I haven't really gone. I've just spent the last nearly five years in a very niche corner of Tumblr. Tumblr communities tend to swallow people whole.

I mostly come back when I get an email notification that a p0rn bot is following me so I can dispatch it post haste. I stayed to scroll a bit and it's nice to see some of the same folks are still here posting the same familiar things.

The world's changed A LOT since I was last here (2019!! fucking hell), but in some ways this part of the world hasn't changed at all. There's comfort in that.

Small but mighty

I sometimes have people express their feelings about my tiny car. About how safe it would be. That they would feel unsafe in such a tiny car. I will admit, there’s not a lot of extra room in a Fiat for impact. And I honestly think that the engineers who designed it kept that in mind. 

But how does it hold up in a collision. What if I were to be hit by something much bigger, i’d be crushed right? I’ve heard this enough times that I didn’t discount the possibility myself. And when I was rear-ended yesterday by a large black pick up truck (city street, not highway, but at a considerable impact speed), I was immediately convinced that my trunk space would be concave, completely pushed in. This would be the end of my little blue car forever and I would be completely fucked. 

But as you can see, the damage is minimal. Imagine my absolute shock at walking to the back of my car in tears and finding this instead of chaos. I didn’t even notice the dent at first. At first glance it looked like it was completely unscathed. The bumper has a couple of gouges and scrapes and a puncture. Bystanders were agog and asked to take a photo, no one would believe them otherwise.

The truck... it didn’t do as well. My car didn’t move at all on impact, had my foot on the brake. It was as if the truck had hit a rock, and the grill and radiator paid the ultimate price. I am still able to drive my car, the truck needed a tow. I’ll never know if it was even repairable, but it didn’t look good gushing fluid as it pulled into the parking lot behind me. 

So next time someone tries to tell you that small cars are not safe, show them this photo. Thank you Fiat for designing your cars to be small but fucking mighty. 

And yes, I am okay. Stiff, but completely okay. Both of us were able to walk away from this and that’s the important part.

LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK: Women who don’t want or can’t have children are still fully valuable whole people!

My mind is brimming with carriage wit. I need to get it out. I witnessed a horrible person at my local grocery store YELLING at a bakery department employee. Because there isn’t a human being behind the counter literally every second of the day. I could hear her loud and clear halfway down the frozen food isle. She was making a scene because she had to wait a few minutes for someone to come write happy birthday on a cake. This woman just lost her shit at this poor woman who makes minimum wage. Screaming that she'd had to wait 20 minutes (not true, I heard the customer service page on the intercom and not two minutes later this woman was losing her mind). Anyone who is willing to stand in front of a bakery counter *when it’s clear that no one is behind the counter* for 20 minutes without asking for assistance deserves what they get anyway, but I have real doubts that she waited more than 5 minutes. Here are all the things I wish I'd said:

"Hey there loud mouth, can I ask where you work? I want to come by your place of work and yell at you in front of co-workers and other people about how long it takes for you to do literally ANYTHING. Would that be cool with you?"

"[Bakery person] I'm terribly sorry that you have to put up with this horrible human being who probably voted for Doug Ford. You should get a raise. In fact, if you tell me who your manager is, I’ll tell them that you’re amazing."

"Do you feel better now, horrible excuse for a human? Now that you've berated a person who was probably on a break that they are entirely entitled to? Yeah. I hope you choke on that cake."

And on and on and on... I caught a glimpse of her again in the check out and I gave her such a stink eye. I’m not over it.

Be Nice To People in The Service Industry. It’s not hard. It’s the easiest fucking thing in the world. A polite smile and a thank you is literally easier than having a shouting aneurysm over a fucking peanut butter birthday cake. 

Nope. Not over it.

It’s been years since I started writing fan fiction. I remained loyal to my precious and nearly entirely dead fandom and another that doesn’t even really exist. My two greatest works have been available and have very slowly collected hits and kudos over the years.* And I assume this is just what it’s like. So many posts go by chastising readers for never commenting and I often agree because a comment or a kudos seem so rare.

I write one little, one-shot fic for The Umbrella Academy and it has nearly as many hits and twice as many comments and kudos in less than 24 hours than my greatest work has achieved in literal YEARS. 

So, this is what it’s like to write for an active fandom. Well then.

*To be fair, I did receive an absolutely wonderful comment on one of said old fics a few weeks ago and it was one of the nicest things to find in my inbox, really and truly.

Another orbit around the sun

So that was 40. Didn’t seem so bad. Made sure it started with a bang. I made some pretty fantastic art both visual (photography), written and theatrical. Spent  more time doing things that *I* love. Created some amazing memories that I’m still cherishing — hello London, England. I miss you!

Still giving a giant FU to looking my age, to hell with that bullshit. I aim to continue that trend for as long as my body wants to, really. This is no where near what I thought 40 and beyond would be like. Not even a little bit close. 

And as it turns out, it’s not the end of the world. Somehow, I always feel like I’m just getting started.

i have 2:

1. the time my nursery school teacher sent my progress report home with good marks and a note that read “anais never starts fights, but she always finishes them.”

2. when i went through a phrase of saying “i hate” (i hate my sister, i hate the dog, i hate school, i hate etc etc), my mom decided to try positive reinforcement. “if you don’t say ‘i hate’ today, you can have a treat after school.”

now a treat could mean anything from a piece of candy to a gochapon toy etc. i looked her in the face and said “i hate treats.”

she damn near lost her shit. she then offered me a my little pony if i refrained all week, and i agreed.

at age 4, i was a better negotiator than most politicians.

A post I made several years ago that literally no one is looking at anymore got flagged as potentially adult content. Wanna know what it was. My post about donating blood for the first time. Yeah. That. There were two photos one of the first time donor sticker on my shirt and the other was my arm with the tube taped to my wrist. Nothing gory, no nudity. But flagged as adult content. What the hell Tumblr? 

... would I like to appeal it?? Of course I will. Not because anyone is even looking at it anymore, but because you need to learn how to not be morons about this. Jesus.
