Consent is there in Knot. We see it with Phatsa making boundaries after he’s bitten. He doesn’t want to be touched without permission. And Nakhun agrees.
So why did Nakhun bite him originally? Instincts. A true alpha has so much self control and restraint. He has to be in control of his own body. He’s not gonna release his pheromones without warning to random omegas on the street. True Alphas are classy and trained.
When Nakhun first smelled Phatsa’s faint scent on the coffee cup, that was his instincts going “oh my fucking god what is this and why does it smell so fucking good” and it’s literally just the tiniest smell of rain. (Because Phatsa can’t control it yet)
That’s our first look into Nakhun losing control and he became obsessed with that cup.
So when he saves Phatsa (who’s not fully aware he’s releasing his omega pheromones), he loses ALL SELF CONTROL. His instincts said “SOULMATE!! MUST HAVE NOW.” And before Nakhun could fully fight it, the bite happened.
His instincts made this impulsive decision and got him in a mess. And he’s baring the consequences to his actions.
In the morning when they are smelling each other, Nakhun is trying to show Phatsa that they can’t control themselves with this. (He literally says your smell makes me want to kiss you.) And he’s obviously not ready for every bit of lore being thrown at him. The man compared his scent to farting for gods sake. They are towing the thin line by testing their pheromones together. Like you see Phatsa physically snap out of it and is SHOCKED. He just sniffed the hell out of that man and was about to kiss him. When it’s Phatsa’s turn to dish it back, their instincts went haywire and they both get lost in the sauce. If Nakhin didn’t interrupt they might have had a fun morning. Speaking of, that force field we see is Nakhun releasing intimidation as an instinctual possessive reaction - he could have growled or hissed and it wouldn’t be out of place.
When Phatsa is suffering from Bond Fever and they reunite, Nakhun looks insanely rabid with the way he’s all over him. His instincts kicked in and trying to get his scent all over him to heal him. His omega is DYING from separation. His instincts are making him smother his omega in pheromones as fast as possible. Heat sex in this way is NOT pretty and we can see how rough they are getting here. Their bodies are telling them it’s not enough.
And we see Nakhun reel himself back. He stops twice. He brings himself back to reality to breathe. Hell, I thought the man was gonna howl at one point.
He realizes he’s breaking consent even though he’s trying to save his life. And we see that all of that wasn’t enough. Phatsa goes back to being in full heat and it’s insatiable - he needs his alpha’s dick. It’s omegaverse rules in play. That bussy needs penetration (and a knot). And you can see the terror forming in his eyes as he realizes what his body is telling him to do. And he’s contemplating in horror because it’s not what he wants. He doesn’t want to fuck this hot stranger who smells so fucking good but his body is saying you have to in order to live. And he’s fighting himself as his body goes further into heat. And you can see Nakhun, who’s back in control of himself, realizing with concern something is very wrong.
And so Phatsa jumps his alpha because he needs that release and his instincts desperately want that whiskey smelling alpha next to him. Nakhun sees how his omega is acting (aggressively dry humping to no end) and knows what will follow is not pretty. He’s stopping Phatsa because he knows he’s not fully there. He’s checking for some kind of consent. And asks if he’s in heat. But Phatsa who’s new to all of this is unsure what’s happening. And Nakhun goes hey if we continue - don’t mind what happens. Because he’s gonna lose control over himself with the pheromones.
This heat induced sex driven by pheromones has hella blurred the dubious consent line. Because Phatsa can’t properly consent to the way his body is acting in this state. And then we don’t see the rest of that sex - which is okay. Their first time isn’t pretty or romantic.
And then after that intense feral sex, we have Phatsa start driving that hard line in bed. He does not want to be touched without consent moving forward. And we see Nakhun agree with this because it gets him to stay in proximity.
and now entering ep 3, we are in coerced cohabitation zone where we will see over time how their consent vs instincts evolve with their closeness.
My wish is for Knot to be so undeniably popular and beloved that GMMTV sees no choice but to follow the trends and make an omegaverse BL just because it would be hilarious to me.
