A daily reminder that Rabbit is canonically a black belt in karate and could have dealt with the predator problem from day 1 if he JUST locked in, but instead used his martial arts training as a way to vent during his birthday because... *checks notes* his daughter and his best friend gifted him thoughtful gifts to help him relax and make him comfortable.

Author's notes: And we're finally beginning this story guys! Due to my schedule, especially because of my IRL work, I've decided to focus on a few pages at the time and cut my chapters in multiple updates, as a way to keep the pacing constant enough (provided nothing gets in the way...). It will also allow me to work on other stuff like fanarts on the side, if I need to take a break from the fan comic. Nevertheless, I'm really excited to finally be able to share it with you!

Fair warning, there is comedy but the story goes into dark places at times, and focus on heavy themes such as grief, past trauma, and other stuff that will get their trigger warnings when the time comes. So be aware of that!

So, with the Discord's server contest coming to its end, I would like to share with you all the three entries I participated in! Due to the fan comic I'm cooking and my IRL work, I unfortunately couldn't do the seven entries, so I only picked the three that inspired me the most, meaning I have a lower chance at winning compared to those who did all of them. But that's okay! Because the server is preparing something very special with all the submissions anyway ;)

With that say, here are the entries!

Summer: I live near the Mediterranean sea, so I really looked forward to make this one! It took me a whole day, sitting in front of my screen under the summer heat... Would not recommand.

2. Fashion: An excuse to draw Rabbit in Clyde inspired clothes. Something about him wearing that leather jacket in "Terrapin's hot date" changed my brain chemistry... (He's not happy about this fashion choice.)

3. Pride: This one was rather important, even if I kept it simple. For some people it takes a lifetime to get out of the closet safely. In the year 2001, after moving away from his abusive family, meeting his new out-and-proud mate and discovering a bi flag that didn't exist when he was young was now available, Wolf eventually got there and is about to enjoy his first Pride Parade!

Fox's mother this, Wolf's father that... And nobody wants to talk about Rabbit's mother and the implied wholesome relationship she had with her son?! A crime, I say! She's the only grandparent with a canon design and there's one whole episode dedicated to Rabbit wanting to help Lucy go to a musical school and achieve success becoming a trumpet player, because it was his mother's dream but she never got to achieve it. (Whether he's projecting or truly doesn't want History to not repeat itself is up to debate!) And the ending? The damned last seconds of this episode I accidentally skipped the first time I watched it? Heartwrenching, I want to throw up. How dare you make him hug the radio like that when his mother's tape is playing? How old was he when she passed?!

I'm begging you if you haven't seen this episode yet, here's the link! It's in Finnish and the only english translation available right now is from the auto caption, but people on the Discord are actively working on a better one!

Dear DETN fandom, it is with great pleasure that I announce my upcoming fan comic project to you!

This is merely being drafted as I'm posting this little teaser, but the key scenes are already fully shaped.

Due to my work schedules however, I must warn you that it will take some time to post each updates once it begins. So please be patient with me as I'm juggling between my responsabilities!

How do you think Simon and Barry would be as older brothers if they eventually got a baby brother or sister? lol

At first they'd be upset, partly because they think babies are bothersome (they stink, all they do is crying, ect.) and partly because they fear their father will start to neglect them, with babies demanding a lot of attention.

But with lot of reassurance they'd then shift their stance and engage more with their little sibling and realise hey! Babie are actually a lot of fun! Simon already being the eldest sibling, he would be the first to take a liking to the new member of the family. Barry would be a bit jealous in the first weeks, not being the baby of the family anymore, but then he'd embrace his new role as a big brother.

They'd be the fun kind of older brothers, bringing their little sibling into their shenanigans, but not the protective one. In fact, I can see the little one inheriting the only braincell of the family and ending up being the one to get out their big brothers out of trouble lol!

The first time I knew about Don't Eat the Neighbours was because of your art. After that, I needed to see what the show was about. I found this fandom, and I really like your art and headcanons. I was wondering what your headcanon is for what the characters do for a living?

Hmmm, interesting question. To be honest I see most if not all the adults being jobless lol! But for different reasons:

• Fox doesn't need to work because he's rich. He straight up tells Rabbit he's a billionaire (EDIT: or millionaire, but either way he's loaded) in one episode. Who needs to work when you're already set up for life thanks to a (probable) family inheritance?

• Wolf recieves a monthly paiement from the Brotherhood of Wolves to stay out of Canada (that's how much they don't want to have him there !) Just enough to go by if he budgets it correctly. But I see him taking little odd jobs like mowing the lawn or cleaning someone's house to earn an extra and buy gifts for his sons.

• Rabbit is more complicated for me. He's got a nice house and doesn't seem to be struggling financially, but he still steals cabbages to feed his family and claims that if he doesn't, they'll all go hungry. So he doesn't work, but probably is recieving allowances to help raise his three kids. He probably also got a bereavement payment after his wife's death (never disclosed to anybody, of course) which helped a lot in the first few years as a widower. But like Wolf he needs to budget it carefully.

• Terrapin might do some odd jobs like Wolf from time to time (EDIT: Apparently he sells ice cream, or used to, as someone pointed out in the comments), but I think his money mostly comes from his twin Colin, who must be loaded since he's a Hollywood superstar, and thus sends his brother whatever he might need. (To add with what I said about Rabbit, since Colin seems so close to his family that Lucy calls him an "uncle", he probably send them money too when they're in the need).

• Bear is of retirement age, but even so he seems to be the kind of person who doesn't see any real value in money. I see him as someone who travelled the world all his life and didn't settle back in England until he was too old to continue. He gathered spiritual riches instead of material and is now mostly living of the earth of his garden.

Since the show is happening in England, the kids should be wearing uniforms when going to school. Obliviously, the reasons the show runners did not bother to make the puppets wear any was to save either time, money, or both. (Probably also because a canadian team worked alongside on it and they wanted to avoid confusion for the kids from countries where uniforms are not mandatory).

I've been thinking about doing more fancomics in the future, but also wanted to stay true to the UK's uniform's rule, so consider this mostly personal researches for potential stories happening in school!

After hours of work, it's finally here! This comic is a deeper dive in my headcanon/theory that Peter and Emily are adopted, due to many elements that couldn't work together if they were biologically Rabbit and his deceased wife's children (follow the link for a more detailed post on this!)

I've made this comic in webtoon format and saddly it may not be the best quality on Tumblr, hence why I urge you to download the pages or to read it on my DeviantArt page were the quality is much, much better!

Some notes:

As said in a previous post, I'm using the names from the french dub, one because I'm French myself, and two because I really like them and it makes better sense for the adults to have real firstnames too.

Throwing another headcanon that Lucy has some Scottish ancestry from her mother's side. She's got the attitude, at least!

HEADCANON TIME!

Emily and Peter are not, in fact, Rabbit's biological children.

As I kept watching the show I noticed some details couldn't simply add up if the twins were Rabbit's bio children. In "Lucy Blows her Top", Lucy muzes that, as one year and a half babies, they shouldn't already be as agitated as they are. In the same episode, Wolf confirms to us, the audience, that its has been canonically around a year since he and his sons moved to England. Which means when the first episode aired, the twins were only at most six months olds. All of this doesn't add up with what we learn about Rabbit's late wife in "Barry Loves Lucy", in which we discover he's been lying to Lucy about what happened to her mother. She would not have buy that her mother stayed in Canada to live in a moose farm unless she was very young when Rabbit told her, and thus more naive (probably around three, four years old). Plus, in "Action Rabbit", he indicates to Terrapin that Lucy "grew up without a strong female figure". Once again, it points out that it has been years since her mother passed away. It would not make sense otherwise to use those terms if only six months had passed until the moment the first episode takes place. But the one little bit that actually fed that headcanon the most is how Lucy asks about her mother: "Dad, where is my mother?" Not mum. Not our mother. My mother.

So, combine all of this aaaaand the new question is why in the world would Rabbit, a widower and single father, adopt two baby rabbits (especially when he already struggles to connect with his daughter) ?

My headcanon is that this is a kinship adoption, one that Rabbit reluctantly agreed to because the only other option would be to send the twins to foster care (which, in his opinion, was even worse). I'm working on how exactly Rabbit and Lucy are biologically related to them, but I like to think Rabbit is a cousin to one of their bio parents.

(There may be a comic coming to expend a bit on all of this...)
