a lot of people have really fast-paced lectures or times where they don’t know the right way to take notes, so i hope this guide can help you find a way that’s both effective and easy for you :D

write out your title

i know this is super obvious, but if you have a title like “the process of insomnia explained through the eyes of a doctor”, that’s obviously going to take up like 5 minutes of your time writing it out. shorten it down to something like “insomnia explained by a doctor”.

note-taking styles

you can do your notes using the cornell system, or a freestyle one you like (i don’t know too many methods, sorry). use bullet points and PARAPHRASE. paraphrasing is so, so important because schools are so strict about plagiarism. i’m not sure if your teacher cares if you copy on your notes or not, but just do it in case. you may use your notes later for a project and not realize that you’re copying something on accident. 

anyways, back to the point :”) use bullet points and replace words that take up a lot of time like “and” with “+” (plus symbol) and “because” with “bc”. keep sentences short. if you don’t understand something, don’t write it down. look it up and put it in words you can understand. 

highlighting

oh my god i see so many people just highlighting their entire page of notes like reALly sOn. it’s like they’re trying to convert their page into a yellow safety jacket or something smh. highlight only the crucial things, such as vocab or key ideas. 

keeping important info

put a star or a bright color next to important details. don’t put important details in the middle of a bunch of sentences so that you can’t see it. skip a line, and then put it right there - in the middle so you can see it clearly. 

paragraphs

do NOT put paragraphs of information in your notes. trust me, it’s not going to be good. that kind of defeats the purpose of notes since they’re NOTES, not ESSAYS. keep sentences short. plus, studying paragraphs for a couple of hours makes you lose focus.

bullet journaling has rlly been taking off lately, so i decided to make a smol guide for those who’d like to start one but don’t know how. i hope you enjoy :)

you see people with these perfect, schedule-layout bullet journals all over the internet and think that your bullet journal has to look like that too, right? well, it actually doesn’t. a lot of people get the impression that a bullet journal has to be a planning system, but it doesn’t! it can be a diary with daily plans, a place where you can list your favorite things, or anything. as long as it helps keep you on task and works for you. 

don’t be afraid to mess up. it’s your bullet journal, so you do you. if you don’t like it, cover it up with a piece of paper. experiment to see what works for you. now let’s get started :”) 

materials

all you’ll need are some colorful pens // markers, a black pen, and a white pen to fix your mistakes. you don’t need all those fancy supplies the other bullet journalers have when you’re first starting off. 

title page

start with a title page. it could just be a page saying “this bullet journal belongs to __”, or you could put the year on it. 

monthly layout

a lot of people put a monthly layout for some reason? i just find that i can look at it and keep my dates on track. some people make their layouts a few pages long while some put it all on one page. it’s honestly up to you. or, you can just skip the layout :)

goals

put a list of goal within the beginning pages of your bujo. this will make it so that it’s one of your top priorities and what you are out to accomplish. write things you would like to improve as well.

monthly pages

start each month out with a separate page that has the month’s name on it. you can customize it in any way you’d like. some people like adding an additional calendar on it and a theme. 

daily to-do

you see almost everyone in the bullet journaling community having a layout for each day with their to-do lists. well, you can sure as heck do one too. i like to keep it simple and just include the date + day of the week and divide up the page for each day
