I've been in Hawaii for 3 weeks now and the humidity, at first welcomed but now I find it stifling. But there's so much good ramen here, what can one hungry local boy do?

The first time my niece's mom made shoyu hotdog, my niece asked why are they eating this kind of food... it's because it wasn't cut like octopus hotdogs. And with anise -- that's the secret ingredient.

I always dreamed of the day that I can ride my bike to work every day… but I never dreamed it would be in Paradise, wearing shorts, tshirt and slippers.

There's Meadow Gold, then there's Korean gold... I moved back to Hawaii two weeks ago and it was TIME TO MAKE KIMCHI.

I've been helping my bro fix up his place a bit, doing some yard work, making a compost pile, and laying down some new laminate flooring.  There’s few things more rewarding than a little sweat equity.  Demolition is more fun, but renovation is more satisfying.

My sabbatical time off is nearing its end and I'll miss being a house husband at my brother's place, especially cooking for my bro and my niece.  It's been getting cold so today I made a big pot of stew.  And fried some ground turkey with onions to freeze for some quick future meals so that my niece doesn't starve after I'm gone.

First meal in Frankfurt... yeah sounds healthy for German eating, but my buddy Larry and I have this friendly wager on who will be in better shape in one month's time for his wedding.  It's simple, our suits don't fit.

And if anyone is curious, there's no such thing as a friendly wager... I'm going all out.

BTK - Just some dishes I threw together for dinner with my bro… mainly to get rid of some extra basil, chicken, and way too much kimchi.  It’s like Iron Chef but the secret ingredient is everything in the fridge.

I finally got a new phone two days ago, replacing my tired, old iPhone 3GS. The Samsung Galaxy S4 is a beautiful phone, but there's enough bells and whistles to equip ten trains.  I've spent quite a few hours tinkering with it, learning the new settings, customizing it, downloading new apps.  All for something that in two days I haven't even made or received a call, and the only text was from my brother asking me why the phone upgrade was taking so long.  Somebody please call me, my phone is feeling lonely.

This song has been playing in my head over and over... It's the type of song that you can feel even without understanding the lyrics, but then when you do it's that much more meaningful. My friend Naoki posted it on FB years ago and like he said, "You can understand what 'setsunai（せつない)' means by this song."
