The biggest wall you have to climb is the one you build in your mind: Never let your mind talk you out of your dreams, trick you into giving up. Never let your mind become the greatest obstacle to success. To get your mind on the right track, the rest will follow.
— Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart
To the person reading this, I hope tonight treats you gently, and that tomorrow looks brighter.
i hate when girls feel dumb for trying to see the best in people and then end up hurt or disappointed like no!! it’s those people that were dumb for misleading you. they took advantage of your kindness and generosity, and they’ll rot for it
Repeat this everyday you are not in the wrong for seeing the good in the world
You can only reblog this on the 3st of January
the 3st huh?
A Growing List of Banned Tags
This is my second go at making this blog. The first time, I got shadowbanned immediately for writing a post with these words on it, so I’m going to have to link to a google doc instead.
You can find my current list HERE
If something is not on the list that does NOT mean it isn’t blocked. It just means I haven’t checked/added it if it is.
If you’d like to contribute tags you’ve found, please send it via an ask or submission so I can double check and add it to the list.
EDIT: Right now many of these are only banned on IOS, but that really doesn’t make it better
4. If the car pulls up to you run in the opposite direction.
5. Walk with your keys in your hands and keep a key between each finger
6. If they put you in the trunk kick out the headlights
7. If you get lost find a woman with a child. Never ask a man for help (this one was drilled)
That scream fire piece of advice is literally life saving
8. Watch your shadows and reflections, especially if someone is walking behind you. A split second notice is better than none and will help you.
Yes this last one really saves lives y'all I do it all the time
girls have to learn to view the world like international intelligence agents just to be safe walking down the street. smh.
guys pls pls pls reblog and girls pls pls pls be safe out there. terrifying and so sad that we have to worry about this on a daily basis
(I’m an enby, but, frankly, this is helpful for anyone.)
- always tell someone where youre at and an approx time when youll be back
Add text replacement words in your phone if possible. Something short and memorable that you can send quickly to people in moments of emergencies.
E.g.
I f ing hate that we need to reblog this, people suck, but this will save lives.
DO NOT SCROLL PAST
Being female fucking sucks but yes this shit is important for everyone
Also, do not walk close to walls. It will be easier for someone so walk past you and push you against it or corner you.
If your gut is telling you to cross the street or change your path, do it. Don’t risk it. Your body knows.
If you can, buy a large umbrella and walk holding it. Studies say that predators are less likely to attempt an attack on someone that could fight back. Keys around your knuckles is fine but you’ll need to get very close to do damage. Umbrellas are more precise.
Avoid wearing headphones if you are alone on an empty street. Look aware.
Again: Stay. Away. From. Walls.
Entering an uber alone? Call your father (or anyone you trust) and say “hey dad! Yep, I’m almost there, I’m sending you the route.” outloud. Then proceed to send them the route so they can follow the uber drive. This will most likely intimidate the predator.
If you see someone in an uncomfortable or possibly dangerous situation, walk up to them and say “Betty, oh my god, I haven’t seen you in so long!”. If she gets slightly confused, you can whisper and let her know you’re trying to help and that she should follow along. Walk together to another station or away from where you are. The man will most likely not follow. I have done this one 2 times and can be very helpful.
If you are unsure she needs help, you can pass her a note saying something like “hey, I noticed this man beside you is making you uncomfortable. If you’d like help, fake a sneeze right now and I will come up to you and pretend we are friends.” This is a long note, but its an example. Be discrete. If she follows along, proceed with the previous tip. This is helpful when you’re in a crowded train and you notice harassment.
Help your sisters. Trust them. Trust yourself. Be safe.
If you ever feel unsafe or need help, anyone is welcome to run upto me and ask me for help! I’ll go all mama bear and keep you safe!!!

I made this google doc covering 14 different self defense tips and tricks. it was made on January 15th, 2020 so it was before I decided I’d come back to tumblr jhjshdbjfh.
this is so fcking important
AFAB nonbinary here, y’all please reblog, I’ve had this drilled into me as a kid and this will definitely help someone
also:
i was always told that the elbow is the sharpest point in your body, so use your elbows!!
to quote dwight schrute: “the eyes are the groin of the head”
im pretty sure that the nose is really sensitive so try to hit that. in a self defense class, they said to hold your hand like you’re carrying a plate (flat, palm up) and push upwards, bringing the bottom of your palm at the nose.
it doesn’t matter their gender, getting hit in the groin will always hurt like fuck.
if someone holds you from behind, shove yoir elbow in their gut and then punch them i the nose when they relase you
NEVER tuck in your thumb if you’re making a fist. that way if you punch someone you’ll break your thumb. make a fist like this and punch with the part marked red.
you can knock someone out by punching them into the chin. the nose is also very sensitive and can be easily broken.
as someone said above, STAY AWAY FROM WALLS!
the knee and the elbow are the strongest parts of the body. and they are nicely angled for kicking somebody.
STAY SAFE EVERYONE, AND SHARE THIS!
And if you’re going to a new place like say university… ALWAYS WALK WITH A MALE FRIEND AT NIGHT ALWAYS WALK WITH A MALE FRIEND AT NIGHT!!! This has literally saved some of my friends lives as they’ve gone to university and I expect to be the same in a few months!
MALE FRIEND BOYFRIEND ALWAYS WALK WITH A MALE YOU TRUST!!!
…Hell, even do this in places you’re familiar with. And make sure the male friend is someone you can ACTUALLY trust, not the nice guy you met a week ago.
Anyway yes, the bar for LGBT+ rep is still far too low and we deserve much better. But assuming queerbait every time a potential same-gender couple don’t immediately kiss in an ongoing story is only going to kill any variety and creativity in the LGBT+ stories we do get.
I understand being skeptical, I really do, but the idea that nothing except for a kiss can possibly count as explicitly romantic is counterproductive and just such a limiting mindset to have. It ignores every facet of romantic relationships except for the physical.
It’s the same reason I dislike the argument that “any rep which can be denied by homophobes isn’t good enough”… because homophobes will still shit on the rep even if they can’t deny its existence. Why should I rely on bigots who hate me to validate my identity or representation?
Also...
*grabs megaphone*
QUEERBAITING is when people with direct creative control choose to only imply LGBT+ rep without ever making it explicit.
QUEER CODING is when creators want to provide explicit LGBT+ rep but are censored by laws or execs higher up, etc.
Also
*borrows your megaphone because i do not have one*
QUEER REP DOES NOT HAVE TO INVOLVE ROMANCE TO BE REP
saying it does not only ignores trans people and aspecs, it acts like a character such as B99's Rosa "doesn't count" as bi just for not being in a relationship
QUEER REP DOES NOT HAVE
TO INVOLVE ROMANCE TO BE
REP
Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
I wish all Indigenous people a safe and peaceful National Day of Mourning.
I'm extending my love and thoughts to all Native Americans this Thanksgiving.
This is a day that's absolutely saturated with cultural and generational trauma for us. It's okay to feel anger and grief and confusion today, and it's okay to express that. It doesn't matter that we weren't around to see the events transpire. We're still feeling the trauma in our bones. You aren't being dramatic or overreactive, and you are not alone.
____
To non-natives, please support us by giving us a space and platform to feel and discuss the pain that is deeply engrained in us surrounding this holiday.
//this post is okay for non-natives to reblog, but we do not want your justification of why you celebrate thanksgiving. i guarantee we've heard it all before, and it doesn't make it less painful, it just feels dismissive and invalidating.//
"spam liking will get you blocked" spam liking will get you a kiss on the mouth
My dear lgbt+ kids,
If something makes you feel better, it's not a waste of time.
Let's say you enjoy writing long posts that explain why you think of your favorite fictional character as bisexual and nonbinary - if that makes you happy, please do it!
Ignore anyone who tries to tell you "In ten years, you will look back at this and cringe". You exist right here and right now. You deserve to feel excited and happy about stuff right here and right now.
Ignore "Our community should focus on real issues", too. Your happiness and emotional health IS a real issue you need to invest time in.
Life can be bitter enough. Don’t give up anything that makes it sweeter for you.
With all my love,
Your Tumblr Dad
donate to the Wampanoag people!
“The Wampanoag Nation once included all of Southeastern Massachusetts and Eastern Rhode Island, encompassing over 67 distinct tribal communities…With the European settlers came much adversity for our tribe - disease that virtually wiped out whole villages, systems of government that bore little resemblance to our tribal practices and values, missionaries intent on converting us to Christianity, and private models of land use and ownership that conflicted with our tribe’s own communal practices and values. The vast majority of these tribal communities were killed in battles initiated by colonists to secure land. Today, only six visible tribal communities remain.” (Wampanoag history)

This is getting on my fucking nerves, so I’m just going to say it here:
Adults who need high levels of support in daily living are not children.
“Mental age” is a concept rooted in eugenics, and it doesn’t actually exist.
No one should be robbed of agency or dignity because of their need for support. Oh, also, while we’re at it (since disability rights activism that doesn’t tackle age-related oppression is bullshit), kids deserve to be treated with respect too. Shouldn’t be a controversial statement, but it is.
Most people neglect to mention this, but if “being treated like a child” equates to “being robbed of agency and dignity,” there’s something fundamentally wrong with the way we treat children.
Honestly something that bothers me more than most things is having my compassion mistaken for naivety.
I know that another fish might eat this bullfrog right after I spend months rehabilitating it.
I know that turning a beetle back onto its legs won’t save it from falling over again when I walk away.
I know that there is no cosmic reward waiting for my soul based on how many worms I pick off a hot sidewalk to put into the mud, or how many times I’ve helped a a raccoon climb out of a too-deep trashcan.
I know things suffer, and things struggle, and things die uselessly all day long. I’m young and idealistic, but I’m not literally a child. I would never judge another person for walking by an injured bird, for ignoring a worm, or for not really caring about the fate of a frog in a pond full of, y’know, plenty of other frogs.
There is nothing wrong with that.
But I cannot cannot cannot look at something struggling and ignore it if I may have the power to help.
There is so much bad stuff in this world so far beyond my control, that I take comfort in the smallest, most thankless tasks. It’s a relief to say “I can help you in this moment,” even though they don’t understand.
I don’t need a devil’s advocate to tell me another fish probably ate that frog when I let it go, or that the raccoon probably ended up trapped in another dumpster the next night.
I know!!!! I know!!!!!!! But today I had the power to help! So I did! And it made me happy!
So just leave me alone alright thank u!!!!
THIS.
I heard a story about this, a parable I guess.
There was a big storm and a ton of starfish were washed onto the beach, stranded much further up than they could get back and beginning to bake in the post-storm sunshine. A little girl was walking down the beach, picking up starfish and throwing them back into the sea. Some guy comes up and asks her what she’s doing. “Saving the starfish,” she says.
He looks around at the huge beach and the hundreds of starfish, and says “You can’t possibly save them all. I’m afraid you’re not gonna make much of a difference.”
She throws another starfish back into the ocean, and replies “It made a difference to that one.”
Yeah, I mean, we know we can’t change all the things. But have you ever noticed how much better life is when you’re around people who change things when they can?
Kindness is a choice. Even if it’s small, it’s worth it.
This is what I’m talking about, when I say that kindness and compassion do not equate with ignorance, stupidity, or naivety. Being cynical does not make someone more intelligent or more worldly.
Kindness is not weakness.
Kindness is brave. Especially when you also know that your kindness might not be returned, may even be met with anger or cruelty. It’s reaching out with an open hand, knowing that it’s just as likely to be bitten as it is to be held.
Kindness is hard. If you can’t find it in yourself to be kind, then fine. But don’t make it more difficult for those that can.
