The Stars

Tonight I went outside to dance under the stars. Even ten minutes of reconnecting with nature before bed helps me to sleep better. And the sky was perfect for stargazing. I spotted Orion and the Pleiades and the Big Dipper. It turns out there are a lot of other constellations right by Orion that I could be memorizing. Taurus should be just to the right of it for example. At sunrise three planets should be visible as the moon sets. If I get up early enough I should look for those. They are easier to see from the Southern horizon.

We had a bit of a cold snap that made me all too aware that I’m not ready for winter, as far as getting the house and the yard winterized. The feral cats are getting their winter coats. I’ve started to prune back the trees and bushes. I need to bring more firewood up to the house. It’s sure to be full of spiders and maybe snakes so I’ll have to be careful. The wood burning stove has a small door so the pieces have to be cut smaller in most cases. Chain saws scare me but my friend can do it if he gets his chain saw fixed. Last time he tried it, the thing wouldn’t start.

I have garlic still to plant so I hope it’s not too late already.

I want to repair and paint the porch fence and the mailbox post. And the door needs to be fixed on the small chicken coop. I certainly won’t run out of work around here any time soon.
