I'm mapping out a long ass timeloop fic n I'm doing introspectives on characters in isolation and how that affects their relationships with the others n im ngl i started too strong. been staring at this like all day

Pete sees a dearness in him that turns Ray’s insides something bubbly and sick. 

Stebbins alludes to a weakness Ray denies. 

Collie dismisses him with an aloofness that would feel personal if it weren’t applied to everyone. (Everyone except Pete Mcgrives.) 

Harkness implores about Ray’s soul like there’s anything worth a damn about it. Like he contains a rarity made for history; like out of the entire fifty line up, the number forty seven steps apart. (Only, Harkness sees every boy like that. Like they’re all heroes of fifty different stories.)  

Ray runs away from his mind before it can close in on him. His feet pump onward. A familiar green blurs in the corners of his eyes and he hates the ungratefulness of his negligence. 

Pete reinvents the greenery every dozen miles, yet it all lands dull on his eyes where his ears hear music. Pete’s music. His zest for life and admiration for the common. 

Maybe that’s why he’s hung around Ray this long. He’s a blurring leaf that Pete happened to zero in on. The prettiest version of him exists solely on Pete’s tongue. He wonders when Pete will find another leaf to fancy."
