Thranduils Crown Headcanons
It’s different for every season.
The Silvan people have a celebration on the first night of each season and he always gets a new crown on those nights.
All the elflings (And low-key anybody who wants to bring him one) are allowed to pile a flower crown atop his head until they are literally unable to stay there are so many by the end of the night.
When they happens, somebody (usually Legolas) picks a favorite and that’s his new crown for the season.
Spells and charms are then placed upon them to keep everything perfectly preserved.
When he gets a new crown at the next season whoever created the old one is offered it back, and most start to think about it as a good luck charm of sorts and it’s extremely common to take a piece and make small jewelry.
Some keep the rest in their homes but most plant them somewhere; for in the Spring the ground bloom with all kinds of beautiful things. Some unexpected, some not.
All of the plants grown from his planted crowns seem to be filled with even more vibrant life and voice than even the Silvan Elves are accustomed to hearing because of soaking in so much if Thranduil’s magic for those months.
As the war gets worse, many start to give the crowns to the warriors to help brighten the forest and their connection with it.
This is also part of the reason Thranduil’s presence is so damn strong in his woods, and the voice of his trees hover at the back of his mind always.
There’s two planted in Imladris, one from Celebrian and one from Arwen.
Most unsuspecting visitors find themselves drawn to it for reasons they don’t understand. Sam all but slept there for half his stay in Rivendell.
Coincidentally, Legolas often sleeps in the branches when he misses his father. It’s also the first thing he plants in Ilithein after the war, and lives in it once it’s fully grown.
Thranduil still has Orophers metal crown, but he’s never been able to put it on.
Sometimes, Glorfindel swears he hear some of the crowns whispering to Thranduil. Whenever he brings it up Thranduil never denies nor confirms anything.
