Melanie Martinez's Creativity

I will never understand how people hate on Melanie Martinez or call her music "weird" because she's the most creative artist and such a lyrical genius. (Despite the allegations that have resurfaced over the years, I like to separate the artists personal life/drama from their career.)

Lets take my favorite song "Mrs. Potato Head" for example. The song might have a silly title but the song itself has such a deep depressing meaning. Mrs potato head is a kids toy that was once popular that had had the ability to remove and add different facial features to alter the appearance of the object. Just how in the real world, people buy makeup and get plastic surgery to alter their original appearance to fit the beauty standards. " All you need's a couple more condiments and a hundred thousand dollars for some compliments". Again, lyrical genius.

That is exactly why I love her music so greatly. Instead of just flat out singing what she believes she uses metaphors and similes. Mostly all of her songs are told through metaphors. (Dollhouse, Orange juice, Training wheels, Tag, You're it, Spider web, etc.) I could go on forever about her music and how creative, different, and alternative she is.

Same! Her creativity in all her songs are amazing, and not only is she amazing with lyrics but she also paints a story when filming her music videos.

Her music videos show us yet another way to interpret and relate to the music 💕
