just saw a post about how All Binging Is Valid No Matter How Many Calories
but hereās the thing. YES, the feeling of loss of control you get from a binge is valid whether you ate 3000 calories or 800 in one go.Ā
BUT restrictive EDs like ana or mia or EDNOS are COMPETITIVE.
We donāt talk about this because itās not attractive.Ā Itās not cute and pleasant and validating.Ā
But most people with eating disorders Iāve met online and irl want to beĀ
The Thinnest.Ā
The Sickest.Ā
The Most Restrictive.Ā
So when someone says āomg I bingedā, theyāre talking about losing control and feeling awful. Theyāre communicating the Emotional Experience of binging.Ā And itās important to reassure and validate the fallout from those emotionsāNO MATTER HOW MANY CALORIES.Ā
But when someone saysĀ āomg I binged on 200 calories!ā theyāre telling their followersĀ āmy meals are all under 200calā. Itās part of the competitive eating. Itās a way of saying How Low Their Intake Is and getting sympathy while bragging AND triggering other people. And that is not okay.Ā
If you want to complain about a binge, please do! Tell us about your day! Or even tell us that youāre upset even though your binge was low calorie! Tell us about your feelings.Ā
But when all yourĀ āBingingā posts specify a calorie intake, itās alarmingly clear that youāre less interested in getting much-needed validation for your binge and more interested in normalising a specific number asĀ āan unacceptable intakeā that qualifies as aĀ ābingeā.Ā
Binging isnāt about medical definitions or numbers. Itās about a complete, dissociative loss of control. But letās stop pretending that we donāt use all those numbers to make each other more and more sick. And thatās a kind of insidious pro-ana i donāt want to be a part of.
One more time for the people in the back
