I can't believe we live in a world where there's an AI company unironically called "Palantir," and it isn't a parody. It's a real thing. I remember seeing a picture of an advertisement on here and thinking, "This HAS to be a joke. This is too on-the-nose to be real. They wouldn't honestly name an AI company Palantir, after the Seeing Stones from Lord of the Rings that are supposed to offer knowledge, but famously also might be feeding you misinformation from evil sources because 'we do not know who else may be watching.'" But then here I am listening to the BBC News discussing why the CEO of Palantir just published a Manifesto that sounds like it was written by a supervillain.
The whole photo is gold but I especially like that the automated feeder is taped to the fucking floor.
One of the most annoying genres of people on the internet are people who act like they believe science is one single monolithic thing. Like, you'll see an article saying something like "scientists studying the movement of tectonic plates", and then in the comments there'll be several smug people saying "smh why are scientists doing this instead of finding a cure for cancer", like. Why would a geologist be doing that.
With of course, its natural concequence being "if a scientist says it, it must be true" and sure why shouldn't you trust what an astronomer said about cancer. The disease.

Having a "stupider people have done this" attitude about the things you want to do can open so many doors

The lexical divergences didn't make the mutual intelligibility any service.
Polish: I'm looking for kids at the shop.
Czech: I'm fucking kids in the basement
I ugly-laugh/cackled in a short burst when I saw this.
A) because language is INSANE; B) because OH MY GOD how unfortunate;
and C) that you knew my language nerd self would appreciate this (truly awful) situation.
To be honest? The more I learn about Slavic Languages the more I am convinced that at least HALF the strife in the region is because someone misinterpreted what someone else was saying. Or if something was a QUESTION VERSUS A STATEMENT, YOU BEAUTIFUL CHAOS MANIACS.
In Ukrainian this'd mean "Looking for kids in a burial vault".

I hate being forced to be in my body. Can't I please just be a disembodied stream of consciousness?
No?
