The first part of this fic takes place just a couple of hours before Counting the Minutes, and part 2 takes place the week before Secret's Out.
Part 1: Goodbye My Lover
In the darkest part of the night, Cassie Valentine could pretend there was only now and this moment. She was exactly where she was supposed to be, fallen so deep there was no way back. Not that she wanted out.
Wrapped around her lover, his scent filling her senses, she prayed for time to stop. Anything to slow the approaching dawn of a new day. And the plane that would take Ethan Ramsey away from her for who knew how long.
This shouldâve been the beginning. Not the end. But Cassie consoled herself that it was neither.
It was a temporary pauseâan interludeâwhile Ethan did important work in the Amazon. She had fallen in love with a world-renowned physician, which meant sharing him with those who needed him. She couldnât begrudge that.
She would miss spending stolen moments in his arms. The way he cursed under his breath and pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration. And what did it say about her that she found the sneer on his lips sexier than a smile?
Ethan would come back, thought Cassie. His life was here, his work, his legacy. He would come back to her. She had to believe it. Otherwise, the next few months would be unbearable.
And yet a morose voice inside her whispered that she wasnât enough. Not if Ethan decided the mission was more important than the potential of what they could be to each other.
Cassie didnât realize she had drifted off to sleep until a shrill alarm cut through the haze in her head, jolting her awake. She felt Ethanâs chest rise and fall beneath her, and the sound abruptly ended. The silence stretched; time would stand still if she kept her eyes shut. Wouldnât it?
She felt his gaze and lifted her head off his chest to meet his laser-blue eyes. Her own softened when she caught the tender way he was watching her.
She nestled against him, tucking her face into the crook of his neck. He folded her into his arms, his lips brushing the side of her head.
âIâm glad you stayed,â Ethan whispered.
âI donât want to be anywhere else,â she said. âWe have so little time left.â
She tried to hide the disquiet in her voice, but he heard it anyway.
âIâm coming back, Cassie,â he said vehemently. âThis isnât my first engagement with the WHO. I always come back.â
âIâm holding you to that, Dr. Ramsey,â she said, forcing a chuckle. But it was a hollow sound as dread made her throat tighten.
âI should get up; get ready.â He let out a yawn and started to move.
âNo, not yet,â she protested. âWhen we get up, itâs over.â
He stilled as she repeated the words heâd uttered a few weeks ago. Another dawn after an unforgettable night. One they thought would be their last.
âFive more minutes,â he agreed.
His lips grazed her forehead, and he settled back against the headboard. His hand reached for hers, interlacing their fingers. She tilted her head back to keep her green eyes locked on his.
Five turned to ten, and then it was over.
Six weeks laterâŠ
Cassie finished a patient consult and exited the exam room, her cheery demeanor deflating as soon as the door closed. Out of habit, she checked her phone for any messages, but the screen remained stubbornly blank except for her wallpaper.
She unlocked the phone and switched to the messaging app, scrolling to Ethanâs name. Her last two messages were still showing as undelivered, and she fumed in frustration. She wondered where he was. If he was okay.
Ever since he left, she had received one measly message to say heâd arrived in Manaus. After that, heâd gone radio silent. Cassie knew heâd received some of her texts but not all. And yet he never replied.
She started to resend her last message when the words Code Blue echoed down the hall and from the tinny speakers in the ceiling. She dropped the phone in the pocket of her scrubs, her feet already sprinting towards the crash cart.
Later that night, Cassie finished drying her hair and got ready for bed. Her bedroom was her sanctuary from the stress of residency. She left work behind when she closed the bedroom door and focused on her well-being.
But today, her mind wouldnât shut out the noise and the confusion from the debacle in the hospital.
Cassie massaged her temples, willing the headache to dissipate. When that didnât work, she dabbed a few drops of aromatherapy oilâa gift from her momâon pressure points and waited.
Sighing when that too failed, she checked the time and knew only one person could help her. And if he griped at being woken up in the middle of the night? Well, thatâs what Twin Code was for.
Part 2: Make Me Better
A week later, Cassie walked down the jetway and into the terminal of Nice Airport, biting back yawns after a long flight. She switched on her phone, silently cursing at the list of messages on the Roomies group chat, but nothing from Ethan.
As she crossed the concourse after clearing Customs, she reminded herself that this week was for her family. If Ethan Ramsey couldnât be bothered to send even a smoke signal, he didnât deserve a second of her time.
Of course, words were cheap, she thought as she waited for the carousel to spit out her bags. She wanted to put Ethan out of her mind, but he wasnât going anywhere.
Cassie wheeled her bags towards the exit, her eyes scanning the sea of strangers until she saw Max standing to the side. He was, looking right at her, a familiar and welcome smile on his lips. And then she ran towards him, uncaring about who was in her way.
She didnât realize how much she missed him and her family until she burst into tears when he hugged her.
âHey, whatâs wrong?â he asked in a concerned tone as she buried her face into his shirt, her body shaking with uncontrollable sobs.
âIâm fine,â she lied, tears soaking his cotton tee shirt.
She pulled away and wiped her face with shaking hands. âSorry. I didnât realize how much I was holding inside until I saw you.â
âClearly!â
She giggled and swatted his arm playfully when he rolled his eyes dramatically
He grabbed the trolley handle, pushed it down to release the brake and started walking her toward the exit.
âLuckily, weâll be stuck inside a car for the next forty-five minutes or so,â he said, pulling on his shades against the bright Mediterranean sun. âAnd guess what, scout? Thereâs a ton of jazz music in your future unless you tell me exactly whatâs wrong. And donât hold anything back!â
As she settled into the passenger side of the red convertibleâso typical of Maxâshe knew she had made the right decision coming on this family trip.
For the next few days, she would leave Edenbrook and Boston behind and focus on being a good daughter and the best sister she knew how to be. No more wallowing in the past.
She would take it one day at a time, and that was that.

SERIES MASTERLIST
Ethan moved across the packed floor of the lounge. Although slithering may have been a more fitting term given the crowd assembled. Pharma executives in hand-tailored suites, an occasional politician or two, most likely on the take, and of course, a swarm of doctors.
Doctors.
He grumbled to himself. These werenât worthy of the term. As far as Ethan was concerned, being a doctor ceased to exist the moment making a buck became more important than patient care. The crowd here? They werenât doctors to him. He was trying to think of places he would less rather be, but he couldnât think of many. Thoughts of bolting played over and over in his mind, and he swore he felt his body moving toward the exit. But it was too late.
Charlotteâs lips curled into a coy smile when their eyes locked. She studied him intently as he walked her way, taking him in the way an animal surveys its prey. He felt his stomach churn, the desire to flee increasing tenfold. But he felt the need to make things right as much as Jackie did. For all his loathing of the âdoctorsâ in attendance, he was responsible for bringing Panacea on board at Edenbrook. When push came to shove, he also put his own desires above the greater good. He needed to right that wrong. So with a deep breath, he produced the most sincere smile he could muster and stepped in front of a simpering Charlotte.
"Dr. Ramsey?" she purred, doing nothing to conceal her adulation. "Can you reassure me this isn't a dream?"
"With the caliber of scotch they're serving? If this is a dream, youâll have to reclassify it as a nightmare."
Her face soured, and she glared at the bar with fury in her eyes. "Iâm disappointed to hear that. Panacea has spared no expense on this event, and our intention is to impress our most distinguished guests. I will speak with management.â
âNo need,â Ethan reassured. âIâm confident that the majority of your guests are not as discerning as me. A fancy bottle and a high price tag, theyâll be easily convinced that the swill theyâre drinking is top shelf. So, Panaceaâs goals will be met.â
âHmmm,â she hummed, eyeing him salaciously from head to toe. âThe thing is, Iâm not really concerned about what most think, but I amâŠâ she stopped short with a coy smile. âYou know, I was in the VIP sportsbook earlier, and they were serving Balvenie 40. Would that be to your satisfaction?â
âIt depends,â he replied with a cocked eyebrow. âAre you buying?â
Charlotteâs head tilted back in a fit of laughter far more enthusiastic than the situation merited. As she drowned out the jazz quartet and the hum of dozens of conversations around them, heads began to turn their way. Unbeknownst to Ethan, two of those heads belonged to Jackie and Sienna.
âIâm happy to treat you this evening,â she enticed. âWell, Panacea is. In any case,â she inched closer, locking her eyes on his as she caressed his forearm with a well manicured hand. âYou wonât have to pay a cent to enjoy the finest things Vegas has to offer tonight. What do you say, Dr. Ramsey?â
He stood silently, partly to maintain an air of mystery but mainly to prevent himself from saying what he wished he could say. Only after Charlotte looped her arm into his did he reply.
âI say, lead the way.â
~~~~~Â
âDid you see that!â Sienna shouted.
Jackie twisted her lips, âI did.â
âTell me thatâs part of the plan! Where is Casey? This better be part of the plan!â
Jackie stretched her neck to search the room. âI donât see her. But she did say she was making herself scarce...â
âBut the minute sheâs goneâŠheâs⊠heâsâŠ.â
âSienna, stop preparing to bite his ankles. Itâs probably part of the plan⊠Ethan doesnât strike me as the type who would have a thing for that rattlesnake. Besides, weâre not even sure if he and Casey are together.â
Senna looked at Jackie with a knowing smirk.
âYeah, I know⊠why donât you text Casey.â
âI already did,â Sienna declared. Â
âI should have known! Why donât we head to the sportsbook ourselves? We can watch whatâs happening and maybe get some dirt on Charlotte.â
âBut isnât it VIP-only?â
Holding up a gold-plated pass in her hand, Jackie started to pout. âAnd who do you think youâre hanging out with? Iâm one of Panaceaâs favorites, remember? Just stick with me.â
~~~~~Â
The two women waited impatiently at the entrance of the sportsbook while Ethan and Charlotte settled into a small table in a darkened corner of the room.
âWe should just go in,â Sienna insisted.
âTheyâre not going to have sex on the bar in the next five minutes, Si! Relax.â
âI didnât say they were! But Iâm anxious to get on with it!â
A relieved smile spread on Jackieâs face when she saw Bryce leading the rest of the gang their way. âWell, it looks like we are on our way to doing that!â Â Â
âYou summoned, Jackie?â Bryce grinned.
"I did. Ethanâs in there with Charlotte, and we think heâs trying to cozy up to her for info, butâŠ.â
âCozy being the operative word!â Sienna scowled.
âWell, just ask Casey,â Elijah interjected.
âWe would, but sheâs nowhere to be found,â Jackie sighed. âShe hasnât replied to our texts, and⊠Iâm getting worried.â
âIâm sure sheâs fine, but we could spread out and look for her,â Aurora offered. âOne of us is bound to run into her.â Â
âThatâs not a bad idea,â Jackie agreed. âSince Iâm the only one with a VIP pass, Iâll stay here and scope out Charlotte and Ramsey.â
âIâm staying too,â Sienna insisted.Â
âI will, too,â Elijah grinned. âItâs not every day I get to conduct a heist in a place this swanky!â
âItâs not exactly a heist,â Jackie clarified.
âNo matter; itâs still swanky!â
âI guess Iâll take Bryce, then. Weâll keep an eye for Declan and hopefully find Casey in the process.â
âGood plan!â Bryce nodded. âIâll be your handsome arm candy, disarming people with this million-dollar smile.â
âOn second thought,â Aurora cringed, âIâll trade you for Elijah.âÂ
âOh, hell no!â Jackie retorted. âYou wanted the meathead? Heâs all yours! Just keep your phones on. We have to be able to reach each other.â
âDonât worry, Jackie,â Bryce winked, âWith us on this⊠weâll be done in no time.â
Aurora shook her head as she dragged him off. âForgive me if I lack his confidence.â Â
~~~~~Â
The three friends commandeered a perfect spot just feet away from Ethan & Charlotte, but obscured by several large plants, they could listen in without being seen.
âSo, do we get to bet while we wait?â Elijah grinned.
âWeâre not here to play!â Jackie reminded. âLetâs do what weâre here to do, and if weâre lucky, we can enjoy Vegas a bit before we head back to Boston.âÂ
Sienna peeked through the leaves to spy on the couple as their copious laughter filled the air. Ethan swirled a crystal glass of amber liqueur in his hand, and the server poured a fresh flute of  Dom Perignon for Charlotte.
âHow much does she drink?â Sienna whispered.
âIf it helps the cause, I hope a whole lot more,â Jackie replied.Â
Charlotte raised her glass with a smile. âCheers,â she beamed, bumping her glass against Ethanâs. Â
âAgain?â He sneered. âHow many times are we toasting?â
âAre you complaining? I hope your beverage is to your satisfaction.â
âItâs quite good,â he stated. âBut it takes more than this to satisfy me.â
âWell,â Charlotte cooed, âluckily for you, the night is still young.â
Several feet away, a red-faced Sienna jumped to her feet. âThatâs it, Iâm going toâŠ.â
âYouâre going to sit down and shut up,â Jackie instructed.
âOrder another. Remember, itâs on me.â
âOne doesnât gulp this sort of thing. It isnât, say, Dom Perignon.â
Once again, Charlotte drew attention, laughing much more than she should, as Ethan shifted uncomfortably in his seat. Looking up, he caught Jackieâs eye, and with a slight nod, Jackie felt some reassurance.
âDid you see that!â she whispered to his friends. âI knew he was just trying to get her to spill. But, God knows if the old fool knows how to use his phone to record.â
âJackie, heâs not old, thatâs really rude, and IâŠ.â
âNot the time, Sienna!â Jackie spat. âJust get your phones ready. Iâm putting mine in this plant; Iâm not leaving this to chance.â
The three friends sipped their drinks and did their best to endure the nauseating conversation âCharlotte speaking in sexual innuendo and Ethan doing his best to keep her reeled in, yet far away â as the clock ticked on.
âThis could go on all night,â Sienna complained.
âWell, the server just brought over another bottle of Dom. Sheâs either going to be passed out or signing soon. Hopefully the latter.â
Once Charlotte began to slur every third word, Ethan suggested they step out onto the balcony for some fresh air. Relishing the idea of sharing a more private venue with him, she eagerly complied. Jumping onto her stiletto-heeled feet, she lost her balance, and Ethan quickly offered his arm to assist. Charlotte rubbed against him provocatively, her hands caressing the lapels on his jacket. Plan or not, Sienna was seeing red.
âDr. Ramsey, who knew you were such a knight in shining armor,â Charlotte giggled.
âIf Iâm your knight in shining armor, you needn't be so formal. Ethan will do just fine.â
âOh, but Dr. Ramsey,â she purred, âthis all plays into my little fantasy. You canât deprive me of that.â
âIâm going to throw up,â Sienna cringed.
âNo, weâre going to follow them⊠quietly,â Jackie stated. âIf Ethanâs suffering this much, we have to at least make it worth his while.â
âBut is he suffering?â Elijah asked in a pained voice. He was standing too close, they were laughing too much, and friends grew a little warier with every Dr. Ramsey that fell from Charlotteâs lips.
âIâve got a bad feeling about this, guys,â Sienna frowned.
âAnd we canât even hear them anymore,â Elijah sulked. âSo who knows if heâs even getting any information.â
âI know,â Jackie agreed. âI hate to admit it, but Iâm getting a weird feeling too. Si, maybe you should tell Casey not to come. Weâre not sure whatâs going on andâŠ.â
âWhy shouldnât I be here?â
The three friends turned at the sound of Caseyâs voice, each one of their eyes wider than the next.
âWhatâs going on?â
âHow did you get in here?â Jackie attempted to deflect. âItâs VIP only.â
âReally,â Casey smirked. âThis dress, these heels, and the right amount of flirtation? Iâll get into any VIP lounge in Vegas. Now, what are you trying toâŠ.â
Her jaw dropped as she peered onto the balcony, catching Ethan and Charlotte inches away from what appeared to be a kiss.Â
âHe wouldnât!â she gasped, taking a step toward them, but Jackie quickly pulled her friend back.
âWeâre pretty sure heâs just trying to get information out of her.â
âEven if he is,â Casey fumed. âThis is taking it too far!â
âBut if he is and you barge out there now,  you could ruin any progress heâs made,â Jackie reasoned. âAnd, honestly, I view this as a sacrifice on Ethanâs part.â
âI donât care what you view it as! This is justâŠ.â
âIâm sorry, maâam,â the manager interrupted as the group began to attract attention. âWhat seems to be the problem.â
Casey turned to the man with fire in her eyes. âMy problem is that myâŠ.â
âCasey?â Ethan called from behind, looking mortified as he bumped into Casey with a leering Charlotte on his arm.
âEthanâŠIâŠâ her face turned from shock to rage before their eyes. âI canât⊠I canât believe you! Iâm gone an hour and⊠and this!â
âCasey, wait,â Ethan pled, dropping Charlotteâs arm. âI can explain!â
âExplain what? I have eyes! You know what,â she said as tears of frustration sprang to her eyes, âYouâre welcome to her. Just donât think youâre coming anywhere near me again.â
Charlotte yanked Ethanâs arm when he attempted to rush after her.
âWhere do you think youâre going? She has her friends. Sheâll be fine.â
âCharlotte, IâŠâ
Her eyes narrowed and lips pursed; she wasnât a woman used to not getting her way.
âLook, sheâs not just⊠sheâs⊠sheâs my intern,â Ethan breathed.
Charlotteâs demeanor changed at once. Â
âScrewing your intern? So, thatâs the intern!â Charlotte laughed. âDr. Ramsey, youâre far more naughty than I gave you credit for⊠I like this side of you. But I assure you⊠you will be better entertained by a real woman tonight. Go,â she motioned to the door. âGo chase the pathetic child. You have to make things right so she doesnât squeal, and then you have issues. Hell, give her $50 to get ice cream with her little friends, but when youâre done⊠Iâll be waiting right here.â
It took all his power to conceal the array of emotions welling inside him. It took more strength than he thought he possessed to restrain himself from telling her exactly what he thought of her. But thinking of the conversation recorded on his phone helped him keep his composure. Imagining Charlotteâs face when she realized he wasnât returning tonight gave him conviction. H could see this farce through a moment longer. Â
âIâll be back,â he lied convincingly.
âIâll be waiting,â she cooed, as she took a seat at the bar.Â
~~~~~Â
People in Vegas arenât easily phased. But even in a city where anything goes, the sight of the handsome, six-foot-four, tuxedo-clad man hurdling through the halls like he was going for the Olympic gold⊠that turned some heads.
âExcuse me,â he said as he plowed through the crowd. Concerned, but not enough to see if anyone had toppled. Only two things mattered to him now: listening to the recording and clearing things up with Casey. He was hoping she was just a better actress than he realized.
Back in their suite, Jackie and Sienna tended to their weepy friend while Elijah was assigned to the door. They all knew it was only a matter of time before Ethan showed; at least, they hoped so. So when the bell rang, the door immediately opened.
âI was wondering how long it would take you to show.â
Ethan had no time for small talk. âWhere is Casey?â
Elijah gestured toward the door leading to the east end of their suite. âSheâs over there,â he started as Ethan bolted past him. âBut, wait, Iâm not sure she wants to see you!â
Ethan burst into the parlor to find a red-faced Casey flanked by her two friends. Jackie offered Ethan a sympathetic grin, but Sienna wasnât as kind.
âYou really shouldnât be here,â her defensive friend barked, but Ethan remained undeterred. Â Â
âCasey, we need to talk. You understand I was just trying to get information out of Charlotte, right? You canât believe that I wouldâŠ.â
âSave it,â she snapped, silencing him. The fire that had been her eyes had been replaced with a steely resolve. Â
âCaseyâŠ.â
âI said I donât want to hear it! There are lines, Ethan; no matter your reason, you crossed them!â
âDo you think I wanted to? Iâd rather be mauled by tigers. But I got it!â He pulled the phone from his pocket with a flourish, but Casey remained unimpressed. âHere, please. ListenâŠâ
Casey looked at the phone lying in his palm, then fixed her angry gaze on him before wordlessly retreating to the other side of the room.
âWell, if youâre not listening,â Jackie interjected. âI am. I donât know the deal between you two, but you can sort it out later. We have bigger fish to fry. May we?â she asked.Â
Ethan unlocked his phone and placed it on the table for all to hear. Sienna and Elijah cautiously gathered around as well, but Casey didnât budge. With her arms crossed defiantly in front of her chest, she stared at the lights of the glittering city below with her back to everyone. Still, she could feel that Ethanâs eyes never left her. Â
Bryce and Aurora stumbled into the room and joined their friends at the table, curiously looking between Casey and everyone else. âLater,â Jackie mouthed as the recording began to play.
âIâm afraid I misjudged you, Dr. Ramsey. I thought you were an uptight, boring, do-gooder.â
âThatâs what you thought?â
âIt is⊠and I thought it was a shame. After all, anyone as handsome as you should never be that boring.â
âSo what tipped you off that you were wrong?â
âThe time you punched Declan! That was delicious! Iâve wanted to do that countless times!â
âSo one sucker punch was all it took?â
âOf course not! I chalked it up to some savior complex⊠still part of your good boy persona.â
âSo what changed?â
âWhen I heard about you and that little intern of yours⊠hiding Naveen, breaking every rule⊠I knew there was more to you than meets the eye.â
âThat could have been because Naveen is important to me.â
âPfft. Please! If you cared about Naveen, you wouldnât have him holed off in an abandoned hospital corridor. You wanted the acclaim, Dr. Ramsey⊠and were willing to do anything to get it. Thatâs⊠fabulous! And selecting that nubile little intern⊠well, it doesnât take the best doctor of a generation to figure out why sheâd be your choice. I started to realize I might be wrong about you.â
âYouâre more perceptive than most, Charlotte.â
âI know, and I was delighted to know you had that⊠edge. Most forget that humans are designed to thrive on adrenaline. The greater the risk, the greater the payoffâŠ.â
âI couldnât agree more. Do you know that when I was younger, before I finished my first year of med school, I bought a police radio to beat the paramedics to medical calls. I would show up and tell them I was a doctor!â â
âYou didnât!â
âI did!â
âBut what if someone had⊠died?â
âThey didnât. But it was a rush.â
âWhen I was around that age, I snuck into the Lion exhibit at the Atlanta zoo.â
âAnd you got out with your life?â
âAt the end of the day, theyâre just big kitties. Nothing I canât handle.â
âWhen I was in high school, a buddy and I filled a hundred empty beer bottles with water and sold them to a local frat.â
âIf youâre trying to impress me, youâll have to try harder! Call me when youâve increased your companyâs quarterly profits by 60% by inflating the wholesale prices of your most used drugs.â
âYouâre lying! There is no way you could pull that off.â
âWanna bet? Itâs easy. We officially price the product at ten times retail. When Medicare pays for it, they pay the full amount. And we just offer it at 90% wholesale discount to all our other buyers. But that stays between us, of course.â
âOf courseâŠâ
âWhat is that commotion inside?â
âIâm not sure.â
âWell, I donât appreciate the chaos. Why donât we head someplace more⊠private⊠Dr. Ramsey?â
âAfter youâŠâ
âHoly shit!â Bryce exclaimed after Jackie pressed pause.
 âThis is huge? Right?â Sienna asked. âThis sounds huge!â
âOh, itâs huge, all right,â Jackie confirmed.
Ethan nodded. âItâs classic Medicare fraud. This is the best thing she could have given us. The government only cares about bilking patients, cutting corners on research, or intentionally causing patient harm during election years⊠if it behooves them. But this, this will always get their attention and action.â
âItâs like getting Capone on tax matters,â Jackie chimed in.
âExactly!â Ethan concurred, âand she provided a road map. It wonât be hard to follow this trail.â
âSo what do we do next?â Aurora asked.
âI have an old Hopkins friend that works in the healthcare division at the DOJ. I trust him. I think I need to give him a call.â
âBut we need more insurance,â Jackie interrupted. âYou have your friends, but I have mine. Are you familiar with Angela DeJesus?â
âThe reporter that got those two senators indicted?â Aurora asked. âShe is badass!â
âShe is, and she was also my college roommate. She was my BFF before I met any of you losers.â
Ethanâs smile grew to double its size. âThen I think we have some calls to make.â
The mood in the suite changed visibly after the calls were made. That is for everyone except Casey.Â
âI canât believe this!â Jackie yelled as Bryce poured champagne for all.
âI can!â He grinned. âWe have the damn dream team here, and we were going to do whatever it took to get this done!â
He handed Ethan a flute, âTo the MVP!â
âThe MVP!â Aurora yelled as the other three friends turned to Casey.
Sienna placed her champagne aside and joined her friend on the oversized leather sofa. âCase, you heard the recording. I think itâs pretty obvious he was just trying to get information. Maybe you should talk to him.â
Casey glanced at Ethan, quickly lowering her eyes when they met his. âMaybe⊠but not today. Itâs been a long day, andâŠ.â
âBut Casey, I thinkâŠ.â
âSienna, I think it went too far. And do you have any idea how it felt to see him on someone's arm, kissing them⊠when Iâve had to be relegated to nothing but his little secret. I just⊠I have a lot to think about.â
âOK. But weâre about to go out and celebrate. Why donât you come along and get your mind off of things? I doubt Ethan will want to join us.â
Casey smiled softly. âI appreciate it, Si. But I really want a hot bubble bath, then I want to slip between those Egyptian cotton sheets and sleep on that mattress that will forever be out of my price range. Can you convince the others to go without me? Iâm not up for explanations right now.â
Sienna wrapped Casey in a hug. âOf course, you can count on me. Why donât you sneak off to your room now? Iâll talk to them once youâre gone.â
With that, Casey stood up and stealthily made her way to the hallway; Ethan was the only one who noticed. Again, their brief eye contact gave him no direction; he had no idea where things stood. Â
âOK, I dropped a few names and got us a VIP booth at the Hakkasan Nightclub,â Bryce grinned, âLetâs go take this party to the next level!â
âLetâs go!â Jackie hollered.
âWhat about Casey?â Aurora asked.
âUh, she may join us a little later,â Sienna informed, âbut she isnât feeling up to it right now.â
âAre you kidding? Do you know how hard it was to get thisâŠ.â
âBryce!â Sienna glared. âNo!â
âUhm, OK,â he backed off. âSo what do you say, big guy?â Bryce said, tapping Ethan too firmly on the back. âCare to join us?â
âNo, I think Iâm going to turn in. I accomplished what I came to Vegas for, now⊠I just want to sleep off the jet lag.â
âAre you sure, Ethan?â Jackie queried. âYouâre the reason we have something to celebrate.â
âTrust me,â he smiled sadly, âyouâll have more fun without me there.â
âOK then,â Sienna frowned. âBut if you change your mindâŠ.â
âIÂ know where to find you.â
~~~~~
The silence in his room was almost deafening. He didnât give much thought to how he would be spending this night, but it certainly wasnât like this. He removed his bowtie with a sigh and tossed it onto the nightstand; his cufflinks quickly followed. He picked up his phone and considered calling Casey, but he thought it best to let her be⊠for now. He poured himself a Scotch and sat at the foot of the bed with the drawn curtains covering the beautiful view he had paid extra to see. It wasnât worth taking it in alone.Â
He tried to take solace in thinking about Panaceaâs future woes, even letting out a chuckle when he pictured Declan in handcuffs. Still, the victory was shallow without Casey by his side. He just hoped this was a temporary setback, nothing more serious.
He was about to turn in when someone was furiously knocking at his door. Startled, he jumped to his feet to answer. Â
âHi,â Casey beamed, leaning seductively against the door frame. âYOU are impressive! That was some outstanding work, Dr. RamseyâŠ.â
He looked both directions down the hall to be sure no one was around, then he wasted no time pulling her into his arms.
âYou little minx!â He scolded. âDo you have any idea how worried I was? I know we discussed the plan with Charlotte, but the way you were acting⊠I thought I was in the doghouse for sure!â
âIâm just that good,â she bowed. âI needed to make it convincing, and if I convinced you, then hopefully I convinced the others too.â
âIâm impressed,â he exclaimed as his lips fell to her neck. âButt youâre still going to pay for what you put me through.â
âOh no!â Casey yelled, pushing him away. âI may have to suck up knowing where those lips have been for the benefit of greater society â but there is no way those lips are not touching me until theyâve been rinsed with acid! Have you rinsed with acid, Ethan?â
âWould Scotch suffice?â
âAbsolutely not!â Casey asserted as she plopped onto his bed. âGo brush your teeth, use half a bottle of Listerine, and burn your toothbrush! After that, weâll talk.â
Ethan turned and chuckled, more than content with the view of her sprawled across his bed.Â
âWeâre going to do much more than talk, Rookie. Iâll be back.â
When he returned from the bathroom, Casey had set up champagne for the two of them to toast. The first thing Ethan did was open the curtains so they could share the view together, and it wasnât long before they found themselves locked in a lingering kiss.
âSo youâre not mad at me?â he asked, still needing reassurance.
âAre you kidding? You brought down the evil empire!â she teased, âDo you have any idea how sexy that is?â
âI donât,â he smirked, âbut you could always show me.â
âOh, I plan to,â she sang, tossing herself back onto his bed. âAre we going to celebrate?â
The devilish look in her eyes and seductive smile was replaced with a look of concern when Ethan didnât immediately follow.
âWhatâs wrong? Youâre not pulling another Miami on me now, are you?â
âNeed I remind you that we already broke this room in?â
âNo,â she blushed, âI remember it quite well.â
âItâs just that⊠weâre in Vegas. Iâm all for returning here for private debauchery later on, but we should go celebrate in style.â
âBut we just staged this whole quasi-breakup so my friends wonât think weâre together. We canât just go mingle in the casino now.â
âIâm not sure if youâre aware, but there is more than one casino in Vegas.â
Casey tossed a pillow in his direction. âIâm aware, smartass.â
âWe can head to the Palms, Downtown⊠I doubt the crowd from this convention will be there when theyâre being spoiled for free here. And Bryce got your cohorts a VIP booth at Hakkasan. They wonât be leaving. That means you and I can go out and have fun⊠like a real,  regular couple. What do you say?â
âA real, regular couple,â she giggled as his lips were back at her neck, dragging down to her collarbone, his tongue gliding across her chest. âThat sounds good, but you better stop it if you expect me to leave this room.â
âWhat?â He teased. âIâm just giving you a taste of what will be waiting for you when we get back. But what will you tell your friends?â
Casey sighed warily. âThey know a few of my friends from med school are here for the conference, and I can tell them Iâm going to see them and convince them Iâm staying with them for the night. Itâs justâŠ.â
âJust?â
âI hate lying to them like this.â
âI know, baby. But itâs not forever.â
âI know. But tonight,â she said, jumping to her feet. âTake me out and show me a good time, Dr. RamseyâŠ.â
âIâm going to show you a good time, all right, but⊠just for tonight⊠can you lose that Dr. Ramsey? Just for tonight. Iâm having flashbacks.â
Casey smiled the brightest smile, and it was one he would never forget. âYouâve got it. Now letâs go!â
Ethan and Casey snuck down to the lobby and slid into a limousine he ordered.
âYou know an Uber would have done the job just fine, right?â She winked.
âYes. But weâre celebrating, remember?â Handing Casey a flute of champagne, he grinned. âItâs a big day; I want to go all out.â
âConsidering this is our second bottle of champagne in twenty minutes, I think weâre off to a good start!â
And off to a good start they were, but it was only that⊠a start. Already drunk in love, neither was prepared for just how amazing it would feel to be out together. Alone, unencumbered, free to hold hands to kiss, to flirt⊠the rush was much greater than they expected. Casey happily sat on Ethanâs lap as they played the slot machines.  Partaking in more bubbly, the two giggled and kissed ferociously until they earned harsh stares from fellow casino goers.Â
âCome on, itâs VegasâŠâ a tipsy Casey protested. âThis is legal here!â
The next stop was the tables. Ethan wanted to show her how to play, and she was eager to learn. First up was roulette, then baccarat. They switched to martinis and attempted to keep their hands off each other as they played. But in time, keeping their hands off each other proved too great a burden. They found a quiet but still public corner of the casino floor, and the joyously inebriated couple began to make out like teenagers. Completely forgetting where they were, Ethanâs hands started landing on places they just shouldnât in public. They were so enraptured with each other that neither noticed the security guard who had been summonsed to reign them in. Only parting when he gruffly coughed to get their attention. Â
âOK, you two⊠you should probably take this back to your room. You canât be doing this here.â
âBut itâs VegasâŠ.â Casey whined.
âYes, it is,â the guard laughed. âBut we still have rules.â
âWeâre sorry,â Casey couldnât stop giggling as she apologized. âWeâre just⊠weâre celebrating.â
âI see that, but you still canât do that here. Come on, kids, take it back to your room.â
Caseyâs giggles turned to full-on laughing as she shoved Ethanâs shoulder.Â
âHe called you a kid! Heâs drunker than we are!â
Exiting the casino floor, they swerved and swayed down the halls, intent on making it to the Rojo Lounge. After all, they figured they needed more drinks. Plus, they were sure they could find a dark corner to get frisky in without a guard ruining their fun.
âItâs OK,â she insisted. If her cheeks hadnât already red from alcohol, theyâd be red from embarrassment right now. âIâm fine,â she said, trying to save face. âOnly my legs got wet.â Taking off a shoe, she tilted it to empty water, and Ethan started to roar with laughter.Â
Thatâs when they noticed their old friend. The security guard from the casino was wrapping up his shift in the lobby. Â
âLook, kids⊠didnât I warn you? Are you staying at the hotel?â
âYes,â Casey slurred, âWe are staying at a hotel.â
âNot a hotel, young lady. This hotel?â
Ethan shook his head vigorously, âNo. Not this one.â
âDo you know which one youâre staying at?â
Ethan stretched his arms wide, nearly striking a passerby in the process. âA big one. A really, really big one,â he laughed.
Casey found it hysterical and began laughing, too, then she fell back into the fountain again.Â
âOK, thatâs it!â The guard barked. âFun time is over.â
âNo,â Ethan leered. âFun time starts when we get back to our room!â
Somehow they ascertained that they were staying at the MGM Grand, and the kind but increasingly frustrated guard got them in a taxi and sent them on their way. The two of them hung out the windows waving to him as they left⊠and that is all they could remember.Â
~~~~~
They never drew the curtains again, and while the view was just as beautiful during the day, Casey was not in a place to appreciate the sun. Lying on her stomach with her head at the foot of the bed, she groggily moaned as he attempted to raise her head. Her blonde hair was beyond unkempt as it shot in every direction, and the last thing she wanted to do was get up. But if she didnât block out that sun, she was quite convinced that she would die.
So, with much effort, she sat upright and dangled her legs off the side of the bed. Ethan was still passed out, looking peaceful, without a care in the world. Casey attempted to smile before deciding it was too painful. Using the wall to prevent herself from falling, she made her way to the window and successfully pulled the curtains shut.Â
She made a mental note to figure out some things later. Like why they were both partially dressed.  Why they were lying in different directions in bed. But, most importantly, what was this crap falling out of her here. But right now, none of that mattered. She needed to go back to sleep.  Â
What she wouldnât give to have the ingredients for her special hangover cure in his room. Since she didnât have that, she decided some Advil and water would help soothe her pounding head. She dropped the contents of her purse to the floor and found the bottle she needed. She walked to a table in the corner of the room and poured herself a glass of water when something caught her eye.
She adjusted the lampshade, so the light wouldnât shine directly in her eyes as she gingerly lifted a piece of paper from the table. Confident her eyes were still too blurry to read, she blinked, hoping to get a better look. She blinked again, then again when she realized no amount of blinking would change what she saw.
âOh my⊠GodâŠâ she gasped. âNo, no, no, no, no, no, no!â
This had to be a joke. Something they picked up in a souvenir shop. There was no way⊠then she saw another sheet of paper that appeared much more official than the decorative one she held in her hand. Her hangover was suddenly gone, replaced with a headache that made the pain she was experiencing before pale in comparison.
âETHAN!â she rushed to the side of the bed, shaking him vigorously when he didnât stir. âEthan! You need to wake up. RIGHT NOW! Something⊠something has happened.â
Ignoring her, he pulled a pillow over his head, muttering a string of unintelligible words. Becoming irate, Casey yanked the pillow away.
âIâm not joking! Something terrible has happened! We need to talk!â
âRookie,â he groaned. âIâm very hung over. How terrible are we talking? Because if itâs less than a 9 on a scale of 1-10, it can wait.â
âOh yeah? Well, how is a 200 on a scale of 1-10? Get up, NOW!â Â
âFine,â he grumbled. âOW!â He cried, bracing his head as he sat up. Casey lovingly handed him a cup of water and two pills.
âHere,â she sighed. âTrust me⊠youâre going to need this!â Â
âDid we murder someone?â he asked facetiously.
âNot to my knowledge.â
âOK, then how bad can it be. Let it out.â
âWhat do you remember about last night?â
Ethan's eyes opened wide, then he shut them again, rubbing them as he continued. âYou may need to give me a few⊠but the last thing I remember is that guard shoving us into the car at The Palms. Why?â
âWell, thatâs the last thing I remember, too. I assure you,â she quivered, shoving the two documents into his hands. âI donât remember this.â
Ethanâs eyes opened like saucers, and it was now his turn to be instantly cured of his hangover.
âWHAT!â He gasped. âWe⊠we didnât?â
âI mean, it would explain the confetti on the floor, the birdseed in my hair, and that bouquet on the floor.â
âWhat⊠what did we do?â
âWell, we may not remember it⊠but it looks like we got married.â

Just a personal plea...
If for any reason at all (no questions asked), you are unable to participate after signing up, please message me as soon as possible! Every secret pal/admirer/exchange event I've hosted always has had 1-3 people not follow through which leaves me scrambling to create for those people's matches at the last minute. I'm happy to do it, but I hate feeling rushed and not having time to think about it properly. Plus, if it can be avoided and matches reassigned I would rather do that. So if you go on hiatus, need a break, or life is just to busy (or whatever the reason) please just keep me updated. I'd so appreciate it!
For @choicesficwriterscreations Holiday Event 2022
The green item was clutched tightly in her hand, she stood on her tiptoes and hung it above her head, attaching the mistletoe with some tape.
Footsteps echoed throughout the house as Ethan walked down the stairs. Victoria stood in the doorway, waiting for his arrival.
âYouâre up to something.â He narrowed his eyes with a laugh.
Victoria looked up which made Ethan do the same. He rolled his eyes when he saw the mistletoe. âSeriously? Thatâs what youâre doing?â
âItâs a Christmas tradition! Kissing under the mistletoe is very important.â Victoria said.
Ethan reached up to touch the object. âItâs plastic.â
âAnd?â
âItâs not real. If you want to kiss me under the mistletoe, then youâve got to use real mistletoe. Iâm not kissing you otherwise.â Ethan said as he headed into the kitchen.
âSo you donât want to kiss me?â Victoria asked.
âThatâs not what I said Rookie.â
âSure sounds like it.â Victoria shrugged.
Ethan couldnât hide the amusement on his face. âI am more than happy to kiss you at any moment. But when it comes to mistletoe, it has to be real, otherwise in my opinion it doesnât count.â
âYouâre so annoying, do you know that?â Victoria rolled her eyes.
Ethan laughed. âYes. And you love it.â
âI couldnât find any real mistletoe in the shops.â
âWell then, no mistletoe kissing for us this Christmas.â Ethan grinned as he turned the oven on.
Victoria huffed as she walked into the kitchen. âWould you still give me a kiss anyway? I could do with one.â
Ethan chuckled as he pulled her into his embrace and cupped her cheeks in his large hands. âGladly.â
Victoria scoured every shop Boston had to offer, seeing if there was any place that did real mistletoe, so far she hadnât been lucky.
Ethan was being so annoying by telling her she needed real mistletoe. She knew he found the whole practice ridiculous and that he was taking great pleasure in how annoyed she was. It was like he was doing it on purpose.
He was sure she wouldnât be able to find real mistletoe considering how popular it was. She was determined to find some so she could prove him wrong.
Victoria headed into her last shop, praying that they had what she needed.
âHello there maâam. Is there anything I can help you with?â A shop assistant said with a friendly smile.
âDo you sell real mistletoe? I tried to get my husband to kiss me under some yesterday but he said it didnât count because it wasnât real.â
The woman laughed. âI have the same problem with my husband. Heâs very particular like that too. Iâm glad itâs not just me that has to deal with that.â
âItâs so annoying. Iâm determined to prove him wrong though.â
âWell youâre in luck because we do have some. Itâs very popular but thatâs to be expected.â The woman guided Victoria to a shelf.
That will wipe the smirk off of his face Victoria thought.
âThank you so much! I canât wait to see his face later on.â Victoria grinned.
âYouâre welcome. And happy kissing!â The woman laughed as she walked away.
Victoria grabbed the item and paid for it and then headed out the shop, ready to prove Ethan wrong.
Victoria hung the ornament above her head and patiently waited for Ethan to get home. He was convinced she wouldnât have been able to find real mistletoe but here she was, stood with it hanging above her head. And Victoria couldnât wait to tell him.
She heard the car pull onto the drive; the car lights shining brightly before being turned off. A shadowy figure approached the door, putting the key in the lock before the door opened.
Ethan, looking rather grumpy stepped into the warm house. âHow long have you been standing there?â
âLong enough to be able to prove my point.â Victoria replied.
Ethan set his bag down and took his shoes off. He walked slowly to Victoria, the smirk on his face widening with every step.
He reached up to grab the item, his eyes widening when he realised she had found real mistletoe. âIâm impressed. I didnât think you could pull it off.â
âIâm surprising in many ways.â Victoria grinned, wrapping her arms around his neck.
âI agree. Now I believe I owe you something.â Ethan said.
âYou do.â Victoria smiled.
Ethan laughed as he leaned in and Victoria met him half way. They stayed that way for a few minutes, their lips fused together as they held onto each other tightly.
Ethan was the first to pull away. âOur first Christmas as husband and wife.â He smiled.
Victoria rested her forehead against his. âThe first of many.â
âI agree, but only if it can be like this every Christmas going forward.
Victoria pressed a quick kiss to his lips. âYouâve got yourself a deal Mr Ramsey.â
Ethan can be very particular when he wants to be lol

You matter. Your health matters. How you feel matters. Don't let anyone make you feel any differently. You are worthy of rest, care, and happiness just as you already are.
So, I should show my WIP file to my therapist right now - she'd be like "Yeah, the ADHD meds might need a little adjustment." lol And she'd be accurate.
Here's a list of what I've got coming up. Anything in orange has a Sunday Six/Sneak Peek below the break.
Friends 6 - Finale / T/C will be out by this Tuesday
Vegas Part 3 / E/C will be out by Saturday 10.15 no fic preview because y'all have already seen enough, BUT I have a sneak peek of an art commission associated with the chapter below.
Grandparents Day 3 / T/C will also be out by Saturday 10.15
4 Halloween Requests 3 for E/K and 1 for T/C, are in the works
The first Delaying the Inevitable: What If... is in progress, and t is for this ask: Ethan & Casey find their way back to each other many years later (aka Elsa's other version lol)
3 Smut Fics - one for each pairing - will be up before the end of the month in honor of smutober/kinktober - whatever you want to call it, lol
Tobias & Casey's HC I'll be focusing a lot on this since I want to get their wedding up by their "Wedding Date" of November 12th because... mental health issues. lol So After Grandparent's Day 3, I'm going to loop back to their HC - which will take us to the chemical attack.
Wake the Dead, I think I'm going to start at the start - shorter fics to expand on canon. As I progress, I think I'm going to write a different ending - one my HC and the other a really angsty AU.
TWO UPCOMING MINI-SERIES:
RESET - Ethan x F!MC, Ethan x F!OC, Other pairings, and
WHERE IT GOES FROM HERE - Tobias x F!OC, Tobias x F!MC (Past)
These are both in the works - but I have decided that I'm not putting either up until they are fully written. Then, when I post them, it will be one chapter a week without break. I think that's best for my readers and me. :)
I told you - it's a dark and scary place...
Friends 6 - Finale / Tobias x Casey (F!MC)
"You know," Jake laughed, "I totally thought the two of them were a thing when we met."
"Wait!" Claudia exclaimed, "How did you and Casey meet?"
"At s Sox game...."
Tobias's eyes met Casey's for a brief second before she turned away, the look on her face left him desperate to stop the exchange. "It's not important..." Tobias interrupted, but Jake continued.
"... I was sitting behind them, and she impressed the hell out of me. No man in his right mind lets a woman this smart, this beautiful, and who knows this much about our hometown heroes getaway. That and the way they bantered... plus she never called me after... so I assumed..."
"We covered this before," Bryce interjected. "We all did."
Delaying the Inevitable: What If... / Ethan x Casey, Tobias x Casey
"Do you ever hear from him?" she whispered.
"Tobias?" Ethan asked, an array of emotions awash on his face. "No...it's been... years. Hardly at all since he left Boston."
"I'm sorry," she lamented. "Sometimes I feel like... you know, never mind."
"No," he replied, instinctively grabbing her hand as if he feared she would disappear. "I want you to continue. Casey, we have been able to talk about anything except him, and I think that should stop."
"Why bring up bad memories, Ethan? How does that help either of us?"
Their Start, Chapter 10 (T/C HC) / Tobias x Casey
He rushed through the halls with conviction, he had to see her. His heart refused to accept that she could be gone within days... within hours, the thought too painful to conceive. But he was a doctor and he knew her chances, and they were slim. If she were a patient he'd convince the family to pray for a miracle... but he didn't think miracles were real.
Losing her would be unbearable, but if she left this world before he could apologize, before he could atone and let her know the regret that was eating him inside, that he could not bear. He had to see her.
But as he came to a quick stop before the glass that was her only view into the outside world, his pounding heart went still.
"Casey..." he muttered, his voice but a painful plea... this was a mistake.
Wake the Dead Unnamed / Eli x Zoe (F!MC)
He sat in a darkened corner, removed from the rest under the guise of keeping watch. And keep watch he did, for drones, of course, but also over this cluster of strangers he found himself inadvertently aligned with. All the years of voluntary solitude, solitude he instituted for his very survival, was relinquished in an instant. He expected to be angry, enraged, making plans to find his way off on his own... but instead, he sat watch over a group of people he didn't even want to know but somehow felt responsible for.
~~~~~
She had wanted to sit by the window, and he was baffled that she wouldn't listen to reason. In spite of everything, she had seemed to be so sensible before. But that was their first scuffle on the first of many nights they were now bound to spend together. It wasn't safe, and he wouldn't take no for an answer.
Grabbing a blanket, she turned away from him and sat on the floor, her glassy eyes focused on a large painting of a meadow. She was almost entranced. That's where he had left her hours before, so he was shocked to find her still there, gaunt, pale, almost unrecognizable from the woman he saw in action that day.
He should keep walking. There was no reason for him to stay. No words he was required to offer. But he found himself standing over her; she didn't so much as flinch.
"The others are already asleep." He stated the obvious. His voice was heavy, almost robotic in tone. Several moments of silence hung and started to turn away.
"The others didn't lose their sister today," she croaked.
He shut his eyes and turned his head away, even as he moved several steps closer.
"I know. And I know you may not feel it now, but you'll be OK."
His voice was cold, yet somehow comforting. She didn't know how, but she knew he understood.
"I know," she said with a deep sigh. "I'll be fine by the time the sun rises. I have no choice. There's work to be done. But right now, I don't have to be OK."
So, I should show my WIP file to my therapist right now - she'd be like "Yeah, the ADHD meds might need a little adjustment." lol And she'd be accurate.
And keep watch he did, for drones, of course, but also over this cluster of strangers he found himself inadvertently aligned with. All the years of voluntary solitude, solitude he instituted for his very survival, was relinquished in an instant. He expected to be angry, enraged, making plans to find his way off on his own... but instead, he sat watch over a group of people he didn't even want to know but somehow felt responsible for.
She had wanted to sit by the window, and he was baffled that she wouldn't listen to reason. In spite of everything, she had seemed to be so sensible before. But that was their first scuffle on the first of many nights they were now bound to spend together. It wasn't safe, and he wouldn't take no for an answer.
Grabbing a blanket, she turned away from him and sat on the floor, her glassy eyes focused on a large painting of a meadow. She was almost entranced. That's where he had left her hours before, so he was shocked to find her still there, gaunt, pale, almost unrecognizable from the woman he saw in action that day.
He should keep walking. There was no reason for him to stay. No words he was required to offer. But he found himself standing over her; she didn't so much as flinch.
"The others are already asleep." He stated the obvious. His voice was heavy, almost robotic in tone. Several moments of silence hung and started to turn away.
"The others didn't lose their sister today," she croaked.
He shut his eyes and turned his head away, even as he moved several steps closer.
"I know. And I know you may not feel it now, but you'll be OK."
His voice was cold, yet somehow comforting. She didn't know how, but she knew he understood.
"I know," she said with a deep sigh. "I'll be fine by the time the sun rises. I have no choice. There's work to be done. But right now, I don't have to be OK."
Hi! Iâm sending this around; please feel free to join in the fun, but no obligation at all!
Ethan something, and then Eve yells:
âYou couldnât even pay me to do that!â
Ethan: âNot even for me?â
Eve: âNot even for you!â
What did Ethan say to start this exchange?
"It's December 1st, Ethan. Not for you, not for anyone." Eve said, crossing her arms.
"You mean to say, for the next 25 days you'll be playing nothing but..." he looked disdainfully at the speaker, "... holiday music?"
"Yes."
"In our apartment?"
She froze, the our catching her unaware. It was their apartment now, no longer Ethan's place but she'd only moved in a few weeks ago and it still felt new and unfamiliar.
He noticed her hesitation immediately.
"I could turn it down?" she offered gently. "And maybe find some Christmas opera, something you like?"
She picked up her phone but a firm hand grasped her wrist and enveloped her in a warm embrace.
"Not necessary," he whispered, "I'll like what you like."
"You're making my head hurt."
"I don't want you to do that."
"Yes. No. I don't know."
"What are you doing?"
"You're looking, but you don't see."
"Are you serious?"
"I don't think this is your problem."
"Do we have a deal?"
"There's only us."
"I never said that."
"Who said this is a good idea?"
"Not on my watch!"
"Is this safe?"
"You know I'd do anything."
"I'm doing it, shut up."
"That's not why we're doing this."
"We all have our reasons."
"You love this, don't you?"
"I know what this looks like."
"I'm not alone and neither are you."
