Made a bluesky 🦋 come follow me on there 🙏🙏🙏
My friends who have never experienced flooding, and who are about to deal with it from this storm, please remember:
1. NO. YOU CANNOT MAKE IT THROUGH THAT WATER ON THE ROAD. I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU'RE DRIVING. TURN. AROUND.
2. DO NOT GO WADING THROUGH THE WATER. EVEN IF YOU JUST WANT TO SEE HOW DEEP IT IS. THAT. WATER. IS. CONTAMINATED.
3. IT IS CALLED FLASH FLOODING FOR A REASON. THE WATER RISES AND SURGES IN A FLASH. STAY. HOME.
4. If you're at risk of flooding, raise up any of your belongings now. Put the legs of tall things in buckets. Know where your important documents are.
5. Stay safe.
Folks who currently think of hurricanes as mostly coastal wind events really need to understand how catastrophic water is.
It is cliche, but "hide from the wind, run from the water" is absolutely true.
Storm surge at a certain point will try its best to kill you and anyone foolish enough to try to rescue you while it's still raging. EMS hunkers down and you are on your own. Multiple agencies are using "you will die" language that I haven't seen since Katrina.
Inland river flooding can easily wash out roads, total cars, and wreck the lower level of buildings. And what's worse is that you might not see the effects of inland flooding immediately, so you think you got off easy with just a few squall lines.
And now this particular storm is of such an enormous size, that I am seeing flash flood and mud slide warnings from the Appalachians.
This is not going to be a "once in a lifetime" storm. I've lived through multiple of those now and I'm 47. Weather events like major hurricanes are going to increase in intensity, frequency, and range and folks need to learn how to live with and avoid these hazards.
Please listen to your local emergency ops folks. It isn't worth it to be outside until everything is calm and the water has receded. You have no idea what kind of (literal) shit is lurking under all that, with electrical hazards being a top threat. A good chunk of people who die or get hurt do so directly after a storm.
Please be safe.
Never, ever, ever drive into water you can't see the bottom of. It's a *lot* easier to get washed away in a car than you think. The water may only seem a few inches deep, but the road could be washed out under there.
Also, your tires are full of air, so they are going to try to float. They won't float *well*, but they'll manage just enough to lose traction. Then you get swept into deeper water, the car sinks, you can't open the door because of the water pressure, it fills up because the door seal isn't airtight, and you drown. Don't risk it.

Anyways if you have the money I urge you to donate to Ibraheem Hadi, a Palestinian who contacted me and whom I promised to highlight in relation to this comic:

I'm writing again to bring attention to the GFM campaign of @nourfamily1989, a mother of five in Gaza.
Since the last update, the situation for Nour and her family has gotten a lot worse. The area they've been seeking refuge in has been subject to intense bombing, and they've had to flee again in the middle of the night, with no idea where to go or what awaits them.
The despair Nour is describing is heartbreaking:
We see death every day, every minute, and every second??? We can no longer endure all this suffering, and my children are no longer children. Rather, they have become adults. After all this suffering, they have not taken any of their rights. Rather, they have lost their lowest rights. They have to bear what no grown-up person could bear. How long will all this torment and destruction that we live in?? Every day we move from place to place and we do not know where to go and where to go. There is no safe place for us. Every place is targeted and there is no safety. Please help my children from this bitter torment. Please save us from this destruction. There is no home. There is no future for my children. All their dreams are shattered.
Nour has repeatedly said on her blog that she hates having to ask for help, but that, for the sake of her children, she no longer has a choice.
Let's make sure her pleas now don't go unanswered.
You can make a big difference to the family even with a small donation. If you can't donate, then please help by sharing.

Over the course of a week, we've been able to raise a little over $5,000. Let's aim to reach the next $5,000 milestone as soon as possible, so that if the Rafah crossing reopens in the near future, the family will have the funds necessary to evacuate.
Currently: $14,240 / $20,000
Total GFM goal: $90,000
Last night, Nour posted a new update:
Every day we are displaced, every day we are evacuated from one place to another. How long will this situation last?? 💔 We are living in the most difficult times. I, my children, and my family are taken out of a place every day in preparation for bombing, bulldozing, and destruction. I am writing to you while my heart is crying over what is happening to us: no clean water, no clean food, no stability, no security.
They're in an extremely dangerous and uncertain situation right now, and to make matters worse, Nour has told me there's a chance they'll soon be forced to go to an area with no internet access.
It's important that we now do what we can to keep the campaign moving. If you're able, please donate; if not, then help by sharing.

Trapped Family in Gaza Appeals for Help to Survive
A Plea for Help from Gaza: A Family Seeking Safety
Hello, I am Samar Shamiya, married to Hashem Al-Shawish (@hashemsh92) (@hashemsh11). I have a child born in the war, his name is Omar. He is 6 months old.
We live in the midst of the ongoing hellish war in Gaza, trapped between walls of fear and despair.
Hello everyone, I hope you take a minute to read our story. I’m Hashem Al-S… Hashim Friend needs your support for Help my family survive an
We struggle daily to survive in an environment filled with threats and dangers.
We are originally from the north of the Gaza Strip, but at the beginning of the war we were displaced several times without anything. Our house was completely destroyed and we are now homeless.
We urgently appeal for your moral and financial assistance to cover the necessary costs for escaping to a safe environment, where we can build a better future for our children and ensure our family's safety.
We are in desperate need of your support. Any donation, no matter how small, can help save our lives. Thank you for your attention and support during these harsh times.
