Um, yes, I am questioning the words of an editor, especially when they are wrong in their translation. Editors are quite capable of making errors too, I don’t understand what’s hard to comprehend about this. They are human too. But besides that point, this particular editor is Kaname biased and for anyone who doesn’t believe that, all you need to do is look at her Twitter account, it’s very blatantly clear. Now, I’m not saying that she isn’t entitled to like what character she wants to, but as a professional it is her responsibility to put any character favoritism aside and translate the manga properly. There is no excuse for distorting the mangaka’s words. Either translate it true to the actual text or you shouldn’t be an editor if you feel the need to make up things to suit your own agenda. Honestly, I’m not even a Zeki or Yume, just someone who enjoys reading all types of books and manga. I feel this is a slap in the face for anyone (Yume or Zeki or anyone in between) who enjoys reading manga. We rely on the professionals to translate things properly so we can get a clear and honest understanding of the characters and situations. But what happens when we can’t even get an accurate translation from the pros because they feel the need to alter the words for one reason or another. I understand that a lot of Yumes, if not all of them, don’t mind this and obviously it’s because the editor is Kaname biased, so it fits their ship. But let’s say that she translated something that was Zeki biased or Zero biased that was completely wrong, Yumes would lose their minds. So perhaps if you are a Yume, I understand that this does not phase you in the least, but as a reader in general this should bother you. Who knows what other mangas are being mistranslated? It isn’t right! Perhaps I’m in the minority with my opinion, but I just feel it’s wrong to allow people to spend their money on translations that may be skewed or mistranslated. I mean I would always want to know exactly what is being said regardless if it works in my favorite character’s benefit or not. Hino Matsuri could finish her manga with Yuki saying she only ever loved Kaname and if that’s what she says, I want to know that she said that, regardless if I happen to love Zero. I wouldn’t want an editor to flip Yuki’s words around to benefit Zero if that is not what was written. And the fact that as soon as my friend questioned Nancy on her translations in a non-bullying manner, she was blocked, tells me even more so that she knows she translated certain things improperly. Whenever anyone questions her about the translations, all she does is redirect the question to pirating scanalations and never answers the actual question. It kind of feels like she likes to point fingers at others who may be doing something wrong to take the heat off her own back. But as I said before, if the only way people knew these translations were skewed was by pirated scanalations, then yea, she can point fingers, but the fact of the matter is, you don’t need to read pirated scanalations to know that certain translations are off. I have a Japanese friend who pointed it out to me and that’s how I came to know of this issue. I’m only trying to make everyone aware of this matter, whether you are a Yume shipper or a Zeki shipper or neither, I feel everyone should know that what they read may not be very accurate.
