will return in the future to save Briton again, even after Realta Nua’s ending, she will have to leave him again!!) In Unlimited Blade Works, he meets and becomes close with Rin Tohsaka, the most powerful woman in his life and a perfect partner to keep him cemented on Earth like he should be. But he still didn’t completely figured out how that he needs to save his world. I know Rin will protect him, but I... I want him to find that for himself.
In Heaven’s Feel... I feel like he finally learns what he needs to do as a human being. That’s the route I see as the truly happiest ending for Shirou. He is written as “sacrificing” his dream, in a way, but he ISN’T. He is finally learning how to make his dream come true the best way he can. It’s so important to me that he still dreams of a saved world, but recognizes it as an ideal that he can’t afford to fight for. Otherwise, he would die, he would die, and he wouldn’t have accomplished anything except his own death. Why is saving yourself seen as less than saving the world? It should never be. How can you do anything if you are dead?
Shirou Emiya and Artoria Pendragon had what I would call a “summer romance” in Fate route. It was fast, it was tumultuous, violent... It didn’t last because of a force they couldn’t control pulling them apart. Its love wasn’t passionate and fiery, but it was deep and affecting, unlike the summer romance trope. But they still changed the life of the other in a very deep way.
I don’t believe they are good for each other in the long run - Artoria lives a life that is so different from Shirou’s and was simply not made to live in his time with him. It is the same for him. It’s not just their age, even though so many people like to blindly blame it (which doesn’t 100% work for Fate route when Artoria is so obviously emotionally immature, and they’re both adults, but when she grows up, it will matter).
If they were allowed to spend a long time together in present day, I have a feeling they would end the romantic relationship. This is because Artoria and Shirou’s goals in modern life are simply too different (Artoria is a ghost and Shirou needs to get a job!!!!). But, I can’t possibly communicate how much that relationship is “destiny”.
As for the new Realta Nua scene in Avalon... I wonder so much about that scene. I felt like, in Fate route, Saber got a happy ending, but Shirou didn’t. I felt like he never got resolution and is almost completely set on a path like Archer’s. I worry for him a lot at the end of the route. Seeing the Realta Nua scene made me even more worried for him. Did he have to journey through hell to get to that scene, like I feared? Was it really worth it? Artoria and Shirou... At this point, what kind of person is Shirou?
I always preferred Heaven’s Feel as Shirou’s resolution because I believe that is the best thing for him as a person. So, when Realta Nua came around, I...
