“I think that’s the best compliment anyone’s ever given me.” Seb confessed as he looked at her with a large smile on his cheeks. He contemplated her words, tilting his head from side to side in thought, “Well, because you’re only using one leaf… you’re technically not harming it as much as you would be if you were to use a napkin because they cut down multiple tree’s to make multiple napkins. You know what I mean?”

“What? Surely not the best compliment” she insisted, a tone of surprise in her voice. She slowly nodded along with his reasoning, “Justifying my nonsense. I knew I liked you for a reason.I needto keep you around.” Myah gave him alight nudge with her elbow.

“Hell yes!” She raised the stick with her now burnt marshmallow at the end of it, laughing at the sight.

Myah gestured to Sutton’s burnt marshmallow with her best Vanna White impersonation, “Here we see art exhibit A.” She moved her hands to motion to herself, “ And here you see art exhibit B.” Her smile widened before she let out a light laugh,

“In all fairness, I have never had cake that didn’t fall into that category.”

He raised an eyebrow at her, tilting his head to the side at her words, “Am I a cute puppy at least?” He grinned, mimicking the way she moved her mouth. Seb laughed when he saw the leaf, shaking his head in amusement, he looked back up, “Well… It’s better than wasting a napkin, or getting it on yourself. So, I give you props for that.”

"The cutest in the pack, hands down" she laughed and gave a stern nod of reassurance. She gave him a quick yet elated thank you, delighted by his compliment. Myah turned her face towards his, resting her chin on her hand. "But now I'm not sure if I'm helping nature by sparing a napkin or harming it by going directly to the source."

Elijah laughed. “If it did, I’d be way more ahead in this country than I already am. You wouldn’t be too far down on the hierarchy, either.” He gave her a wink. Shoving his hands into his pockets, he leaned against the wall beside them casually. “Do I? Well, maybe I just don’t want to come off as too arrogant. You gotta leave things open-ended, you know? I do a pretty good job at coming off as humble and down to earth, if I do say so myself. However, that in no way conflicts with my sincerity, especially when it comes to taking you to dinner.” 

“Oh god bless you for gracing me with the honor,” she thanked him dramatically, placing a hand over her heart. “I would much more prefer a definite invite. Something along the lines of ‘Myah you are the absolute greatest, will you please go to dinner with me?’ Further pleading optional but encouraged.” Her lips pressed into a hard line attempting to suppress a laugh. “But to match your Mother Teresa-like sincerity, I will say yes,” she agreed finally, now smiling. “I’m not doing all of the work though.” Myah arched an eyebrow to reiterate the seriousness of her statement.

Theo shook his head and chuckled lightly at her remark.

“Lucky for you, the council is made up of me, myself, and I.”

Elijah let out a laugh, shaking his head. “I dunno about that, I usually cast my votes purely on appearance. I think, ‘if I met this person in a bar, would they be able to convince me to sleep with them?’ Because those are the kind of people we need in charge.” He told her, attempting to hide the fact that he was joking. However, when everything that came out of his mouth was some form of a joke, it was kind of difficult.  “Hey, everything I say is very much genuine.” He countered. “Sutton and I are perfectly content with ordering take out every night, but I’m willing to give that up for a night, just for you.” 

Myah shook her head a little and shot him a sideways glance. “Just what America needs to run on: sex appeal.” Her hand moved as though the last two words were on a billboard in front of her. Myah had already considered accepting his offer,but she wouldn’t let herself falter to his self-assured attitude. “For someone who claims to be genuine, you sure do use a lot of ‘mights’ and ‘maybes’” she retorted, lightly poking him in the middle of the chest.

“Well, I guess I can move out of my apartment.” Clare joked, pulling the marshmallow from the fire. She blew on it quickly, attempting to extinguish the flames that had engulfed it. Once she had, she grabbed a graham cracker and some chocolate, putting together the s’more. “The secret is to use two pieces of chocolate.” She grinned, handing to s’more over to the other girl.

“All the world’s questions have now been answered” Myah concluded with playful awe in her voice. She took a plentiful bite  and managed to mumble a  small “mhmm” with a nod, her expression brightening. “I knew it. This s’more could end all wars,” she praised the girl in a matter-of-fact tone.

“Your suggestion has been taken into deep consideration and will be reviewed by the council.”

He pouted at her, trying to pull off the little bit of gooey marshmallow still stuck to his pants. “So, the moral of my lesson is that there’s no way to be a s’mores sensai, but if there was… I would be him.” He winked at her, his own laugh bubbling from within him. “Though, you’re probably better than I am. Especially ‘cause it looks like you don’t have any of it on you.”

“You know if you use a little more lip, you could pull off this whole scruffy puppy look you’ve got going for you.” She turned down the corners of her mouth to demonstrate. “That,” Myah clarified, “would be because I am at one with nature and have been using this poor, poor innocent leaf as a napkin.” She held up a flimsy green leaf and rotated it to reveal the mess on the opposite side.

“The world is our stage, Myah. And you can do whatever the hell you want with it. Making messy food is more apart of that then anything else!” She exclaimed through her laughter.  

“You bet your darn skippy,” Myah scrunched her nose in dissatisfaction. “Nope, I cannot pull that off. How about a big hell yes instead?” She lifted her mostly empty drink with triumph.

Malachi let out a light chuckle, “The only rule in s’mores making is that if you aren’t getting a little messy, then you’re not doing it right, it’s fun like that. So, looks like you’ve got the art pretty much covered. The grilled cheese thing though– that’s what impresses me. I’ve got an MO for burning the bread myself.”

“Oh it takes years of hardcore training to be a true cheese pleaser. Your time will come.” she comfirmed with a nod and a smile.  “That sounds like something my old teacher would say.” She paused and her eyes somewhat widened with vague familiarity. “We didn’t go to elementary school together, did we?”

“Don’t you worry, my friend. There is no art to it. All it is, is icky sticky chocolaty goo-ness that turns out to be delicious mess.” She chuckled, taking a marshmallow and sticking it in the fire as she bit into a piece of chocolate. 

“You know I was half expecting a whole ‘there is art everywhere!’ speech”, she threw her arms out in front of her gesturing to the theoretical ‘everywhere’. “The world is your oyster!” She hesitates. “Or in your case, a stage.”

“You don’t want me living with you- I clean obsessively.” She grinned, putting the marshmallow on the skewer and holding it over the fire, “You know that you can just do this in a microwave, right?”

“Your sales pitch is only increasing your value, you know. Feel free to move in any time between eight and five.” she reassured the girl with a smile. Myah pulled a chocolate bar from the bag and popped it into her mouth. After a moment of chewing, she nodded, “I know but we’re out here, and the microwave is waaay back there.” her head tilted toward the house.

“What?” He questioned in false confusion, a small innocent smile tilting up the corners of his lips. “You know, that may be what you meant, but all I took from it is that you think I’m charming enough to be president.” He replied, shrugging his shoulders. “You know, you might just be pretty lucky yourself. After you’re done with the place, maybe I’ll take you to dinner as a very generous way of saying thank you.”

Myah slowly shook her head, “You can’t simply dominate an election with glittering generalities and a winning smile. Otherwise I would have been leader of the free world by now.” she teased returning the smirk he was so famous for, but she paused to stop herself from going on incessantly. His offer pulled her up short. She turned, now completely facing him and narrowed her eyes in suspicion.    “Is this genuine generosity or is it just because neither you nor Sutton cook? ”
