Birth Story
My sweet baby girl came in a whirlwind, which considering that’s how I fell in love with my husband it only makes sense that’s how our baby decided to come into the world.
On Sunday July 12th, was just a regular day. Me, the kids and my in-laws went to watch the community theater production my husband worked backstage at before we went out to a delicious Thai restaurant for dinner. I decided to order something not spicy just in case what my husband ordered was too spicy even though we ordered it not spicy at all (which it ended up being spicier than we’d expected).
A little after 1 am I woke up went between my legs. I honestly wasn’t sure if I peed myself a bit or if my water was breaking/leaking. I went to the bathroom, changed my underwear and went back to bed. I couldn’t fall asleep and googled of course. I get back up after 10 min and of course I felt wet again. I went to the bathroom, put on a pad (it was now a little bloody & I KNEW it was my water)
So at 1:30am I woke up and told my husband hey I’m pretty sure my water is breaking, time to go to the hospital. I wasn’t feeling any contractions, I wasn’t in any pain but thankfully the hospital bag was already packed & so was my kids overnight bag ( they were going to stay at my in-laws). My husband called his parents, so we could take our kids and dog down there but his mom said she’d be at our house in 5 min. True to her word (it was probably less honestly) as I was waking up Allie, my mother in law was ringing the doorbell.
My husband and I headed to the hospital, we were joking around in the drive there. I told him I was feeling fine and not feeling any contractions, just my back was hurting a little but it had been hurting all the time this pregnancy.
By the time we go to the hospital and got all checked in at labor & delivery it was about 3 am. I still wasn’t feeling any contractions, got hooked up to the monitors. By the time they did an ultrasound and checked my cervix I was already dilated to 3.5/4 cm. I’d told the nurse doing my intake my only birth plan was that I’d wanted an epidural. My husband and I were laughing, joking about everything, funny stories, tiktoks etc. until about 5:30 I started to feel contractions, enough to where I was told my husband oh I’m feeling them now, by 5:45 they were getting strong and we decided to time them. They were about 2-3 min apart already, by a few min after 6 am my contractions were strong and about every 1 1/2 min apart and I told my husband that they were hurting more but I kept feeling pressure like butt pressure which I was concerned about. we called for the nurse by the time she came in & checked me it was around 6:20ish. My husband held my hand as they did another cervical check between contractions which were now so so close together. I was about to start crying it was hurting so bad I said I wanted the epidural. The nurse called/told the doctor someone I’m not even sure because I was in so much pain. I was already dilated to 8 cm. They rushed me from the triage room I was in to the birthing room around the corner. They checked me again and said I was actually dilated to 9cm they gave me fluids but told me I probably wasn’t going to be able to get the epidural I was now crying I wanted.
Thank God for my AMAZING husband who kept calm, helped me breathe and let me squeeze the ever moving crap out of his hand. I know I was crying, saying I couldn’t do it etc. at first they told me not to push but then a couple min later they said I was dilated to 10 cm and I was going to push soon. My sweet, calm husband told me I could do it, he helped with my leg, let me squeeze his hand as I pushed for only a few min before our beautiful baby girl was born. All natural, no epidural and our baby was born at 6:52 am.
I didn’t think I could do it, it was so painful but I cried with relief when they put her on my chest. I lost quite a bit of blood that the dr was concerned about. They did this massage/pushing on my belly and since I didn’t have an epidural was honestly super painful. I also had really high blood pressure readings when I was in active labor and actively pushing. There was also a very high reading when they were doing the massage to help stop the bleeding which I was still in pain for. But they’d labeled it as preeclampsia even tho me (and several of my nurses) all said and think the high readings were pain related. We stayed 2 nights in the hospital due to my blood pressure, right after birth they gave me magnesium & blood pressure medication so they wanted to take my readings every few hours over 2 nights.
It’s so bittersweet having our last baby but she’s perfect and we couldn’t be more in love with our sweet, beautiful girl.
