I hate Ready Player One. I’m reading the book for summer homework for my English class and oh boy it’s terrible.

SPOILERS!!

Wade Watts, the main character, is so annoying. He complains about fucking anything. The Sixers, which are kinda like griefers, blew up his “house” and yeah he cries about it but then he doesn’t even care! Like his dialogue and inner monologue is so nonchalant for someone who had to move so the Sixers didn’t find him because they thought he was inside the house when they blew it up.

Then he got annoyed when his “girlfriend” Art3mis, “broke up” with him. Mind you they weren’t even dating because she didn’t want to be with him!!! All of their interactions were online too in OASIS, which if you don’t know it, it’s like a very better VR chat.

After that Wade has a whole page and half of him talking about masturbating. He bought this robot thing that he puts on his you know and basically jerks himself off. Then there are so many words that say jerking off but don’t actually say it, like “spanking the monkey the old-fashioned way.”

Why am I, a sophomore, reading this? Who thought this was a good idea?

I absolutely hate how authors will make/point to the reader being white. I hope this makes sense but y/n or just “the reader” is supposed to be gender neutral, and not have a specific race, etc. Sometimes fanfic authors will have a white person in mind while writing and we can tell.
