My Crohn’s story After a long 15 months and finding out I have Crohn’s this is the result of a long wait. Spent the year in and out of hospital having tests before diagnosis then an abscess was found which is still there now. Unfortunately it is hard to remove and it’s a waiting game for me. No one sees this disease on the inside. The only thing you can see is the 4 stone I’ve lost. These shorts are a small and they drop off me. Food is not the problem though I eat plenty. I love food! But keeping it in is hard. Taking in the nutrients is hard. The battle still goes on but not without a fight 👊🏼

Daily life with Crohn’s

Living with Crohn’s can be tough and unpredictable. People may only see the struggles with pain and bathroom breaks. What they don’t see is the constant need to rest, the days sitting watching tv series when you would rather be out with friends. The missing out on days because there’s not enough energy to get up. The stay in days because you can’t face going out in case something happens. The days turn to weeks, months and some days get better then some get worse. It’s about managing and noticing which days are which. But... the good days have to be taken and lived to the full because living with Crohn’s can be tough .. unpredictable.

Daily moments

While I currently suffer with a pelvic abscess I still try to do things I want or what I can.. recently it’s been fine, even though I know it’s still there but within a day it feels to have filled up and it is painful to sit and to move with walking. Tonight I’m sat alone after being ready to go out with family and had to drop out at the very last minute.. it’s sad and depressing but when you feel uncomfortable from illness sometimes it’s the best thing to do is to give yourself a rest.

Everyone who doesn’t suffer won’t understand that rest time is needed, when you called boring, lazy, miserable it’s not because you are, it’s because the feeling of having this illness makes you tired, lifeless and weak. Not everyday is like this but sometimes people need to understand that these days do come but then they go again.

Daily moments

Pain is slowing me down today, walking and sitting is a bit of a challenge but it won’t stop my daily routine. Hydro therapy has helped a lot with my mobility and my leg that has no calf muscle is getting stronger. Having days of pain with my stomach and th Crohn’s but we power on!! Ten months of being poorly I’ve been so down and lifeless to being positive and wanting to fight back!!

It’s a hard illness to overcome and the bad days make you want to curl up and let the world eat you up! But the good days make living an achievement! Being able to have a good day with chronic illness is what healthier people take for granted! Trips out and days doing activities with less struggle brings the happiness out!

I’ve been poorly for the whole year and I still will be poorly through to 2018 but this is the time for me to get up and kick back! Life has kicked me in the face over and over and now is the time I fight back!

What people don't understand about crohns.

As a recent crohns sufferer I've noticed all the problems which come that are not all about the bathroom.

Yes. Stomach pains and bathroom breaks are a nightmare, including pain when eating food (when you love food!) but there so much more that no one gets!

Arthritis pain (which I had already before being diagnosed)

The throat sores, sore gums

The chest pains and burning sensations

The eye sores, itchyness and pain in the eyes (which is bad when you have make up on!)

The gut pain

The extreme tiredness, fatigue

Sickness feeling

Weight loss

The abscess (my pelvic abscess is a pain in the ass! - literally!) 😂

An so on! People don't see of feel the struggle so they don't really know what daily life is like!

Daily moments

Today has been a good day! Aches and pains but nothing to complain. I've learned not to complain as I know just how bad the bad days can be. People don't understand the difference when you look fine everyday. But not everyday is fine.

The good days mean something even if you do nothing productive.

Daily moments

Today has been an easier day. With having a pelvic abscess it's extremely painful but today it has eased off and I've been able to sit down without pain. Had stomach pains which have shortened my day with my friend but I still managed to see them. Feel slightly queasy and poorly but has been bearable to carry on with the day. First daily entry. See what tomorrow brings!

@ people with disabilities that dont affect them greatly or every day

you are still disabled

your struggles are still valid

just because you arent sick all the time, it doesnt mean you arent sick.

just because you dont have many limitations, it doesnt mean you cant vent about the limitations you do have, because if your illness takes away even one experience/ability/feeling from you, its already taken too much.

dont let people invalidate you because you arent as “disabled as you could be”, because you are disabled, come @ them if they try to tell you youre not.

dont feel like you shouldnt be upset that you have this illness, just because it doesnt always affect you, or doesnt constantly affect you, it doesnt mean it doesnt affect you.

please dont feel like you have to constantly prove youre disabled, and if you do, remember that you are disabled, and you do have hardships and that you deserved to be believed.

I am so sorry you have to go through this, you shouldnt have to.

and above all

youre important and your issues, whether they be small or large, are important.

you matter.
