It’s extremely fucked up that some ppl try to make you feel stupid and immature for hoping for a better world. You say you want world peace and mfs think you need a pacifier; dawg, I just don’t want ppl dying from violence. This idea that ppl simply must die as casualties of war is misanthropic to say the least.
forgive the version of you that didn’t know what to do and could not have foreseen what the right choice was, if there even was one. forgive the version of you that made a choice and regretted it.

Other Info:
⛵ Nehalennia is the only one to wear her distinct pereline, or short shoulder cloak. No other Goddess has been found who wears it. The significance is not known, perhaps it was a local way of dress.
⛵ There is a rebuild temple in Zeeland on Colijnsplaat. A square roman building painted an earthy orange inside and out. Inside are several historical pieces displayed, as well as a large stone statue that often has offerings in front of it. In "het Archeon", an open air historical re-enactment museum, there is also a small shrine to her, as well as another replica of her temple where they hold daily rituals in her honour.
⛵ The Dutch paganfolk band Heidevolk has a song called Nehalennia, as does the band Twigs and Twine.
⛵ She is the most well known local Goddess of the Netherlands, and many things are named after her: from archaeological magazines to viaducts.
⛵ In 2019 the Dutch contestant of Miss Universe wore a blue dress completely made of trash fished out of the sea. It was called Nehalennia and made in honour of the Goddess.
Prayers:
Deae Nehalennia (in Dutch)
In de kolkende golven hoor ik Haar stem.
Nehalennia
Haar wind speelt door mijn lokken,
Haar zilte zegening raakt mijn lippen.
Deae Nehalennia.
Zij die de storm trotseerd, en sterker er uit voorvloeit
Zij die de weg laat zien en onze reis bewaakt
Zij wiens woede schepen ten onder doet gaan
Zij wiens tedere omhelzing rust en vreugde brengt
Vrouwe Nehalennia,
Kracht van de Noordzee
Hoor mij aan!
Want ik ben Uw dochter,
Uw gezoute water stroomt door mijn aderen
Uw storm raast door mijn lijf
Uw kracht en diepte heb ik geërfd
Moeder Nehalennia
Hart van de Noordzee
Wees met mij!
Deae Nehalennia (in English)
In the churning waves I hear Her voice.
Nehalennia
Her wind plays with my locks,
Her silten blessing touches my lips.
Deae Nehalennia.
She who faces the storm and flows from it, stronger
She who shows us the way and guards our journey
She whose rage causes ships to perish
She whose tender embrace brings us peace and joy
Lady Nehalennia,
Power of the North Sea
Hear me!
For I am your daughter
Your salted water flows through my veins
Your storm rages through my body
Your strength and dept I inherited
Mother Nehalennia
Heart of the North Sea
Be with me!
Nehalennia chant
Stuurvrouw, Oogstmoeder,
Vrouwe van de Zee.
Ik drijf if uw golven,
Draag mij met u mee
Steerswoman, Harvestmom,
Lady of the Sea,
I float in your waves,
Lady, carry me
Stuurvrouw (Steerswoman), Vrouwe van de Noordzee (Lady of the North Sea), Wildmother
Meaning name Nehalennia
We're not really sure what the name Nehalennia means. She was honoured in an area that covers Roman, Briton, and Germanic tribes and peoples, so even her origin is unknown. Several theories of meaning are:
"recently caught" or "recently salted" - from "Net hael inne". (Huygens)
"new market" - from "ne halle" (Claude de Saumaise)
"to give food", "to provide" - from "Naera-Laena" (Laurens Pieter van de Spiegel)
"Goddess of the sea" - from "Neach Lenn" "exalted sea" (Marquis Du Chasteler)
"Virgin of sorrow/sadness" - from "Neh al Léan" (Eloi Johanneau)
"night, friendly moon-Goddess" - from "Neha-Lennia" (D. Buddingh)
"spinning Goddess" - from "Nera" or "Nere" meaning spinning (Grimm)
"pouring, gifting" - from "Neihen" or "Neehan" (H. Kern)
"Lady/Mother who envelopes/enrobes" - from "Neha Lenn" (H. Hardenberg)
"mist/fog" - from Proto Indo-European (PIE) *nebʰ- (wikipedia)
"spirits of the dead" - from Greek "nekués" and the PIE "nek-e/o" "to bring death" (wikipedia)
"leader", "steerswoman", or "She who leads a ship safely over sea" (Gijsseling)
This interpretation is considered most likely, new information and spellings literally surfaced, helping Gijsseling come to this conclusion.
The Surfacing of Nehalennia
In 1647 in Domburg, Zeeland, the remains of a temple were found. Inside it, they discovered votive stones dedicated to a local Goddess: Nehalennia. Back then there wasn't really a historical society, and preserving the cultus of a pagan Goddess was not a priority. Some of the stones were moved to a church, where they were displayed underneath the stairs, with a leaky roof. Other stones were used as lawn ornaments for a rich proprietor. After a lightning strike the church burnt down, and the stones were lost. Many of the stones who had been on the lawn were irrevocably damaged.
But Nehalennia was not ready to be forgotten. On the 14th of April 1970 fisherman K.J. Bout found some strange stones in his fishing nets. He could have tossed them back, but instead he realized the value of these stones. He contacted the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden who sent a representative. While waiting, Bout fished up more stones, and part of what looked like a temple. Bout made his ship available for several diving trips, and over 240 votive stones surfaced.
Many of the stones depict a woman, sitting on a throne, or standing with one foot on the bow of a ship. She wears a very distinct pereline (a short shoulder cape), and holds a basket filled with apples, pears, and breads. Standing next to her sits her loyal dog companion. Most of the stones also hold an inscription, thanking Deae Nehalleniae for safe travel over sea. From the inscriptions we also learn that many of the people who made an offering were traders, hailing from Italy, Cologne, Brittain, Trier, and southern France.
Through this magnificent find, we have learned a lot more about our "local" Goddess Nehalennia.
Over the years, more votive stones surfaced. Found in Trier, Cologne, Tongeren, and even some that might be Nehalennia in Brittain. All stones and remains have been dated to be between 150-250CE, and worshipers all come from a large area that encompasses Gallia Belgica, Germania Inferior, Germania Superior en Britannia. Even though Nehalennia is clearly also found outside the Netherlands, us Dutch people have laid a claim on her. Especially since two of her temples have both been found in Zeeland, she is seen as a local Goddess, and one we are very proud of.

we were meant to live slowly!!!! we were meant to savor moments and feel unabashedly lazy and frolic and smell the flowers and laugh with our entire hearts and love with our entire souls!!!!! don’t ever feel guilty for resting!!!!!! don’t ever feel guilty for slowing down!!!!!! enjoying life shouldn’t be something you’re ashamed of
In 1647, votive stones and the remains of a temple to Nehalennia were found in Domburg. In 1970, more votive stones as well as remains of another temple and a statue were found in Colijnsplaat. Of the votive stones, only a few were able to be dated, they come from the years 188-227 CE. With over 200 votive stones total, two temples and more inscriptions than any other Dutch deity, she is the most well documented deity from the Netherlands.
Inscriptions about her were made by merchants and seafarers with Latin, Celtic and Germanic names. As a very local goddess, she was acknowledged by people of any culture that came to the places where she was worshipped. It is unclear whether Nehalennia herself is of Celtic or Germanic origin.
Nehalennia is typically depicted wearing a short shoulder cape, with a basket of apples or bread and often a cornucopia. Marine animals and ships are common, as well as a dog at her side.
2. What does it mean?
• Her name: Since her name could be both Celtic or Germanic, there are different theories about its meaning, but the most common one is "the one by the salt water", translated by Patrizia de Bernardo Stempel
• Her cape: No other deities are depicted with this cape and there isn't a conclusive answer as to what is means. It could be a local way of dress
• Apples, bread and the cornucopia: These are all common symbols of harvest and fertility
• Marine animals and ships: There are clearly symbols of the sea. Together with votive stones from merchants and seafarers, which were offered to Nehalennia for "the good storage of wares" and "the ships", they indicate that she could have been a protector goddess of trade and ships/seafaring
• Her dog: This symbol is regarded as somewhat of a mystery, theorized by some to symbolize the underworld or the sea itself. The best interpretation is likely as a symbol for vigilance and protection
Unfortunately there isn't as much information about Nehalennia as there is about some more well-known deities, such as many Greek deities, so a lot of these meanings are only theories.
3. What exists today?
Nehalennia is the most well-known Dutch goddess, but most Dutch people don't know there are Dutch gods at all.
However, there is a reconstructed temple to her in Colijnsplaat, which was built in 2004. There is another one in the Archeon in Leiden. The two original temples are now underwater.
There is The Oracle of Nehalennia by Bela Sìol, which I have been trying and failing to get my hands on.
In the Netherlands there is a school named after Nehalennia, as well as a garden. There's also a sailor moon character.
4. What do I think?
I wanted to talk a bit about upg and my own personal view of/experience with Nehalennia.
I find Nehalennia to be kind, but firm. She's very loving, but will not hesitate to be honest and even harsh when she needs to be. I also see her as very protective.
She's a goddess of trade, harvest, journeys. Of the sea. She understands change and how difficult and how necessary it can be. She is the one that guides you and protects you when you go through it. That's definitely a way in which she's helped me a lot.
When it comes to veneration, these are some of my methods:
• Prayer. I've written a few prayers to her, but there's one that's stuck which I say every time I pray. I personally use prayer beads as well
• Offerings. I give her apples and various dutch cookies. Salt water on her altar is maybe more of a representation than an offering, but I think she enjoys it either way. I also find that she enjoys when you take the time to make something for her, whether that be prayer beads, dedicated jewelry or a poem
• A spot on my altar. I mostly have blue and green and teal items, some sea shells, prayer beads, offerings. I think just making that space for her is important to me and my connection to her
• Swimming. I don't live near the coast and I'm really not one for indoor swimming pools, so I don't actually swim very much, but when I do, even in a lake, I do feel close to her
I am a practicing witch as well as a pagan, but I don't actually work with Nehalennia is spells very much. She helps sometimes, and helps a lot outside of my witchcraft practice, but it's not a working relationship. It is a give and take, but it's not in the form of trading her assistance with a spell for and offering.
5. That's it!
I hope that was interesting! This is obviously just a starting off point and a little introduction. If you're intrigued, please do your own research! If you speak Dutch, I really recommend goden van eigen bodem, which is a website that has tons of info on Dutch deities and folkloric creatures!
Aphrodite isn't called Pandemos (of All People) so you can sit around and let the big names capitalise love and serve it only to those who can afford to pay past the persecution. Hermes isn't called Oeopolus (Shepherd) so you can sit around and let a bunch of power-hungry wolves lead a flock of influencable sheep. Apollo isn't called Paean (Healer) so you can sit around while wealthy corporations serve healthcare only to those who can afford not to die. Athena isn't called Ambulia (Counsellor) so you can sit around while the people are being fed propaganda against each other to divert them from the real enemy at the top. Dionysus isn't called Eleuthereus (the Liberator) so you can sit around while freedom is only granted to those whose skins have the acceptable colour while the others die in chains. Zeus isn't called Xenios (of the Foreigners) so you can sit around while the borders are closed to those who need it and only open to those who can give back the money.

I'm Amal, 33 years old. My husband Eyad is 39, and we have seven children: Hala (15), Nour (13), Abdelrahman (11), Mohammed (9), Omar (6), Ahmed (4), and baby Hoor, just 7 months old.
Hello,
I'm Amal, 33 years old. My husband Eyad is 39, and we have … Amal Alanqar needs your support for Hope and Safety for Amal and He
In the blink of an eye, we awoke to a devastating barrage of bombs. The war had begun, and soon tanks surrounded us as the northern Gaza Strip was declared off-limits. We fled immediately from the north, leaving behind my husband who had to stay with his elderly father who cannot walk. The presence of checkpoints and the prohibition of vehicles forced my husband to remain in the Al-Zaytoun neighborhood in the north of Gaza.
My four-year-old son, Ahmed, suffers from diabetes. It is a constant struggle to find insulin injections and test strips. Weeks go by without being able to check his sugar levels, leaving me in fear of whether his levels are too high or too low.
Ahmed's condition break my heart
My children are the love of my life
I fled on foot, just ten days after giving birth. I carried my ten-day-old baby and my other young children, alone, fighting for their safety. A few days later, the northern Gaza Strip was completely isolated, leaving my husband trapped.
I cannot bear the panic attacks that Hoor suffers from the constant bombing
It was incredibly difficult to care for my children without my husband, moving from one place to another. I finally sought refuge in a shelter school in Deir Al-Balah.
My children have been deprived of their father, who used to provide all their needs. Their schooling has been halted, and their mental health is in ruins due to the war. My baby girl cannot get proper nutrition and is unable to sleep due to the constant sounds of bombs.
We share our room at school with 40 people, lacking water and sanitary supplies
My husband remains in the north, experiencing severe famine. Periodically, I manage to contact him, learning that he is still alive, but his situation is dire.
We want to escape Gaza and survive this tragic war, to build a decent life for my family, providing the basics of life: food, medical care, and a safe home.
Your donations can make a world of difference for us. Every dollar can help us escape this nightmare and start anew. Your generosity can reunite our family, provide essential medical care for Ahmed, and ensure my children grow up in a peaceful environment.
