I’ve been wonderful, and you Emme?
I'm not too bad myself. School's great, apart from the drama that went on over the last few weeks. I hope Peter's alright...
Emmeline Vance! I hope you don't have any plans for the upcoming Hogsmeade weekend because Mare and I are planning a girls day and you're invited. Really though, it's more of a demand than a request... because I'll kidnap you if I have to.
You won't have to kidnap me, Lily! I'd love to join you all. I wouldn't miss it for the world!
emmeline & dirk | WALK IN THE PARK.
Students flooded out of the classroom talking excitedly among themselves while still eating pieces of Horace Slughorn carrot cake. The older gentleman in his early thirties slapped a large hand against Dirk Cresswell’s back hard, causing the sixth year Hufflepuff to fall forward slightly. He rubbed the back of his neck turning around while fixing his shoulder bag on to greet his favorite Professor with a kind smile. How’s everything, Cresswell?Dirk smiled, shrugged his broad shoulders while adjusting the strap of his bag on it. “Okay, Professor,” he said giving him an embarrassed grin staring down at the floor.I’m sensing a little more than okay, the man chuckled giving him another firm pat on the back. Dirk fell forward for the second time, he smiled once more running his palm through his chocolate curls of hair. He shrugged his shoulders for the final time watching as the man hurried behind his desk, filing some parchment on his desk with a wave of his wand. “Honestly, Professor, there isn’t anything new going on,” Slughorn chuckled before giving Dirk a quick wink. It’s alright, Cresswell, you don’t have to tell this o’fart. How’s the Gobbledegook?Gobbledegook was a language Dirk had picked on his second year at Hogwarts. Unlike the majority of witches and wizards around the school, Dirk was probably the only one at Hogwarts who could speak it fluently. It had come second nature to the Hufflepuff. “Well,” he started to say thinking over the question as he rolled his eyes up towards the ceiling. “It’s alright, I think it’s going alone quiet greatly. I just wished there was someone I could practice it with, you know?” Slughorn nodded grabbing a silver flask out of one of his desk drawers. He opened it up taking a swig as he flashed him a small smile. Perhaps tomorrow we can practice,he offered. Dirk gave him his last nod fixing his bag strap once more, “Sure, Professor,” he waved, “Goodnight.”Goodnight, Deidirek.
Dirk left the classroom, closing the door gently behind him. The young man huffed, taking in a large breath. Slughorn could be a handful but luckily Dirk was one of his favorite students and welcomed him as if he was his son. It was nice to have someone on your side, especially one that was adult. Dirk walked down the corridor, his footsteps echoing loudly on the marble floor as he turned the corner towards the staircase leading out of the dungeons. The Hufflepuff was tired, his back ached and he was hungry, carrot cake, although delicious it never satisfied his stomach. It grumbled with hungry causing him to stop mid-step. He wrinkled his nose turning his head towards the kitchen, perhaps a late night snack would do. He turned on his heels walking the opposite direction.
Dirk Cresswell, a friend to many yet so little knew of him. He kept his self and was rather good at being a wallflower. His closest friends truly knew him and loved his loyal, trusting, and geeky behavior. Dirk had very few enemies unless you counted the Slytherins, but they hated everyone who wasn’t pureblood. Many saw his blood status as unfortunate but Dirk saw it as a blessing, it meant he wasn’t ordinary, he wasn’t just one in a million. Even his older brother was a little envious of his magical ability and Dirk was normally the one who was always jealous of his older, handsomer, smarter, and married brother. He had never told anyone but Dirk secretly wished to be married to a beautiful woman who was more than happy to have his children. It was such a girlish fantasy, he knew this, which is why he never mention it to anyone. Although to complete a dream like that he’d had to find a woman to look at him first. Dating was Dirk’s strongest suit and although he liked to date around, he was more of a long lasting relationship guy. Of course he wanted to wait until after Hogwarts to discuss the idea of marriage to anyone.
He walked around the final corner, stopping abruptly feeling something warm and soft squish in front of him. A soft gasp escaped his lips as he took a step back rubbing the spot on his chest that was hit. It was a girl, a pretty, dark haired, pale skinned girl with a book in her hand. Dirk smirked, her nose buried in a book it always seemed. “Hello, Emmeline,” he greeted her fixing the front of his robes. “Are you alright?” He asked taking a step back. Emmeline Vance, a bookish Ravenclaw whom he got along fairly well with. “I didn’t see you there,” he admitted holding out his hand offering to carry her books.
By some miracle of timetabling, Emmeline finished classes early that day. As soon as she'd finished her only after lunch lesson - a particularly boring hour of History of Magic (really, how Binns managed to make wars and assasinations dull was beyond her)- she'd practically ran up to Ravenclaw tower. That morning she'd recieved the weekly letter her parents sent her, detailing the events surrounding her six-year-old brother Felix's lastest Quidditch accident. Apparantly he'd only broken his arm in one place this time, which was easily fixed by their talented father. The most exciting part of the letter, however, had not been the letter at all, but the shiny new book her father had attached. She'd only just finished the last one she'd read, so it was a stroke of luck that she'd gotten a new one straight away.
Unfortunately, she hadn't had the chance to start it before school, so that was why she hurried up to the Ravenclaw girls' dormitory's and almost pounced on the book, which was sitting right where she'd left it on the end of her messily made bed. It was a muggle book by some famous muggle author she'd been wanting to read something of for a while now - Walter Vance always seemed to remember exactly what his daughter had said she'd like. Emmeline lay comfortably down on her bed, curled up on her side, and began.
After a while, though, she realised that pretty soon the rest of classes would end and her housemates would be back to the dormitory as well. And, well, as much as she did love the other girls to bits, she knew that all the noise they'd make would mean having to be interrupted from reading. She sighed and glanced outside. It was a nice day out there - a few clouds occasionally, but no cold wind or anything else pertaining to bad weather. So as soon as she heard the first few voice coming up the stairs, she scooped up her book and a jacket and set out to find a new reading spot.
Emmeline found herself somewhere down near the kitchens when she bumped into someone. She jumped, startled, almost letting out a little squeak but fortunatly stopping herself at the last second. She mentally cursed herself for not paying attention to where she was walking. Looking up, she saw that the person she'd ran into was was a Hufflepuff called Dirk Cresswell, a boy who she'd never really spoken to that much but always had thought seemed to be a nice guy. She'd heard that he had a few interesting talents - such as being able to speak Gobbledegook fluently. That in itself she found rather intriguing, being someone who liked clever things like that. She'd read about the language a few times, but never had been able to pick it up herself. "Oh, hello Dirk! I'm fine, really. Sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going." She smiled apologetically at him. "I should really pay more attention."
Oh, why that sounds like a lovely offer.
You're welcome. How've you been lately by the way?
an-arrogant-toerag replied to your post: I think this might be one of the last sunny days...
Emmmme!
'Lo there, James! You're welcome to join me if you like.
I think this might be one of the last sunny days before winter hits. So studying outside it is!
-Sighs internally knowing Emmeline’s words wouldn’t counteract the potions effects- … Regulus… Though I’m pretty sure the whole school knows by now…
I wouldn’t be a terrible nun! Would I? I mean I’d have to stop swearing. I could do that! Wait no. No I can’t. Bloody hell! I can’t even be a nun anymore!
Er...Regulus Black? -she raises her eyebrows, suprised- Wow...
Exactly. You should just be Amelia. I like Amelia, not Sister Amelia. Sister Amelia wouldn't be as amazing.
It’s true! Peter likes Charity! Did you know that? I can’t even be mad at Charity, because she’s Charity! No one could ever be mad at her, unless they’re wankers! And the other one, well that’s a whole different story! He would never like me! He practically hates me! So I’ve decided to become a nun a sad lonely nun! No one wants nuns anyways, so it would be just like me!
...Who's the 'other one'? -she asks curiously, before she remembers the potion. Her eyes widen- Wait, no, don't answer that! You don't have to answer that!
Amelia, you're not going to be a nun. You'd be a terrible nun. There are plenty of people who'd want you, and you're still young! There's plenty of time to find someone.
I’m going to be alone forever. -Sobs into her jacket- At least I’ll have my firewhiskey.
-her face softens and she gets a bit worried now- Oh, come on, Amelia. That's not true!
Who do you love most at Hogwarts?
That's a very hard question, actually. It would depend on how specific you were with the word 'love', but I guess I love my friends, so I'll say them. There's not really anyone I love more than anyone else, though.
Get me firewhisky to drown my sorrows? -Sobs lightly being melodramatic-
-chuckles slightly- Well I suppose in the state you're in, alcohol can hardly make you any worse.
MFK : Avery, Mulciber, Rodolphos.
Ergh, they're not my favourite people in the world, as I'm sure you could guess. This is purely hypothetical because I'd never so much as look at those creeps unless with a death stare.
M: Lestrange.
F: Avery.
K: Mulciber.
Do you ever go commando?
It's hardly any of your business, whoever you are, but no.
You wouldn’t trade me would you? Before you met me, you had a stick up your arse!… Sorry.. Potion speaking.
Of course it was me! It was sheer genius after all! I know you secretly like telling me that…
'A stick up my arse'? Very eloquently put, Amelia.
-she shakes her head, eyes rolling- What in Merlin's name am I going to do with you?
Sirius or Regulus?
Sirius. His brother seems a bit, er...snobby? And Sirius is much more open minded, in my opinion.
Are you in love with the Potter lad?
Um...oh. Well, James is nice. He's a good friend, I'd say.
But, er, 'love' might be going a bit fast, don't you think?
