prompt: revenge summary: Tom à la Princess Diana in the revenge dress. 457 words; implied/mentioned infidelity, a/b/o, omega tom

Tom looks himself over in the mirror, running a critical eye up and down himself several times for any flaws.

He smooths over a few wrinkles in the tight black fabric clinging to him, and makes sure he has a single black curl falling over his forehead in a way he knows the tabloids would call "devastating."

"If I may, sir, I think His Royal Highness won't quite know what hit him."

Tom's focus moves from the enormous collar of diamonds and emeralds encircling his throat to where Barty is awkwardly shuffling in the background, trying not to tug the stiff pressed collar of his shirt.

Tom looks back at his reflection, his bared shoulders, and smiles.

"Oh, I know," he says, soft and a bit cruel.

"Though, you know the papers are likely to go crazy about how scandalously the ex-husband of the Prince of Wales is dressed," Barty adds. "They'll probably call you a whore again." He cringes, as if realising what he's said. "I mean—"

"—it's nothing they haven't said before," Tom interrupts. His tone remains calm, but inside he feels like an inferno about to erupt and swallow everything in his vicinity. Not because of Barty, exactly, even though he is right.

The worst of those gossip rags would call him a slut, no matter that Harry's the one who continued whoring himself around with Diggory even after he and Tom had married.

The general public has always seen Tom as the black horse of the Royal Family. A devilish gold digger, no matter that his family line is actually older and ruled long before Harry's ancestors took over the throne.

A wicked omega that tore apart true love—he gags to think of anyone calling a bumpkin like Cedric Diggory that—by insisting on honoring the marriage contract between the Gaunts and Potters.

They'd be shocked to find how wicked their beloved Prince Harry could actually be, no matter how apologetic and rueful he acted when deciding that his and Tom's marriage was over.

Well, Tom can work with their perception. Even when dislike of him is at a high, he tends to overshadow the royals, even now that he only retains a prince title out of courtesy. He is a much more exciting figure than any of them.

He will ensure that Diggory would always be shown for the dullard he is in comparison to Tom, for both the public and for Harry. Today is simply the start of his redress. Harry will regret the disrespect and humiliation he's put Tom through, however ignorantly he claims.

"Let's go," Tom says, turning away from mirror, beckoning Barty to follow him from his dressing room. "I have a charity event to attend."

Sign-ups have ended, the official timeline is here!

Hello all! The sign-ups for the 2026 Tomarrymort Exquisite Corpse have ended. If you have signed-up, then we will be reaching out to you throughout the month of August 2026 on Discord to plan out your creating periods. 

Please make sure to check your Discord DM requests regularly!

With the current numbers of participants, we have planned out for two teams: A and B.  The Corpse creating period will start on September 6th, 2026 and end on January 23rd, 2027. 

Your two week-creating period will start on a Sunday and will end on a Saturday (ex. Sunday, Sep 6th to Saturday, Sep 19th), at the end of which you will have to hand in your first draft. 

Once the creating period of the final participants have ended, there will be an additional 2 week period given to further proofread your works. All final submissions should be handed in by February 7th, 2027 the latest. 

The mods will review all final submissions, and then the Corpse will be posted to AO3 on February 14th, 2027. 

Once again, please make sure you are checking your Discord DMs during this month of August because we need to know if your allotted period of time will work out for you. Delays in communication will result in having to reschedule and re-confirm everything with everyone.

which Harry Potter character(s) would you ship with Omry Kupp?

I though extremely long and hard about this because the answer was so important to me 😭 I have a few candidates for different reasons:

Snape: I think Snape is the most analogous to Novak, and so for a Novak-esque character and relationship following a similar trajectory as in Prince Ismerie I would pick him from HP canon era. However, also similar to Novak, Snape has so many of his own issues and so would take a long time to be emotional available 🤣💀 It could also be quite interesting if after his death Snape was dropped into PI world 👀

Neville: I could see post-HP canon Neville being extremely sweet with Omry and I think they would complement each other well, I also could see Neville having some of the more loving aspects of Anatol's personality (lmao). Anyway I think Neville would be lovely and not toxic at all for Omry 💚

Newt: kind of similar reasons to Neville, if picking from earlier generations I think I'd have to go with Newt. I think Omry would love taking care of and helping magical creatures as well 🐣

Honorable mentions: Percy Weasley (ok he's really not that similar to Novak other than looks wise 😂), Cedric (Anatol's himbo vibes), adult Teddy for next gen

if you're reading this wondering "who the hell is Omry Kupp," he's the main character in my favorite original work on AO3, Prince Ismerie by starstuddedsin. If you want an omegaverse novel roughly based on the fantasy of Anastasia with a side of revolution (or as the author describes, 'abused former whore gets roped into pretending to be a prince'), this is for you!! but seriously it's an incredible, captivating work and I highly recommend it 💜✨

Is it bitter like PTAOOOHHHY! Or bitter like hmm...my palate senses a disturbance?

somedays it is indeed PTAOOOHHHY, but most days i like to think it's a simple disturbance... and then somedays it's more savory, aka buttery.

though I I thought I'd take this chance to explain where my ao3 (thisbitterearth) and tumblr (mylifeisdust) usernames come from, for anyone curious.

'this bitter earth' is from dinah washington's song of the same name, though specifically the version that is a mashup with max richter's instrumental track 'on the nature of daylight' that was arranged for the shutter island soundtrack (mashup version).

on the nature of daylight is pretty famous on its own these days, having been featured in lots of movies and shows since shutter island. however, I first came across it in the mashup version with 'this bitter earth' when it was used for a ballet duet in 'five movements, three repeats' choreographed by christopher wheeldon.

I was fortunate to have seen this duet performed live in 2014 by the original dancers, wendy whelan and tyler angle. to date, it's one of the few dance pieces that has made me cry when watching. I wrote an essay about wheeldon shortly after and ended up choreographing my own dance pieces to other works by max richter several times.

I no longer really dance, but this popped into my head when I was trying to think of what to make my ao3 username, and since thisbitterearth was taken on tumblr, i ended up basing my user here on one of the song's lyrics, "if my life is like the dust."

though, these days I more often go by a simple bitter (or butter) ✨
