Hey this is actually an effective counter-trolling technique called the “Inane Flame.” Where you just repeat the same phrase over and over in response to a troll. It’s really good if it’s something that’s just a bit non sense and just a bit insulting. So this is a really effective version of it. They can’t argue with what’s been said, they can’t really say it back, they’re not sure if they’re being insulted or what. I used to pull this all the time in Broodwar after cannon rushing someone on ladder (I was 12, please don’t @ me). I learned it from someone in the clan I was in (I was 12 PLEASE don’t @ me).

This works in real life if you can keep a straight face and calm demeanor. It works against right wing dullards as well, obviously, since Gamers are mostly just that.

In memory of the funniest scene and biggest emotional climax in Killing Stalking. It’s not dead. I just like remembering it.

Sangwoo is not my favourite whumper, but he is probably my favourite example of a ‘funny whumper’ to date.

I was never super invested in Killing Stalking. I might do a scene-by-scene analysis of some of the better moments someday. This scene was probably my favourite one. It really reminds you that the series is neither a romance nor a psychological horror but absurdist dramedy. 

In the climax of the first arc, which was my favourite one when I got updates, the conflict rests on whether Beom can ‘cross the line.’ When he does, Sangwoo’s first instinct is to take the piss and lift him back inside, kicking and screaming.  When you first read it, seeing Beom escape feels thrilling. You watch him spend so long feeling anxious about the risk of death if he is caught and talking about his desire to be free and happy that you cannot help but root for him to triumph over his obsession.

Seeing Sangwoo casually crush Beom’s optimism is even more exciting. You expect Sangwoo to feel angry and brutalise Beom because the comic says so. It would not even be disappointing because the main appeal was Beom being kept in the basement and mouth-fed, bathed, dressed, and nursed. Then, Sangwoo turns everything on its head by playing the funny man. It feels like Sangwoo is 100% calm and composed. He does not feel any guilt or anxiety. You cannot help but feel slightly intimidated and helpless!

Of course, I just remembered this, but then there is the whole line, “Put me down!! You spawn of a dog!!” Seeing a whumpee fight back is so satisfying, especially when it is the first time and they are so animalistic and ineffective. It feels cathartic and honest but safe.

The muted colours, the camera angles… Everything is working to make this emotionally climactic. Out of all of the chapters, Chapter 8 honestly defines their relationship, especially for Beom. I might do an analysis of just Chapter 8. 

There are a lot of good moments that I did not mention, which have interesting subtext. 

I will have to practice more and would have to be in the right mood to do it. We will see! ❤️

Also notable, in Killing Stalking, Bum almost always verbally refers to Sangwoo as “Sangwoo-ssi,” keeping the polite honorific. It plays into their power dynamic. However, there is an instance in Chapter 6 when he drops it.
