When she had heard about the betrothal, a deep-seated fear surfaced that Iris wanted to desperately shove back into its little box. But it kept coming back up, lingering in the background until she was alone and could be completely occupied by the very fear of which haunted her during her Hogwarts years – arranged marriage.
Though in this case it wasn’t her own but rather her brother’s. The news bought too much cheeriness to the Parkinson house but she doubted Arturo was as excited as their parents. Actually she knew he wasn’t. And now that their parents found someone for Arturo, Iris was indefinitely next to be paired off.
She found him in the family living room and gently patted his shoulder in greeting before sitting in the chair across from him. “At least the girl is pretty.” The brunette offered despite knowing whatever she said couldn’t possibly make the situation any better. Arturo raised an eyebrow at Iris, looking over the Daily Prophet crossword puzzle. His engagement was all the media could talk about. He was used to seeing his face, and the faces of his family on the front page of magazines and news papers, but this felt different. It was personal. The headline was big, and the picture the news paper chose to use made Arturo and Emmeline looks posh and happy: neither was true.
As his eyes met his sisters, he couldn’t help to smile. Iris keen mind was something that Arturo enjoyed. It was obvious that they were two powerful families; however, the Vance family were not at the same social class as the Parkinson name, his fiancée’s connections were valuable. Sometimes, buying connections wasn’t as easy as knowing the people in the right places.
“Très exact,” Arturo put down his quill and paper and lifted his teacup to his lips. “I’ve been trying to get this squirrely MP to pass the wand core bill... More connections in the house will only benefit us.”
