It's always important to remember what being a part of a community like this means. For me personally it means home, it means love, friendship and safety but for millions of people across the world right now it's the opposite, with everything going on in the world (especially with the recent rulings in the UK and USA) it's easy to forget that not everyone has a safe space in the world, they're being persecuted and hated for just being themselves!

Remember people, be there, be seen, be careful, be proud but above all be kind!

Pro tip: Avoid “boy” or “girl” when writing steamy romance scenes. You really don’t want your reader to get confused about character age.

In fact, completely reevaluate your use of “boy” and “girl” when writing adult characters. Do you find you’re primarily using “girl” for adult females, but rarely use “boy”?

I thought of this post recently after receiving a review from a reader. They wanted to know the age of my main character who I describe as young, but whom I also mention has a day job. Those two details together confused my reader, despite the fact that I made a point of regularly identifying the character as a “woman” and never as a “girl.”

Reading comprehension aside, I couldn’t blame that reader. I’ve read many online stories and a few published novels where I couldn’t determine the age of the female character because she was continually being referred to as “girl,” which becomes all the more disconcerting in romances. Even when it’s made clear both partners are the same age, writers insist on referring to the female as though they’re the child of the relationship.
