The Stanley Parable is a take on depression actually!

In my last post I explained why Stanley is having a gay affair. Let's be more serious this time around, huh? Stanley has depression, the game is a take on escapism. I don't actually believe this fully, but let's entertain the idea for a moment.

Stanley is a man dealing with depression in his life. Everything feels static and boring; numb. His job of pushing buttons is a representation of going through day to day life without meaning. His coworkers aren't actually missing. Depression isolates you, you feel like nobody is there for you. Stanley's adventure is a coping mechanism, an escape. The Zending represents Stanley's struggle of choosing between stasis and change. The Narrator represents the outside world. The Narrator wants Stanley to stay in this state, to continue the cycle and pretend to be happy. Stanley wants an escape, by any means. Stanley is mentally dissociating more and more as the story goes on. The reason the office feals so fake is because we see everything as Stanley sees it. Everything is surface level, meaningless beyond that. Stanley hoped to see rain one day. How did Stanley know how the outside was if it was a void? Because it isn't a void, it just didn't matter. None of it mattered. The Memory Zone shows us holding onto past memories for comfort, letting others words break you down to the point of losing yourself, your principles. The Countdown Ending asks us do we value life as a pathway or life as an expericence of challenges to be had. What makes life important? The road or the choice? Without meaning it feels like an endless cycle repeating over and over, and this is what we see. While we are entertained by this game, once the screen is off we take a moment to distance from escape and face reality. Why is it that escape feels so good compared to this? It's a cycle. The Stanley parable offers a story that breaks the cycle, challenges the road. Stanley seeks escape. Are you seeking escape as well?

Stanley is coping with the bland cycle of a tireless life. Are you doing the same? Does reading blogs and scrolling through social media serve as an escape? Or is this part of the cycle? Am I apart of your cycle just as Stanley is?

What time is it? How much time are you wasting? Value what you have before it's too late. That's what The Stanley Parable wants you to know. The Timekeeper says as much.

The Narrator is not all knowing, we know this from his lack of knowledge regarding The Timekeeper. But! The Narrator does know about Stanley. Statement: Stanley is in fact addicted to drugs and hookers and this proves that he is secretly having a gay love affair. Evidence below.

We can assume The Narrator put up these letters, as Stanley was unaware of the show coming up. Do you see that? "I love the way you ride elevators <3 xx" Is Stanley cheating on his wife? Yes. We know this is not his wife, his wife signs her letters and has different handwriting. Clearly this was someone who did not want to be traced back, as they didn't sign their name. Stanley has to know this person, they've ridden in an elevator before. We know Stanley is hot with his coworkers and "tells good stories". What stories is he telling? Unimportant. More importantly, Stanley taught one of his coworkers a cool skateboard trick. Only drug addicts do cool skateboard tricks. With these letters, we can see that Stanley IS addicted to drugs and hookers! What if Stanley is distracting himself with hookers to hide his sexuality. The broom closet, it was a metaphor you see. Stanley's bucket is a metaphor for his gay love affair. A metaphor for the elevator letter.

Tbh the more you play TSP the more you get the inexplicable impression that the office building was created by an entity with a very surface-level understanding of what an office building is supposed to be. The place is basically screaming ‘I am a normal location in a normal world where normal human people do Work and Jobs and am definitely not suspended someplace abstract and outside of time at all!’ at you and expecting you to believe it. What jobs do people do in office buildings? Well, they… they push buttons on keyboards! The meeting room is full of details that tell you exactly nothing about what kind of office building this is (other than the fact that somebody named Chris was, at one point, in the broom closet).

The Stanley Parable office building is in the uncanny valley for places.

The Original Stanley Parable released July 31st of 2011 as a Half-Life 2 mod. The Official Stanley Parable released October 17th of 2013 on steam. The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe released April 27th of 2022. Otherwise known as 04/27. The mobile release of The Stanley Parable went out on October 7th of 2024. Very close to the 11th anniversary may I add.

The Stanley Parable is a game featuring a man named Stanley. This game follows Stanley through his choices after discovering that all of his coworkers have gone missing. You play as Stanley while The Narrator guides you through the game. Truly, it is known as a game of choice, one that attracts the likes of many yaoi enjoyers. You will find many of these gays on this very app. After the release of The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe, the content nearly doubled in size. This attracted the likes of fans and newer players alike! The game is known to be very well made and quite enjoyable through its humor and storytelling.

The mobile release is very similar, though it does add a bit of newer content as well. Might I say that the paywall is rather attractive. I've yet to know how well the game is fairing yet as it recently released, but I have seen pleased fans. The game ended up on "Game of the Day" on the iOS app store shortly after the release. Crows crows crows continues to keep its fans well feed with an influx of content and merch.
