since tiktok told me Garrett plays for the Bruins starting from the 2016/2017 season (aka Tuna Melt/Rose), I can't stop thinking about it
like, Garrett definitely imprints on Ilya: they are both such driven and passionate players, have a very similar family background, and are prone to excessive outbursts but also so inherently kind
Ilya is the first person to clock Philip - they met at some NHL event for like 2 minutes, but it's enough. the moment Garrett starts to play for the Bruins? Philip can't apparently find seats for the games anymore, security is always there to block him from going to the locker room, and Philip is LIVID, while Ilya is having the best time of his life
and in the meantime, Garrett becomes *his* rookie. not only does he offers him a room in his house, obviously, but he also trains him before every official training session because he sees such potential in Garrett, and wants to be for him the mentor he never had
Garrett tells Ilya /once/ that Hannah doesn't like to drink, and the first time they met at some team gathering at Ilya's? there are like ten non-alcoholic options, and Ilya doesn't let anyone near them until Hannah picks her favorite
one night, Garrett and Ilya come home after a night out, and they are a bit tipsy, and share stories of their mothers - they cry, and they hug each other, but pretend nothing happened the day after. still, the next week Garrett asks Tucker to help him learn how to make a Russian dish Ilya mentioned that night
the day of the Tuna Melt incident, Garrett is supposed to be at Hannah's, but goes back to pick up something he forgot, and sees Shane running away, only to then go inside and find Ilya basically catatonic. he pretends to not have seen anything, but the next day during the game? he follows Shane like a hunter with his prey. Shane doesn't touch the puck for more than 5 seconds, before Garrett is on him - he probably beats a record from how many times he checks Shane against the boards
"you broke my second best friend's heart and think you could go away with it???" - Garrett in his mind
driving back home after the game, Ilya asks him "why the fuck did you acted like that?", and Garrett tells Ilya about what he saw (making Ilya freeze) and that he doesn't take kindly to people hurting those he cares about. at this point, Ilya confess him everything about he and Shane's situationship, and Garrett has this moment of sudden realization that maybe they are, actually, both very in love and very stupid
and then Logan (who had been finally drafted that summer) is finally called up to play for the Bruins too, after Marlow gets injured during a game, and starts living at Ilya's as well. the first time they play together against Montreal? he sees Garrett acting like a menace to Shane's, and is super confused, but Garett /obviously/ doesn't want to spill Ilya's secrets, and so they are arguing about it in the kitchen at night, and Ilya finds them like this and tells them something along the line of "there is nothing to talk about. he doesn't want anything to do with me, go to sleep"
but Ilya has this devastated look on his face, and so Garrett and Logan decide that they need to do something about it. they go to the hotel the Metros are staying at, sweet talk the receptionist into giving them Shane's room number, and at this point it's like 2AM - but they knock at Shane's door until he opens, and are "what are your intentions with Ilya? because he is fucking in love with you"
and like, Shane has a minor panic attack, but also goes on a rant about why he and Ilya can't be anything, that he is not gay (Garrett snorts so fucking hard at that), and on and on. at this point, Logan very calmy asks "if you could have him, would you? if there wasn't the League to account for and the pressure of the rest of the world?"
Shane, obviously, nods. and so Garrett and Logan drive him to Ilya's, before going to a hotel for the night.
everything goes on like canon, Shane meets Rose, but they are just friends (because Shane is with Ilya) - still, they get photographed by paparazzi, and when someone shows Ilya the pictures in the locker room, Garrett and Logan strain very hard not to laugh out loud.
when Shane gets hurt on the ice, Logan and Garrett are basically a wall against the camera - acting like they are blocking Ilya from going to pound on his already hurt rival, but actually preventing him from showing how much he cares about Shane. they are outside of the hospital room for the "would you like to come to my cottage..." and smile like idiots, teasing Ilya on the way back
they watch the Stanley cup final together, Ilya, Logan and Garrett, with Sveta and Hannah, and a few of the others from Briar. when Scott kisses Kip, Logan and Garrett hug Ilya like it was the three of them who just won the Cup
Ilya then goes to the cottage, but this time, when Shane propose him going to Boston, Ilya thinks about Garrett and Logan and how he can't abandon them - so he tells Shane "why don't you come to New York instead?" (some vet player retired after winning the Cup, so they have the cap space)
Shane accepts, Ilya resign with Boston, and everyone lives happily ever after
