how?! im doing something similar for my year 12 studio arts folio but this is something else!

Hah, alright I'll give it up, but how simple it is might be disappointing. Take the squares for example, I continually option dragged them in a diagonal pattern until I had roughly 20 squares. Then to make the distances between them all equal, I did the double horizontal center align, and double vertical center align. Next was to duplicate one side, making two equal but opposite diagonal lines of squares. Then you align the central shape of the two together making a V. Next you duplicate the V and flip the duplicate vertically and align the square shapes at both ends with the original V. Thus making the end shape. I hope that helps!
