My project basically thinks like a 17 year-old boy. These are screen captures from the serial monitor.

After a nap, I reorganized the project and sat down to begin fine tuning the electronics while the silicone plugs cure.

Planning the enclosure and pouring silicone ‘plugs.’ Not sure if my plug concept will work. The idea is to create two silicone bases on either side of the enclosure that are attached by what I am calling plugs: thick bits of silicone poured through holes. If it doesn’t work as well as I like then I will laser cut some balsa wood flanges and fasten them with wood screws in the morning. When pouring the plugs I elevated the enclosure from the work surface using dimes. Then I poured the silicone. I gave it ten minutes to begin setting up then removed the dimes and clamped the enclosure down to sort of pancake the poured silicone creating a flange effect on the plugs. I also cut a little extra air tubing to make passage ways for the actual tubes which are already installed in the dildonics.

Air pump on 7805 and solenoid working. Adjustment to motor timing and power level needed. Tip120 and diode needed for solenoid. Ready to add PIR sensor and mount to enclosure.

Little dick cast came out really really nice. Sadly I had to destroy the mold though.

Its worth noting that all the electronics for the pneumatic dildonics could fit easily inside the bigger dick. This could be a viable product idea for transgender guys and amputees.

The big dick now has a base and air tubes!

Okay, my first max patch for 'GLORY GLORY GLORY’ selects which dick of three dicks to inflate as someone walks by them. The main problem with this approach is that it doesn’t handle multiple people well. It was really cool playing with maxuino and firmata. But I think I may need to switch to using individual distance sensors for each dick instead.

First cast!!!! Okay. This came out way fucking better than I thought my first cast would be. First of all it actually looks like a dick, a weird dick, but a dick all the same. Second even with a few holes it inflated nicely when I blew it up. The weighted head idea totally works, too. This was just one layer of painted on silicone. I think with two or three layers it will look amazing. I am still waiting for my second mold to harden. I actually vulcanized my first mold by dipping it in a hot water bath. I may try this with my new mold too to see if it helps speed things up. Off to pour a second test of the big dick.

Practicing casting with larger mold and Smooth-On 25 brushable silicone. I poured the ‘head’ then brushed latex up the sides of the shaft. Then I propped the mold up in a jar of lentils to help it keep shape. Then tapped the jar for about thirty minutes to remove air bubbles. You can see some bubbles that have been released in the final image.

Having some trouble finding a tube the right thickness to plug a hollow tube in the shaft. Next step: make one out of things in the recycling bin.

A Space Emergency!

The recordings for our badass space radio show on WNYU 89.1 FM, somewhat prophetically entitled The Gone, were accidentally deleted during an upgrade to our studio's computer system. We need your help!

Here’s how to get on board:

1. Create a radio broadcast from the future.

Imagine it is 100 years in the future. You are on a space ship or a space colony, and the only way to communicate with other people is through a one-way radio broadcast. Record your message to other space travelers, telling us who you are and why you are broadcasting. Include any interesting information about your situation: what's the name of your home, how many people are with you, what's your role in the space community, etc. (5 minutes or less) 

2. Upload your recording.

Please submit recordings by April 10th, 2015.

You can record your story in a quiet room with an iPhone using the built-in voice memo program (detailed instructions), or you can use a studio setup and send us a .WAV file.

Please leave a little breathing room between sentences for editing. Don’t worry about getting it perfect in one take. It is okay to try saying a line more than one way, or to stop and repeat yourself if you need to.

We will edit them to make you sound amazing!

After you record your story, sync your phone with your computer (detailed instructions), then upload your voice memo below.

Please be sure to include your first and last name in the file name.
