You guys really think your lip sync tik toks are gonna age well in a decade?

10 Words That You’ve Probably Been Misusing
1) Travesty
What you may think it means: a tragedy, an unfortunate event
What it actually means: a mockery; a parody
This one, I’ll admit, is my own personal error. For the longest time, I equated travesty with tragedy, mostly because in passing, they sound like the same word. It’s stupid, I know, but if you knew how many times I confused fetal position with beetle position, you wouldn’t be laughing. It’s a serious problem.
2) Ironic
What you may think it means: a funny coincidence
What it actually means: contrary to what you might expect
It’s not ironic that you bumped into a talking turtle in a sweater vest right after you told your friend how cool it would be to bump into a talking turtle in a sweater vest. It’s a coincidence, and believe it or not, those two words are not related. Also, you should probably lay off the drugs because I’m pretty sure animals shouldn’t be talking.
3) Peruse
What you may think it means: to skim or glance over something
What it actually means: to review something carefully/in-depth
How this definition got completely turned on its head, I’ll never know, but I’ll be sure never to say “I’m going to go peruse my math textbook” ever again, just in case someone overhears and tries to hold me to it under the real meaning.
4) Bemused
What you may think it means: amused
What it actually means: confused
Again, with the whole “words sounding alike” issue. I’m starting to think I just need hearing aids. This is getting out of hand.
5) Compelled
What you may think it means: to willingly do something, to feel like you need to do something
What it actually means: to be forced to do something (willingly or unwillingly)
The word you’re looking for is “impelled.” I agree, it doesn’t get enough attention.
6) Nauseous
What you may think it means: to feel sick
What it actually means: to cause nausea
When you eat too much ice cream and declare to your mom or the nearest adult, “I feel nauseous,” what you’re actually saying is that you are causing people around you to feel sick. Thanks, jerk. (For the record, “I’m nauseated” is the way to go.)
7) Conversate
What you may think it means: to hold a conversation
What it actually means: ABSOLUTELY NOTHING
This word is a mix of conversation and converse, and doesn’t actually exist, like unicorns or YOUR DREAMS. (I’m kidding. Unicorns are totally real.)
8) Redundant
What you may think it means: repetitive
What it actually means: superfluous, able to be cut out
“Including this sentence is redundant because you already mentioned your love of Santa Claus in the previous paragraph.” This has always been my exposure to the word redundant, so it only makes sense that I would think repetitive was correct. I can’t be the only one? Right? RIGHT?
9) Enormity
What you may think it means: enormousness
What it actually means: extreme evil
I don’t know where the “extreme evil” thing came from (probably the Devil) but enormity makes more sense as enormousness in my mind.
10) Terrific
What you may think it means: awesome, fantastic
What it actually means: causing terror
Okay, so “causing terror” is more of an outdated definition but I still thought it was interesting. Maybe keep this fun fact in the back of your mind the next time you call your favorite camper, “Terrific Tommy,” because technically, a few decades ago, that might have been an insult. Unless instead of a camper, he’s a serial killer. In that case, go for it.

A Game of Thrones (ASOIAF) by George R.R. Martin
It's been awhile since I wrote a review and I blame this series. I'll be talking mainly about the first book, A Game of Thrones but I'll probably also go into the further novels in the book. Spoiler warning for those that watch the TV show in case you don't want any future scenes spoiled.
These books are just... wow. They take a bit of patience because of the size and the multitude of stories that are introduced in the world but believe me when I say it's worth it. The books have pretty much everything you could ever think of - politics, romance, war, mythical creatures (direwolves and dragons, people), magic, zombie-like Others and even incest. There's so much happening that it's hard to really explain what the exact plot of these novels are and there are so many different family lines that I don't believe there is an obvious main character. To go as basic as possible, it's about a series of families fighting for the Iron Throne (hence the name of the first book) and while this war is occurring there is a much more dangerous thread of Others looming over the horizon - after all, winter is coming. ;)
GRRM manages to write characters you love and characters you love to hate. One of the biggest ups for me of this series is the way he manages to write females just as well as the males. And his characters are continuously developing throughout the books, such as that of Sansa. Sansa is only eleven at the start of the books and she's a bit of a twit but hey, she was being courted by a prince who seemed sweet to her, who can blame her? But still, not exactly the most likeable of characters. It's only once her father is executed and she's forced to stay at court and suffer at the hands of Joffrey that you really see that she has a spine of steel. She may not fight with swords and fists like her sister, Arya, but she wouldn't survive if she was like that - she shows that she's smart and knows how to survive with words.
I could write an entire novel of how much I love the characters - Daenerys with her dragons, Jon Snow at the Wall, the Starks with (or without) their direwolves, the Lannisters and their cunning (yes, even Joffrey who everyone loves to hate). If I had to pick favourite characters it would probably be Arya and Gendry and now that Arya has joined the faceless men I'm excited to see what she'll become and can't wait for her to return to Westeros, unite with her direwolf Nymeria and show the world just how much the Starks haven't forgotten.
I'm going to stop this here but don't be surprised if I come back to write a review on another character - I have something planned for Catelyn Stark who lots of people seem to dislike but I find her to a supremely strong female character despite flaws.
Real by Katy Evans
This book lived up to my expectations in several different ways. First of all, the alpha male type are my favourite and boxer Remington Tate definitely fits into this category. As well as being strong as nails from his career, he's also surprisingly sweet and I wish we had more of his point of view - there are some more books in the series upcoming this year, so fingers crossed we get to see a little more of what's happening in Remy's head. Another thing that I appreciated was the fact that Remington was diagnosed with bipolar, not something you often see when it comes to the men in novels (especially romance novels). Whether she portrayed it accurately is another matter, I'm not knowledgeable on the matter but I give her props for at least trying.
The main POV character, Brooke, was less likeable for me. I found her stilted and bland at the start although she does improve further on in the novel once she starts realising what she wants and that she needs to fight for it. The discovery of her sister in a place she shouldn't be also added another layer to her character.
Overall it was a decent read and since it's a series, I'm hoping the author will be able to expand on the characters further, especially Brooke.
Writing about war in a novel can seem pretty daunting – especially if you haven’t experienced it yourself. War may be the main theme of your book; or war may be a just small part of your story. Even if you haven’t had direct experience on the battlefield, you can...
Well, apologizing and not meaning it kind of defeats the purpose of apologizing.
